Ye olde thread.

It's not illegal to open or modify the models/sounds in any way shape or form. Independent redistribution without proper copyright notification and permission is.

Ok first off don't doublepost. Use edit, I don't care if it doesn't show as a new post, it's still the last in the thread =

Check your picture links, aye, some were broken.

I'd say work on refining the existing maps instead of making a lot of them. Get rid of the useless stuff on the intro screen too, its very cluttered.
WTF men there are no trees in my mod at this time, you should see where you post !
He was making a remark on epoly counts, using Trapt's map as an example as it has lots of high polygon trees.

cl_drawhud, r_drawviewmodel 0, crosshair 0.

r_drawvgui 0 works too but it hides console so you can't see what you type anymore, etc.

The spec crosshair stays if you're in specmode I think, just start it as a player.

They're not playing, but they have logged into the network.

Sunday or Thursday I'll jack a box and get my router setup.

I still don't get the point of Hammachi and steam-avoidance aside from the fact it fucked my internet for abit. Pirates? Oh well, sucks for you. Somehow I don't feel sorry. Don't want to upgrade to Steam and get bug fixes, the latest engine and much more? Sucks for you. Steam internet is fine for me. None of that 'bandwith hog, etc' shit about it. It plays just like WON but officially.

That Hammachi thing so fucked up my internet. It decided to overwrite my internet connection data with it's fake LAN data. I'm not too comfortable with the idea of someone browsing and looking at any files on my computer anyways. The principle of how it works though is rather interesting. I just don't want people connected to my computer who have that much access.

Why can't we just host an MP server anyways and base it out of IRC? That's easier...

@Seventh: VIS is notorious for long compile times, regardless of optimization or not. Surface Tension for Source takes near a day and a half. It's open, yes, but there are no BSP splits to calculate save for what the engine does - Everything's a func_detail. I'd attribute this to the fact the area is large and outdoors, and granted it is different as it's Source, but you get the idea. VIS is just a bitch.

It's not too complex as it seems, habboi ;]

Essentially make your own version of the level without deviating from the floorplan. You must include an RPG trap and place your own weapons.

Actually, they offer tours there. I think there's half-day and full day ones. No joke.

Was reading about it in the paper a while ago, apparently this was just someone participating on one of said tours and they just built the site around it. I think they've admitted it was a hoax a while back too.

Still, very interesting, and some nice photograps. Wouldn't mind taking a visit there.

Check to make sure you're using the respective prop types - physics for things like barrels, static for things like big bridge parts. If one doesn't work try another.

As for glass, it has to be a single-sided (ie 5 sides NODRAW 1 side glass) entity, and as slackiller said, cannot be skewed.

OS - WXPHome, SP2
AV - Symantec Corporate (Har, 'borrowed' the CD from work)
Firewall - Windows or nothing. Router has one integrated, kind of. hax~
Spyware - Manually remove it myself
Registry - Manually clean it, RegScrub XP
Processes - Windows Taskman and manually figuring out what shit does
Start - MSConfig
Browser - Firefox 1.0.6

Needless things will change once I get my DVD Drive and reformat...Notably the absence of a firewall and operating system.

in What Made You a Mapper? Post #131426
I initially had a mac.

And I used REDit on the school computers. Things were shit but I kept at it. When I got a PC in May (04), I picked up HL - Not that I'd never played it before, but I finally got around to getting my own copy and playing the PC version - Needless to say I got involved in the editing scene fairly quickly. Picked up some skills with teh hammre, but didn't bother getting loads of maps polished and released - Instead I regarded it as prep for HL2. And I worked...and worked...and worked...and worked.

HL2 arrived, jumped on with Source from the get-go. Felt a lot better for everyone to be on a level playing field in terms of new stuff. Released Petrol and Raincheck, hopped on and off of C13 and joined BMS. And that brings us to toooooooday...

Planning on getting a professional LD job at some point in the future. So far, things are looking quite good for that to happen. Now to find Source developers...

You can actually do a lot with HL1 decompilers if you know how...

Not to encourage everyone to go and decompile shit, but eh.

BTW this is a source map? I agree, not horribly impressive, but if you really want to lock down on decompiling there's a way to hard-wire it into the BSP code. Look for the VMEX site and read up on it.

Yeah, welcome to the mapping world...

Just think of it this way - Your map was popular enough with someone at least, that they decompiled it and tried to pass it off as their own. Sucks they won't remove it and are asshats about it, but that's what you get in the CS/S community most of the time.

Good luck with any further endeavors...
