Info_landmark MUST be in the exact same spot on the grid in both maps.
INCORRECT. info_landmark is a reference point between the two maps and the player spawns in the new map in relation to the landmarks position. It doesn't have to be in the exact same coordinates...

That would just be a huge pain in the arse and your following maps start point would be off in a corner of the grid somewhere...

Looks like I'm pulling out as well.
1. Gets right to add a basement level
2. Gets requested 2nd extension
3. Pulls out with a week to go

You are the worst. Like, the definition of "worst." In the dictionary, "worst" just points to a picture of your face.

Basically what I'm saying is: "No worries, thanks for trying."

I've heard from a lot sources that you should start planning your map before even touching your computer.
That rests entirely on your style of working. I've very rarely worked from a plan when mapping. I tend to use photographs for inspiration if anything.

While western RPGs can be frustrating like that, I'd take them over JRPGs anyway. They have a far more irritating habit of... well... being shit.

Also, not spending stat points or stacking one trait is pretty damn foolish and frankly asking for trouble down the line. :P

This is probably more for the people who are more into their RPGs and such, maybe even tabletop games, but I just figured it would be interesting to see if you take on a particular role when gaming? For me, I now have three:

Urby (Urbanebula) aka. Me
Alignment - True Neutral

So, when playing titles from the Fallout or Elder Scrolls series, I typically try and play as myself the first time around. I try to be good as often as I can but for the most part I'm out to get as much money as possible, meaning I snatch up items of value or any cash that might be lying around, even if they are considered as "owned."

For the most part I tend to side with the most lawful entity. In Fallout New Vegas I signed up with the New California Republic and used their armour and weaponry for the most part, keeping my distance and gunning down anyone that threatened innocent life. In Skyrim, it was the Imperial Legion who I joined, though at the start of the game I wasn't overly keen as they DID try to execute me. However, I have no qualms about taking advantage of these groups either, stealing unguarded tech or weaponry for myself. As with Fallout, I keep a safe distance, using a bow and keeping to the shadows where possible.

Aluben (nebula backwards, you see?)
Alignment - Chaotic Evil

Usually my second play through is using an alter ego of sorts, who goes by the name Alubenabru or simply Aluben. Often a female character with jet black hair who favours Melee combat. In Skyrim she often wields a great-sword and heavier armour. In Fallout, a straight razor for getting up close and personal to her foes, also cannibalizing fallen friends and enemies.

Generally unpleasant, she seeks out other unpleasant people, but they are by no means her allies. A good example would be an assault on a prison in Fallout New Vegas. After the battle, one room was littered with corpses and occupied by a single unarmed doctor. Cannibalizing bodies in front of anyone, friend or foe is considered unnatural and doing so would have caused the doc to call the guards. As such, she slit his through and proceeded to devour the flesh of him, as well as the others lying dead in the room.

It's interesting how playing melee only, in a game filled with guns and bombs, made my playstyle so much more brutal. I had to make sure I got the first shot in, and when they were down I would keep wailing on my target until their head caved in.

Lord / Nord Casserole
Alignment - Chaotic Evil

Lord / Nord Casserole is the character I use in the series I upload to YouTube, such as Rimming the Sky (Skyrim) and Falling Out (Fallout). He is a different kind of Evil to Aluben. Generally pompous and self absorbed, he is mean and unpredictable. He generally sees other people as idiotic and a hindrance to his tasks. His only real friends in Skyrim are the Horkers (Elder Scrolls equivalent to a Walrus) that line the shores, referring to them as simply "My little Horker friends."

Largely led by greed, he takes on various tasks in search of gold and other riches, often switching sides DURING said tasks in order to get the best deal for himself. One such example, entering a mine recently taken over by a clan of bandits only to strip it of all the ore, then butchering the bandits to collect a reward.

As there is no sign of baby Urby at this point, and I know I will definitely not be working at the end of March, plus there is a four day weekend at the start of April.

SO...

Tuesday, 31st of March, Midnight GMT That is a pretty generous extension of 17 days. If you've got a job holding you back, quit. If you're at college, you can restart courses right?

I've said this before but I'm putting it in caps this time so you know I'm super serious.

Ahem. Seriously though. Go map. Or say "I'm out" in the thread.

