in Model texture ideas Post #246986
I've retextured some models (badly), and was wondering whether anybody has any suggestions on how to make them better?

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2600/modelretexturestc3.jpg

They're supposed to be horror-ish, but I've got practically no skills in Paintshop Pro, so the grunt is just normal-ish, and the garg is orange. Demons are not usually bright orange, except for the ones that were teased at school.

Yesterday my brother showed me this video(probably old), and by the end of it I was in tears laughing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNLDLyeepVs

This gave me the idea to ask the question - "what are everyones favourite videos on youtube?"

Could be funny, might make you go "WOW!", etc.

I just realised that I never commented on your map CT - sorry about that.
Overall, it was very good. All I could find wrong with it was the fact that some of the the mechanisms were a bit too big - it gave the impression that I was four feet tall.

I don't want to add more mechanisms, just make them nicer/easier to see because I've already submitted the map. So I made the books less blocky, and made the room more detailed. The water trough is also shorter, so it can be seen fully in camera mode. I still feel that it's kind of unfair having so much time to refine the map, so I won't modify it anymore. Captain Terror, if you want to make the cameras toggleable, I've provided (crappy) textures for the buttons.

[edit] Potasis Invalid, I just saw your post, and tried it. It worked! Hooray!

I slowed down the water, and made the room a lot nicer to look at.

Has anybody else got any machines?
It's probably really unfair that I've had all of this time to refine mine.

I'm not using the latest fdg. I'll download it when I get home.
I tried having the water fill at a low speed, but it wouldn't fill at all if the speed was too low.
I thought of a different method today, and I've got a feeling that it will look much better, so I'll update the map soon.

They don't work with the 'E' button, but for some reason it's only with maps that I've made. I could download a map in RMF, and compile it, and they'd work. If I make an exact duplicate with Hammer, they won't. It just happened once for no apparent reason.
Anyway, about my entry. The way I made it fill the trough, the only way to slow the water down would be to have the upper face at an angle. The problem is that the slower you have it the more noticable this would be.
I'll try different methods though, and I'll see if I can improve it.

I would've done it with buttons but Hammer's screwed up for me. Buttons don't work, at all, unless you make it so that they trigger when you touch them. For all of my maps I have to work around that.
I was thinking of doing it with a panning camera, until I tried it. It would take a while to get right though. I might try it tommorow.

I timed the main timer with a stopwatch and that seemed to be all right, apart from when it goes out of sync (I still don't know why), so you probably mean the smaller timer
I'd read that the animated textures have ten frames per second, so I made use of that. It might be wrong though.

The one I made was just to test the idea before I put it in a map, but because I didn't know why it only targeted some of the entities (I didn't know about the limit to what you could put in a multimanager), I just abandoned the idea.
I'll try to finish it and upload it when I get the chance.

I know that you can make a digital clock using several func_wall_toggle's that make up each part of the number, and targeted in sequence. I tried that once, put way to many times into the multimanager, and then promptly forgot about it. I'm not sure how you can stop or start it, but it can be made to look very nice.

in Survey: Violence and videogames. Post #238457
Age:
between the age of 10 and 25

Number of children, and ages if you have any.
none

Country(and state/province if you wish) of residence.
Ireland(shudder)

Second, answer:

What type of videogames do you play, and approximately how many hours a week.
FPS's & Action games. roughly 25 hours a week.

Other hobbies, you can include occupation here if you wish.
Mapping.

Are you a violent person? In other words, are you aggressive or do you get in fights?
No.

Do you agree with the current ESRB rating system? Does it work?
I couldn't care less, If I see a game, I play it.
I suppose the ages for the games are a bit too high - everyone's kind of decensitised to violence now.

If you have, or if you will eventually have, children:

how do you feel about them playing videogames with violent themes?
I've never noticed any ill effects from playing games, so I'd let them play games.

At what age would you allow them to play T or M rated games?
Any age above 13.

How would you determine when they were allowed to play these games?
I would let them play a 18's rated game when they're 16, 16's games when they're 12, etc.

If you do not have children, do/did your parents/guardians ever monitor or regulate what games you played?
I wasn't allowed to play Goldeneye 007 for a while, and that's about it.

Were you not allow to play certain games until certain ages?
[see above]

And lastly, do you believe that in cases of teen violence the media should be held liable as an influence?
Yes.

Thanks fellas! If you don't want to answer, then don't. If you do, thanks again!

It could exist if you hald something spinning in a gravity free vacuum or something like that so that there was nowhere for the energy to go, but there are no environments like that, and it wouldn't create energy, so it would be completely pointless.

Alex, your idea reminded me of a perpetual motion machine which pours water onto a water wheel, and then the turning wheel drives a pump which brings the water up to fall on the water wheel.
This idea, however, wouldn't work because there wouldn't be enough power in falling water to turn the wheel, or at least not enough to turn a wheel which powers a generator. :combine:
