There's absolutely no difference from WON to Steam afaik. The .BMPs are not necessary for anything.

Tetsu0 is correct.

Once "nudging" is enabled, you can hold the SHIFT key and use the ARROW keys to move/duplicate a brush, but you can also use the mouse/SHIFT key to do the same thing ;)

Nudging is great too, because you can move individual verticies whilst using Vertex Manipulation :)

Here's an image borrowed from the mapping tips thread:

I have no experience using this sort of thing, nor trigger_changelevels, but that said I will hazard a guess:

The entity set up has to have global values so it works accross levels, I'm pretty sure. Beyone that I really have no Idea.

In the meantime I would recommend submitting a problem map for this. It may not be possible for this to work, but it can't hurt any :)

It's caused from havin too many wads--more than 8--assigned in hammer at once.

Does this fix your problem?

I added my wads to that, however I'm not sure if it's the issue or not.
Your not sure, I see... well are you still getting the "..FindTexture()..." error !? I guess that would be one way to be sure if that part of the problem was fixed or not ;)

Make sure your including the wadinclude switch under the CSG paramater. You can also try specifying the path if the "lives" somewhere other than your valve folder... If the path name has spaces, include the path in quotes.

For kicks you might try a brand new map from scratch--I'm reaching now :

If none of this works, try checking the chair-keyboard interface ;)

Try adding a "wad.txt" file to your valve hammer editormaps folder.

My wad.txt file:

s:half-lifevalvehalflife.wad
s:half-lifevalvexeno.wad
s:half-lifevalvedecals.wad
c:program filesvalve hammer editortextureszhlt.wad
c:program filesvalve hammer editortexturesdm_lars.wad

If I remove say the dm_lars.wad location, I'll get the same error you're getting. I think this is probably your problem.

My CLIP texture does't work
Um..could you elaborate on this? What exactly do you mean--it doesn't appear when you browse textures or what?

I've used clip texture since I can remember mapping, so excuse me If I don't take your word right away that just "doesn't work" :

If you're making it an entity, don't do that. The clip texture will work it's invislible magic as a plaing world brush, but will not block VIS, nor raise your wpolys.

Nutin' you can do about that I'm aware of ;)

You can use net_graph--type "net_graph 4" in the console, but it doesn't show wpolys nor epolys, only FPS and some other stuff...

K. A couple of things.

For Half-Life or CS or whatever, go to the steam launch window and right click over the game in question.

Click "Properties" and go to "launch options".

type: -dev <save>

Now when you try it again, it will show up in the game.

If you have a game like Sven Coop that doesn't launch from steam, you have to type--in console--every time:

developer 1 <enter>

and then "r_speeds 1 <enter> for it to work.

- you'll notice the difference between plain textured faces and those that use an extra (lightmap) layer.
Cap P: Would you mind elaborating on that one? "Lightmap" is a totally foreign term for me ;)

Also, I don't feel comfortable using fps as a benchmark for performance, becuase stuff that other people have told me runs at "4 fps" runs full or "72 fps" on my machine.

It seems everyone agrees +-1000 is good for wpolys...

How about epolys? Anyone...anyone... :P

wpolys: below 1000
epolys: no idea
fps: no idea

List your perception of what are acceptable r_speeds for MP maps.

Also, I've noticed for SP maps, for the heck of it, I'll run a map without VIS and watch the wpolys rise to unbelievable levels--as expected--, however my fps stays steady at 72.

So, am I correct in assuming for SP maps, you have much greater flexiblilty in terms of wpolys?

Anything relevant you want to add pertaining to r_speeds here.

in Source vs Halflife 1 Post #168532
[2 cents]

I think the biggest problem I have with Source over Goldsource is mostly the unrealistic expectations I had for it. It took so long for it to come out, and it's so huge compared to the original, I just thought it would be much more amazing than it is.

I can remember my first reaction to playing HL2 at a LAN party on a higher cost, VIP machine--so all the settings were turned up. My first thought was WT...F... I was totally blown away that it didn't seem very different at all from the original. High-res textures and a physics engine, and not much else imo.

Take into condsideration with these comments that my machine doesn't handle HL2 very well, so that's the primary reason I don't explore it further. So by no means have I given it a "fair chance", and I plan to check it out more when I get a new machine.

Hopefully by then it will be even better with updates and such, just as the Goldsource engine did...

I can get faster speeds connecting my mobile to my notebook--+20 KB/sec, but it's bursty.

I wouldn't care if broadband was $200/month...I'd find a way to pay it, because dialup is just completely ridiculous.

1. System Restore is not useful (is pointless)
2. System Restore uses hard drive space
Shame. Wasn't it you who just told me that HDD space is cheap? It doesn't even take up much space for multiple restores, and you can regulate how much space you use...

I could think of much worse things that would be uselessly taking up HDD space...

I disagree that also that it's completely useless. I've never used it for SP2, but I used it multiple times during my SP1 era.

If you accidentally delete important files that causes catastrophic changes to your system, what's wrong with using System Restore??

It's saved my butt a coulple of times, especially now that most systems don't come with a hard copy of windows, and you can't as easily do a clean install.

Yeah, totally untrue. I've been using 3.5 since November, and have never had a problem nor ever reverted back to 3.4.

As far as FGDs, I use the VERC-supplied FGD for Half-Life, and this one for cs.
