in Half-Life 1 Still Popular? Post #208765
In my humblest of opinions, Half-Life 2 is way harder to map for. You have to think about more stuff. I don't really have anything against props, even though I suck at using them, but I still find HL mapping more enjoyable.

some people seem to be forgetting that you CAN still map shittily using brushes in source if you really want to. nobody's stopping you.

"omg props ruin the game" is the lamest excuse ever. props are just pieces of complex brushwork. it takes less time aligning them then it would to make it from scratch.

so stfu, you hl1'ers.
i'm a faggy fag fag and i like shagging fags with flags and fag faggity fag.

"fag fag omg lol" fag i'm gay.

so stfu cuz im a fag

I like playing HL online better.

I don't see any reason to switch to source.

This image really emphasizes the need for good lighting, in my opinion. There's only a very minor difference between the 2 shots, yet the right one looks 10 times better (in my opinion).

Nice articles, Cpt. P. An interesting read.

Everyday here in south Africa we have huge bush fires which plummet COLUMNS of Co2 into the atmosphere, and you can be assured this is much more than let off by cars.
Yes, I'm sure one forest fire outputs more carbon dioxide than the collective outlet of gas from 600+ million cars and the world's entire industry.

Honestly, wake up - we are affecting the environment and have been since the industrial revolution - and it's going way too fast to be anything natural.

I've seen it. Al Gore is surprisingly convincing, really does make you worry about global warming and all. I found it enjoyable, even though all that crap in the middle about how his son almost died or whatever, or that he lost the election, was totally uncalled for. I don't give a shit about Al Gore's personal issues, I paid (well, I didn't) to watch a movie about global warming.

As for energy consuming, the most consuming thing I do personally is use the computer. These things take loads of energy, but I damn straight ain't cutting back unless the damn world is exploding! Anyhow, I pretty much only ride collectively (like, y'know, buses and trains) and uh, stuff. Pretty annoying that the current (conservative! boo!) govt. has decided to put more money into making motorways instead of improving the collective traffic - that'd save lots on the environment.

I think the most efficient thing anyone can do is become vegetarian - breeding animals just to eat their flesh is extremely energy consuming. And we all know cow farts are hazardous to the atmosphere (and stuff). But I'm just too lazy to adapt to a new life style. Story of my life.

Edit: Well, actually, the most energy efficient thing anyone could do would be to commit suicide, but that's rather tragic.

Lighting is one of the most important (if not the most) aspects of how good a map looks, in my opinion. If you have great lighting, the texturing and general brushwork doesn't really have to be very special - it'll look amazing anyway.

Look at, for instance, the Nightwatch levels in terms of lighting. It's hardly just "a bunch of texlights spread evenly across a map".

I suck at lighting, myself, but I'm training.

Find the red key to open the red door!

IE, block the player's path with a door, and he must find a button/keycard/lever to open it.

Well, if you say games run good, it's unlikely to be a graphics issue... more likely something with the video playback. Try different videos - all the same result?
Try them in different media players (winamp, media player classic...) - still?
Codecs?

That's all I can think of.

Why? Something tells me you're paying a lot of dough for this extra bag of crap that no one needs.
I'd definitely recommend building it yourself. I dunno, it might just be me, but when stores offer to build your comp, they'll throw in the cheapest brand of every hardware item you need and call it super-extra-mega. It might differ between stores, indeed, but still. Hm. If you build it yourself, you can tailor each specific item to whatever you want - I'd recommend top-notch makers for each hardware thingie.

Anyway, don't get Alienware. DELL owns Alienware, and we all know how bad DELL is.
