Maybe a way to filter inactive members' maps depending on personal preference? I don't really mind. I only look when I'm bored and I don't expect anything particularly decent.

Make sure the bitmaps you're importing aren't paletted already, that might confuse it (no GIFs!).

I recommend importing BMPs into Wally.

in auto matic func_train HELP! Post #35599
Uhm, why exactly have you put the train in another brush?

Once I deleted the func_breakable around it and triggered the train, it worked fine. The train won't start automatically.

NB: If you name entities "game_playerspawn" they are triggered when you start the map. Up-to-date versions of HL only. See the Entity Guide for more info.

You also need to fix the leaks. None of your walls meet up properly. If you don't know what a leak is, consult the Glossary and Hammer's helpfile.

I'm guessing you've got SDRAM. I know you don't wanna hear this, but you're not really gonna be able to play it without a much faster CPU, which means a new motherboard (almost definitely) and new RAM. While the minimum specs are fairly low, I doubt it'd even look as good as HL1 on those.

in clipping help Post #35580
This is because Internet Explorer shows the reply-post box in a fixed-width font. The posts themselves are shown in a variable-width ('proportionally spaced') font.

Fixed width font:
Every character, symbol, and space occupies the exact same width.

Proportionally spaced font:
A character's width is defined by the amount of width needed to display that particular character.

http://www.chris.com/ascii/font-lesson.html

I think that'll have to go on the new forum readme.

Okay, I will post work on our new post content recommendation here, a kinda readme for people new to the forums.

Comments (constructive; no spam) welcome.

This will be based on this page (but less aggressive :) ).

Points so far other than those mentioned on the above page:
  • You can't post text-based diagrams on the forums (using lines and underscores to try and show people things).
  • Check the tutorials
  • Check the Entity Guide before asking entity questions (it's a great resource!)

in how do you get a map on here HELP QUICK! Post #35567
but how do you get all of the files into one file and ready to download?, or can you put more than one file into it when you submit?
Get WinZip and read its manual.

Zoner's tools? Search the forums for info, or just look at the Links page for the URL to the tools themselves.
What's the diff between WinZip and the compression built into XP? That's what I use.
None technically (although WinZip 9 now includes a stonger compressing algorithm that's proprietary (only their software supports it).

RARs seem better when I last compared them.

Note that if you put a space between characters, they act as if they had asterisk wildcards between, i.e.:

Enter "lght" and you will only get textures with that exact 'word' in.
Enter "l ght" and you will get anything with "lght", "light", "lxfght", "l00000000000000000000000ght", whatever.
