Add some tiny shrubs on the grassy parts, maybe some decals of graffiti, and perhaps some pipes and external building units?

Noticed you don't have a tutorial award yet, you could fix that if you wish.

We have tutorials for various XSI stuff, but with kHed and max around, things are different, and you can never have too much information out there. Someone else with max knowledge might stumble into our site and find it enlightening.

Comparatively we all use different tools and some tools get less attention than others. Even though we don't have an tut for everyone of the tools, we could at least cover the major ones.

And besides I'll be looking forward to following it myself when I get to the point where I can do source stuff again.

Maybe you should write a tutorial about it (a better, more illustrated one than the one above), I'm curious to know how you did it since I need to make some source models for something down the road. :D

I'm not partial to using blender or kHed for my source porting anyway.

Its early, and its not perfect of course. Take it with a grain of salt though. The fact that they got that far is awesome. I'd like to remain optimistic and say that that they could fudge a lot of the collisions with collision meshes, particles could be done in the traditional sense, and animation although its not the best. Even if all of the characters are meshes, or anything that is animated is driven by mesh skin deformation, its still a considerable feat.

Again, I'm optimistic.

The Unlimited Detail engine, now deemed "Euclideon" engine is back and massive jizz worthy.

Its 4 months old but I didn't realize he came back after a year of undercover development on his science-fiction-become-reality tiered graphics engine.

I was always a bit of a skeptic about this project, though always hoping it was a real thing. The ONLY discernible proof is in the LONG interview video where the reporter picks up the controller and fucking plays it himself.

Look at the videos on youtube.

This means there isn't a next generation of graphics, there is a next era of graphics. The era of real objects and people being topographically scanned into the computer. I seriously wonder what this means for games, artists, programmers, etc.

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan of how the rock smoothly lays into the tile, unless the tile is temporary. Given clues from the doors and the structures, it looks like the tile is supposed to be there. Perhaps make tiled paths and only the main part of the clearings tiled, leaving the rest stone or dirt, or whatever you have in mind. Of course, this entire comment could be annulled if its temporary.

It kinda needs to be big since its a Gary's Mod map.

I do like the theme. Feels like an abandoned underground hanger bay. Perfect for mischievous experiments.

Zeeba, if you're getting many different blues, there are a few work arounds.

I usually put my pure blue on a layer above. Paint with the pixel brush where the blue is, and then paint the texture underneath that. If the texture is ABOVE the blue, you can get slight off-blue valued pixels that will show up on the Index.

If there are a few blues on the index anyway like 3 or 4, cancel the conversion to 8bit and collapse your layers, select all, and copy the image. Convert to 8bit and open the palette. Change the last color to blue no matter what color is already there and the duplicate blues to black or white or whatever. Click OK. Paste the copied image. The pasted image will look proper because when you paste stuff in PS into a color index image, the colors will reorganize to match as closely as possible. This will fix any off-blue values, and the colors that may have messed up from playing with the palette.

The best way to extract a mask is to use the first method with the above layer of blue and pixel brush.

Day Planner
Ukelele
New Phone
MP3 Player
Cookies and candies for fucking days

Not going to complain that I didn't get nicer things because I like practical simple things. I don't need a smart phone, I don't care much for facebook anyway. I also won't badger anyone about the unfortunate either. Simply put, I didn't work in a soup kitchen to earn any badgering rights.

Glad to see everyone got presents and no coal :3

Overblock the outer parts of your map. Fill in the negative spaces with brushes and use large blocks to generalize the outer profiles of your map. I do it all of the time. I haven't too many problems with leaks since thickening out parts of maps.

Tricky, its not like you can post it to the problem maps vault either... :/

I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I remember starting PX the summer before the tenth grade for me, that was... 2003-ish at least.

The point of me showing all this stuff is not for bragging or anything, but to show that you absolutely have to have the fundamentals. There are things you can only learn by working on other people's projects, and some only on your own. Also, ideas are like seeds. Not all of them are good, but nurture them, critically analyze their implications, and how do they work with others, and more importantly, how will they grow.

Nothing awesome comes free, easy, or quickly.

MAY I SUGGEST just making a small map pack. A mission for the player to do and tell a short story about a scientist in the world of Black Mesa. You see these a lot because everything is there and the world is diverse and already developed.

Honestly I was experimenting with readable computer screens. Pretty interesting stuff with messages and all. I can pass you what a template map so you can use that. If you so choose.

Still working hard on smoothing out the land. I also did some pretty hardcore mining and found some good ores. Don't nick my shit.

I hope to turn it into a town with a bunch of useful things like farms, food, a small scale resource depot, potion shop, enchanting tables, some well organized mines, and places to build homes.

From what I know, it advanced the functionality of Multiplayer, like admin teleporting, protections maybe, commands, stuff like that. I'm not sure though. Google it.

I'm searching for a good seed.

I found one that was nothing but median sized islands. need to figure out what it was. I think that'd be fun since we'd all claim our own mini continents.

I also would love to see a collaborative effort to build a town, complete with all of the resources one would have in their home like a Foundry, collective storage, collective mine, etc. It's lonely playing next to people, I think we should play together more collaboratively. We might build something worth showing on youtube.

EDIT: the seed for the medium sized island world is blobbystu (or the number 836618496) and here's a map of what it looks like.

Female scientist looks like a dude with boobs. Accent the curves of her body more, then have her coat buttoned up so its tighter around her form, giving her a considerably more feminine silhouette. She would likely never wear her badge on her nipple, and her tits are indeed too big.
