While you won't catch me on any of these sites this is the future. I don't blame you guyz for not wanting to use it as it is a rather daunting and time-consuming task but think of what will happen in the future. If we want to go online all we have to do is sit in a special chair and the chip implanted in our brain will transfer our mind into the internet. Making the entire interent a 3D world much like our world that we can fly around visiting various online shops. It'll happen one day.
Absolutely. I created a fake cube from the movie 'Cube 2 : Hypercube' Each room had six doors on each side (with ladders to get to them), when you went through a door it would take you to another room but if you went back through the same door it took you to a completely different room. lol. that was simple really but hard enough in itself.
My entry 'The Three Trials of King Armilo' is actually gonna be 5 puzzles/challenges. One to get in the temple, three trials and then one to get out. I've just started but so far so good. I'm gonna use Vanilla HL too but i'm gonna use alot of custom content and there is already too many entities to work with lol
My map is gonna be called 'The Three Trials of King Armilo' and i'm gonna be more open with this one that previous comps cause i wanna provide ideas cause this is a hard subject to map for. Prepare for the screenies!!!
Yeah, lets see some cool content hey guyz. This is my second comp on a row now, I only just entered the Snarkpit minicomp and now this one. You guyz like to keep us on our toes!!!
Puzzles huh?? Lets see what mind boggling mayhem i can cause this time around. Wmhahaha

i read a science fiction story about a boy who bought a 'make your own sun' kit. His sun grew as he fed materials to it inside a special glass chamber. Then it became a strange oval shape and stopped growing, so he tried to feed it more things like bricks and metal. It didn't change, then one day it began to shink and then it imploded and became a 'letterbox' black hole. it then crushed the chamber and grew to consume the entire galaxy. so i think if a boy can destroy the earth, can scientists do any different???
Mostly pieced together on and off over the last month while I worked on Half-Life: Static Friction. This is only my third Source map so I am really looking for feedback so I can maybe start a full CS or DE version. Please, all critisism is welcome, and I will not care what you say as long as it is CONSTRUCTIVE!!! Thanks to all!!
lol CS online was, bleh, they have to create a new engine. If they upgrade source to a new out-of-date version then Valve will be Counter-Struck!!
Speaking of which, that was so stupid i didn't even need sound to have a chuckle. And seriously all that mountain dew he drank must give him god mode cause im sure he should have died ages ago!!! lol
No no no. I MEAN i am NOT going to use it for creating ANY terrain, only for the shapes. Not because it does both but because I am so used to Gensurf i am not finding it any easier (or harder) to use. I WILL still use it to create those different shapes.
Dang nab it Penguin!! You know what I mean, creating terrain for HL2 and HL1...why cant we just call them displacement terrains for both, huh? Otherwise what do i call it when i make a terrain for HL1???
All right, i tested it and while l liked the creation of the complex shapes, ie slopes and hollow spheres, i didn't like it for creating displacements for both engines. I will keep it though if i want any tricky shapes but ill still use gensurf.
lol, try a whole can of baked beans with a few spoons of chilli sauce, now that will cause a stinkbomb!!! Nice though, but comes with a whole lotta gas!!
I've tried a semi-rare steak and I didn't like it. It was too moist and squishy. I like my steak dry with tomato sauce and slightly tender, usually seasoned with some pepper and sometimes a tiny sprinkle of nutmeg.
rare, yuk. I prefer mine very well done. And what's wrong with onions, if you cook the steak with the onions you get much more flavor out of your meat. I know this as i worked as kitchenhand with an international chef for a while and he showed an interest in teaching me many things...
I just had about 9 different types of breakfast cerial including fruit rings, sultana bran, processed bran, cornflakes, rice pops, mixed oats, weetbix, nutrigrain and these wierd cocoa teddy shaped things. I still don't know if I like it but i really dont care that early in the morning.
I personally think that is the most revolting piece of so-called 'humor' i have ever seen. Darn it, that last screen just makes me cringe it is so bad...
I had dog food called 'braised steak and onions from a can' At least it tasted okay, i then washed it down with old stoney's ginger beer and half a kilo of mixed lollies 1/2 of my daily intake of CANDY!!!! mmm...candy...
I've tried and it was no use. Servers are limited to 15 bots because the game has to think for all those bots at the same time so it's to reduce computer stress. I just bought ETQW and I really like it, puts a futuristic theme of the old battlefield 2.
P.S. I still suck at flying, if the enemy gunships don't take me out then that pine tree usually does with it's 'needles of death'!!!
using a water texture is a good idea BUT the fact that the engine has to render whats on the other side of 5+ transparent animating water textures means a mighty big lag for most half-decent computers as it is constantly having to re-render because the texture is changing as water textures move
Lol!! Maybe we are all paranoid and should keep our theories to ourselves unless we have hard evidence and not create stupid threads that is trying to clutch at straws for a decent discussion... and with that i leave this thread...
