in scriptedseqeunce - barney skips Post #42811
I've got scripted sequence set up where Barney draws his gun - this action triggers the shootgun animation straight after it, yet when it happens, he draws the gun and his hands snap back to his sides before lifting them up again jerkily and then shooting. How do I make it into one motion?

Just set up a scripted_sequence for the Scientist where you want him to teleport to, and set the "move" field to "instantanious".

in Using sentances not in the list? Post #42602
I just read through that and it doesnt sound how I meant it.... lol lets try again.

There are some sound files in the HL pak file - I've been listening to them and have found a few new ones I want to use. Problem is they arent listed in the sentances.txt file, so I cant trigger them using scripted_sentance. How do I do it?

How do I get someone to use a sentance in the pak file that is not included in the sentances.txt list? Certain sounds that maybe arent in the final game? I'm sure some of them are in the game, but still arent listed... such as "Ah, Freeman." said by a scientist.

(Missed a bit...)

It's basically the cost of ONE game a year to use the service. No way is that a downside to Xbox Live ;)

About the cost for Xbox Live - ?34 to have a full year of unlimited online play coupled with the headset, voice in every game, loads of free downloadable content to update your games, static friends list and username throughout the whole gaming community no matter what game you play, alerts through your mobile/email/messenger/xbox live for news, updates and game invites, plus all the free tournaments and competitions Microsoft run through the service - it's a damn good price.

in Solid-entity error yet no apparent prob? Post #42574
I've just been trying to create a door with glass in my map, and when I check my map for errors, I get this:

"Solid entity (func_wall) is empty. This solid-entity contains no solids. Fixing the error deletes the entity."

So I click go-to error, and the views change as if it's showing me where it is (as usual) but nothing is highlighted. I tried using the "fix" button (it said the entity would be deleted) but nothing got removed. I got rid of my door with glass, and the map was just how it was before I started, and i still get the error. What's it all about?

Yep. PS2 seems to be quantity over quality - mainly because a large percentage of the software are actually PS1 games. Backwards compatibility is good, but not when you have the whole Sony fanbase using it as an excuse to say they have more games.

Was gonna stay out of this thread till I saw the typical noobish reply:

"What good games does Xbox have that you cannot get on the PS2 or the computer?"

First off, the only games on PS2/PC that you can get on Xbox are all below average games compared to the rest of the Xbox library. That's what you get with multiplatform ports. That and the fact that they are always made for PS2 then ported to better systems, forcing everyone to be dragged down by the lowest-common-denominator-syndrome. In other words, butt-ugly games with less playability than Half Life 2 on a GBA.

That's all I'm gonna say, plenty of great Xbox games have been mentioned here already by people who have enough brains to know that Sony need to get their heads out of their backsides and quit brainwashing their target audience into thinking PS2 is the only way to go. It's underpowered, most of the games are old hat, the only game worth buying one for now is San Andreas - which will be on Xbox and PC mere months after anyway. PS2 fanboys should get a grip on reality and realise that their system is YEARS old and very behind the technology and features of this gen's systems. I cant believe there are people that actually think PS2 online is a good service. Obviously never touched a PC or seen Xbox Live in action.

What about if I maybe add in a few new sounds and textures, how would I go about it then?

Say I have a map - and I want to give it to a friend to try out on his computer - does he just need the .bsp file in his valve/maps folder? What about the other files that are in there too for the map, like the *.lin *.map *.max *.p0 *.p1 *.prt *.rmx etc....?

in VIS Crashes Hammer.... Post #42321
Sorry, that should read "I just deleted all of my lights"

Anyway, muppet - I'm no noob. I've been making maps for ages now, and I know when my program is doing nothing. I even left it for a whole half hour and it was still sat there. That's impossible for a map this size - it's not even 5 full rooms, and they're all small compared to most of the stuff I've done before.

It's not that - I just all of my lights and it still crashes at vis.

I cant post my log either, Hammer and the compile window completely freeze untill i choose end the process, then it just closes.

in VIS Crashes Hammer.... Post #42304
I cant compile my latest map properly to test, because when Hammer starts up vis.exe during compile, it just hangs. It works fine when I choose "no" or "fast" for "Run VIS", but normal just doesnt seem to work. It compiles fine for every other map, too - there are zero errors in the map, and it's really tiny so far. What could be the problem??

in Simple Animation Loop Scripting Question Post #41313
I want a scientist to sit against a wall using the cowering_in_corner animation. I set up a trigger_once to start the scripted_sequence which told my scientist to do this - yet I just get him sat there with yellow dots flying all around him, and he stands up after doing the animation once. I want him to stay on the floor looping the same animation forever. Any ideas?

I thought kill target was to stop you being able to trigger the sequence again? I'll give it a try anyway.

in Scripted Sequence Doesnt Work Right Post #41288
I want a scripted sequence where a Scientist is shown running from something, and then suddenly dies from being shot.

Before I even get to the rest of it, I'm just trying to make the guy dead as a practice run (my first time with scripted_sequence). Basically I have a scientist stood in a room, with a trigger set for the player to walk over, which triggers the scripted_sequence that shows the dieforward1 animation on the scientist. It works great! ......Untill he suddenly appears stood back up again and walking around :zonked:

How do I keep him dead? I've ticked the "leave corpse" flag, but he still doesnt stay there.

Just read that link - sounds great! I have a question though. If I do something to my map using Spirit, would the people playing the map need to have the Spirit mod on their machine or not?

in Start With HUD/HEV Suit? Post #41064
How do I have my player in a single player map start the game with the HEV suit already on? I dont want to have to listen to the logon each time, so having the player stood on the suit in the starting point isnt a good option, and the short logon is still annoying.

Thanks! Before you go - Can you explain to me how exactly I'm meant to carry on using Worldcraft to make and play my own maps/mods when I have Steam? There's no "custom game" item in the HL menu anymore, and all the HL files get cached into Steams own filetypes... how are you supposed to edit/make new files/folders to use mods/maps with!?

in Missing Fonts.wad File?!?! Post #40786
I cant run any mods! I've got the Half Life generation ultimate edition with Counter Strike and Opposing Force - I've installed Half Life, everything works, but when I try to play any mod, it loads up and just before the mod actually plays, an error comes up saying "cant open valve/fonts.wad" - I searched my entire HD for this file and it's just not there. It's not even on the CD, and reinstalling didnt make it appear either.

What's up?!