The only thing I'm unsure about is controlling the animations in-game. I know you can use env_renders to toggle visibility of entities, however I don't know of a way to specifically start an animation.
Gonna play the Spirit of Half-Life card again. env_model has fields for active animations that play when the entity is triggered. :)

I've really seen the lobby as a sort of pre-level up to this point. The 0th level, if you get what I mean. A short introduction to what the rest will be about. The part where nobody tries to kill you. Were the story I assume you have written for the mod is started.
Generally speaking, a "Lobby" is just one room. This is where the minimal story is given to the player and is free of combat. The offices and warehouse beyond that are hostile.
where should i place my map?
Either upload it and send me a link via PM, or send the file directly to coffee@scotchandcoffee.co.uk

Still not sure why the lobby having gameplay is surprising... I definitely mentioned it weeks ago.

Atom, looks like an error I saw in the Core before when there was way too much going on at once. It came down to gib counts in the end. And yeah, it still uses lights.rad... Not sure why yours are commented out.

It's very possible to fix those. I've already done it in the Core. The invisible Bullsquid is a scripted sequence issue (mapper error, not code) , which has also been fixed.

All the original low def models have been copied to the base mod. Barney's view model weapons and the Opposing Force grunts as well. The only other custom models are the ones that came with the spirit mod or that other mappers are adding. That's it. The list is in the models folder really. The files being the list. :P

5. The Monastery - Painkiller
User posted image
I'll be honest. I prefer games to have a deep story and I'm not often pulled in by the endless kill arena style shooters. Painkiller kept me entertained throughout and one level that always stuck with me was The Monastery. This video is a perfect summary of the levels eery qualities from the music itself, to the whispering caves beneath the main building and the utterly horrifying bell chimes (check at 4:14 in the video... seriously) which you can hear grow louder and louder as you climb to the top of the tower to end the level.

4. DM-Morpheus - Unreal Tournament
User posted image
There have been remakes in Unreal Tournament 2004 and will likely be another in Unreal Tournament 4 (or whatever the new one is going to be called) but the original Unreal Tournament had the BEST version of DM-Morpheus and I sunk an embarrassing amount of hours into it in my youth. Playing on a LAN with just a friend and my brother in law, the low gravity skyscraper arena was the ideal map for Insta-Gib and never stopped being fun. I even fired it up recently in classic UT against some bots and while it was nowhere near as much fun as with real people the level still totally holds up.

3. Bounce - Half-Life
User posted image
I don't even need to include a screenshot of this one. You've all played it. This is another one that really comes back down to the old LAN network back in the day. This map was what drew me to sniping in games and it's a play style that has stuck with me through Team Fortress, Battlefield and the Unreal Tournament series. So many places to hide and yet, you can still dominate your foes if you find a good spot with access to more crossbow bolts.

2. Snowy Park DM - Medal of Honour : Allied Assault
User posted image
Yup, so this is another LAN favourite from my early teens. Once again just me, my brother in law and a mate, all sniping each other. This is different though. Snowy Park DM took place in the dead of night, the wind howling with distant war sounds echoing through the trees. Not only that, but aside from a few areas with lamps, the map is covered in fog and you can only see a few hundred metres in front of you. Genuinely tense and probably the only time I have cowered behind a rock, terrified to move IN A GAME.

1. Caribbean Catastrophe - Duke Nukem - Life's a Beach
User posted image
Ok so when I was a kid, Duke Nukem 3D was my absolute favourite game (and I am yet to forgive 3D Realms for the monumental fuck up and Gearbox for releasing the monumental fuck up). Every level of Duke Nukem 3D and most of it's expansions took place in massive city environments, all taking place at night (or in space). Duke Nukem - Life's a Beach was a Caribbean themed expansion which replaced all the enemy sprites and wa with holiday themes and changed the skybox to a clear blue sky.

The opening map named Caribbean Catastrophe, not dissimilar to the name of the first DN3D level Hollywood Holocaust, starts with you surfing onto the beach before fighting your way through a hotel with a fountain, a shark tank, a pool, a gift shop and a bar. Not to mention that you can access all the hotel rooms and the elevators all play terrible elevator music to boot.
Huh... I guess no level has really impressed me since the early 2000s... Get it together games industry!