Using a water texture causes alot of lag, you'd be better off makeing a solid colour using the same technique. If you use spirit, fog is a client side effect so you may get away with using a trigger_inout if it's a multiplayer map otherwise you can turn fog on and off.
Lol!! You're still tring to flog this program!!! While I will admit it's good for Source, I still think Gensurf is better because it has a shearing tool. This will attempt to save brushes by turning trianges on the same plane into one big triangle.
The problem is that consoles have their own OS or at least a modified one which means that a game on a PC will have to be recoded to work on a console. It is possible like UT3 have done, created a tool to compile maps on the PC for the PS3 version but you can't use that map on a PC anymore. Also, the console version of the game has to be able to import custom content and the console has to be able to load it. I don't know about the Xbox but the PS3 does have this ability but HL doesn't load custom content!
Nvidea is also getting a small amount of support from Microsoft too so I would recommend a Nvidea. And you can upgrade some laptops, it depends. I bought an Asus and it has the capabilities to upgrade the Hard-Drive and Ram. Mind you, with Hard-Drives, you are much better off buying a large external drive and installing your data on that. You save yourself a few hundred bucks when buying a new computer, you can easily transfer all your files easily from one computer to another with little fuss, as long as you plug it into a USB2 port you don't suffer much from speed slowdowns and last of all you provide a good place to create a ghost or virtual copy of your operating system to save your computer in the event of unfortunate circumstances.
This is true but to prevent overheating I lower the maximum processor power to about 75% and fps can only match your monitor's refresh rate. Mine refreshes 60 times a second which means I can have a maximum of 60fps.
Well, if it is like that then it would be a sandbox style but that would mean you would wanna go straight from point A to point B. Unless it's like Spiderman 3 where you have things to find but that would sound stupid for this game. (I nearly found everything on Spiderman, until my dumbass brother erased the saved games)
They say Prototype will be similar in the movement and layout to Assasins Creed, hey, the guy almost looks like him!!!
No don't get a quad core at all. The problem is that it requires alot of threading when using 4 processors and alot of old games simply can't handle and/or coodinate that amount of threading.
My new computer really rocks. I have: Brand: Asus - Laptop 2.6 Ghtz Dual Core 3Gb Ram (You need at least 1Gb) 250 Gb Hdd (I don't know the speed) + 100 GB External Nvidea Me 9500 Ge 512mb dedictated graphics card (try to get dedicated) Widescreen 1200x800 Monitor + Keypad (why I don't know...)
With this I can run CSS perfectly at absolute maximum graphics level with no lag and averaging 35 fps
Apparrently it's meant to be really fast-paced but the outlook is sceptical. Some say the game itself is really unique and clever but lacks in the delivery and is very linear in it's gameflow
Lol, I must have made about a hundred maps that were 'cool ideas' then they were half finished and then they looked like 'mud pies made with real mud'. Finally though, with the nobal strength of a few guys, I am actually getting off my ass and pulling out a BIG project.
Alternatively, flatten the object sideways, so it looks like a square pancake standing up. Then select all the faces on one side and set to world or to face, whichever, and check "treat as one" and fit. Do the same on the other side and then return the object to it's normal size.
Almost daily, mapping consumes a large portion of my time before and after work and doing 40+ hours a week. Like Luke however, I think of great ideas and then lose patience with them, it's a drag but at least I get practice in.
There is really no point to making HL1 look like HL2, why would you want to anyway. I will admit I have used a few HL2 things in our new mod HL:SF BUT I have limited it to using static props and sprite effects as these are the easiest to reproduce and use as I can limit how each is used.
I'm am going to be really brave and say that everyone who said something in this very burnt thread was right in their own way, if only everyone could see that
Yeah, that was a real pain as i lost alot of data.
1. The mod uses Spirit 1.5 alpha 4 2. Headcrabs are coded to jump off the headcrabs, there was a tutorial on the VERC but like you guys have said it is down. It was fine just a few weeks ago.
I saved all the HL1 coding related tutorials from VERC if anyone wants them.
@Muzz, will send you the tutorial and the models but i have found a recent bug with it so be warned, will tell you more when i send it.
As of the last 6 months, a small group of HL enthusiasts have been working on our new mod named "Half-Life: Static Friction". I am the coder so I have made a little trailer to show off what you can expect in our mod but I won't tell you the storyline, because that is not my department and it's not ready yet, but I can say it will be a major addition to the Half-Life storyline.
