in Custom door 'move sound' Post #24031
If you want it when it closes, you'll have to replace one of the original door-moving sounds I think. You can't tell HL to use a particular sound, only pick one from its hard-coded list.

noclip- fly through walls, etc
impulse 101- all weapons & ammo
impulse 102- spawns giblets & blood
impulse 103- shows monster stats while looking at monster
impulse 104- list global entities
impulse 105- silent player
impulse 106- model /sprite stats, while looking at target
impulse 107- shows texture name, while looking at object
impulse 195- AI mode on
impulse 203- delete monster you're aiming at

developer 1 - developer mode on
developer 2 - verbose developer mode - very useful
developer 0 - developer mode off

The last bit depends on everyone else. Think how proud you were of your first maps (and how bad they almost certainly were on reflection), and be kind to people who're only just getting started. If you flame them and tell them how awful their maps are in a blaze of aggressive criticism, no-one'll come here at all.

I'd like to thank jaardsi and ZombieLoffe (I think it's you?) who review maps so well in the vault with pros followed by cons in a nice tactful structure :)

This is all correct with the exception of the space before "map". It should just be +map NOT + map.

I don't believe they're pointfiles, as they're not copied by Hammer at the end of compiling, but they're temporary files that are, well, worthless once it's compiled.

do I need to extract that file and place it in both my new (Steam) and my old HL folders to make it work for previewing in Hammer/playing finalized bsp in Steam?
Yes.
Does it matter in which order I add my custom tex in materials.txt in that list of tex/sound attributes
I doubt it; never tried myself though.
What if the sound I want is NOT on the list of possible footstep sounds?
Hm, I'm not sure you can do anything about that, it's probably coded. I'd use 'dirt' if you had to.
Does WHAT have examples WHERE already?
Think he means does materials.txt have examples to show the usage, which it does indeed.

but its VERY visible in the real map
No it's not, it'll flicker between grass and paper. You cannot have two faces on an identical plane without HL and/or your graphics card getting confused.

I personally would use the scale tool (Ctrl+M) to make it smaller than the grid, as pepper advised.

Have you tried running the map in HL itself? Also, get Zoner's Half-Life Tools for compiling to replace the old q*.exe tools here.

Also:
6 faces
1536 square feet [221184.00 square inches]
Six faces? How's that possible? Is the cube you've presumably put the info_player_start hollow? Or is it solid? If it's still solid, select it (in Hammer), and press Ctrl+H.
