I think 'punishment' in all its forms is a very human thing to do. That being said, as my religious teachers so often put it "God is above us humans". The only proper way of dealing with people who have done wrong in a humane, rather than human, fashion, would be rehabilitation and reform.Well, here is the view from a religious standpoint: God does not want to you suffer in eternity, but would rather rehabilitate and reform you through Christ. However, God leaves you with the choice - and just like refusing a surgery that will save your life, there are consequences for your choice.

It's not hate, it's pity. I pity people who put their faith in the supernatural. It provides false hope to those are too weak to think for themselves. I can't deny that our knowledge of the universe isn't good enough to totally discount the existence of a "god", but the difference is, christians put blind faith into the existence of such a being without any consideration. Most christians try to justify their beliefs by telling you how it saves people from addictions or depression or other similar situations. The truth is, hope, no matter how false, is still very powerful - it's a placebo.
If she actually knew anything about her own faith she would know that Jesus had explicitly said: "Do not put the Lord your God to the test." (Matthew 4:7) So yes, she is outright foolish for blindly thinking that God would have healed her son when it can easily be done through normal medical means. Of course, if the surgery somehow went wrong (unlikely) then I say she is free to pray for healing - and I have seen some profound events where people should have died but ended up living - but that's no reason to refuse an appendectomy.
Oh yeah, Trapt you guys do have some pretty hardcore churches down there (e.g. Hillsong) but from what I've seen, none of them practice the same ignorant theology as this woman. Same way here. We have some pretty "fundamentalist" churches here, but none that I know of would recommend not having surgery for something that is certain to kill you otherwise. I think it just a handful of weird denominations that do this stuff. Like those churches that handle venomous snakes. We think they're weird here too.

XP won't be a deadbeat OS for a long time, simply because it has such a large userbase. There will be no choice but to support XP for years to come, at risk of eliminating a very large portion of the market.

Plus, most so-called environmentally friendly solutions really aren't. For example, wind power is horribly expensive, destroys land and affects weather patters far more than CO2 does (large wind farms can reduce wind speeds by as much as 5-10MPH). It takes thousands of wind turbines to replace one coal plant. That's a lot of land destroyed. And it takes tens of thousands of wind turbines to replace a single nuclear plant. Despite the irrational fear of nuclear power, it actually has the least environmental impact of any form of power generation. And it is fairly cheap as well.
Also, hybrid cars won't do you any good. They won't save you any money once you figure in the higher price and the higher maintenance cost, such as replacing the battery pack. Not to mention mining the lithium for those batteries does far more environmental damage than the CO2 eliminated.
So the sooner everyone stops buying into this global warming scam, the sooner we can improve our economies by focusing on real problems and actually fix real environmental problems that we haven't even been paying attention to because of this warming scam.

Excessive use of ellipses is not as bad as people who never punctuate their posts if you know what I mean right it is really annoying and hard to read and really just ends up giving you a headache so really it is good to make use of at least some form of punctuation and better to overuse it than not use it all.

Are you using hint brushes? Properly used, they can drastically cut down on the time hl_vis takes.
I have an enormous map that had the same problem, so I just set vis to fast and it compiles fine and runs with reasonable performance. Of course, I'm gonna go back and do some vis optimization in hope of allowing a full vis compile. In addition, I did have to rescale some lightmaps to make the rad compile complete in a reasonable timeframe.
But will it blend compile?
Have to agree with m0p. I have a pair of 80 gig drives that are going on 4 years, and run pretty much 24/7. Still work without a hitch. By the time most SSD's are that old and see heavy use, they will see a much higher failure rate, or at least a significant degradation in performance.
The player is a bit fat compared to that scaleFreeman can be a bit chubby. I think 48 units is the minimum a player can crawl through. In real life of course, a person of normal dimensions could squeeze though a lot smaller.
Turn all the things like the trusses into func_walls. That way vis doesn't choke and die over all the complex brushwork.
I usually go 8 or 12 units for walls. 16 is rather thick.
Basically, one map unit is approximately one US inch (2.3cm). So 60 units would be about 5 feet (a kid's height) or ~1.6 meters if you're looking at metric.

The CPU is a bit outdated, but the graphics card is absolute crap. If anything, replace the card. And if you can afford it, get a newer CPU.

I noticed a lot of externally hosted maps have broken links. I was thinking that since we have cleaned up the top maps section, why not set up some way to deal with these maps. For example, have something like a "Lost Maps" section or a way to tag maps that have broken links. And that way, if someone happens to have a copy of one of the said maps and can provide hosting, they could restore the link to that map.
I'm not sure how feasible this would be, but it is disappointing to find what looks like a great map - only to find that the download link is broken.

At home I get a measly 213kpbs down/213 up. When I was staying in the college dorms I got ~25,000kpbs down/~1500 up. How I miss that.

I believe that you remain facing in the same direction as you do when you activate the trigger_changelevel. So for example, if you enter the trigger_changelevel facing west, the next map will load with you also facing west. This allows for a seamless transition between maps.
