OK let invent a good racing game.

Each team has a bus full of hooligans and the point is to jump from bus to bus and fight/sabotage each other. First to the goal wins.

GO!!!

well if we're talking mapped out satellite photos, than yeah I guess it's different than space-game stuff, cuz space is easy to make, but ground on earth is hard because it needs to be defined.

Ok... I crunched some numbers and this is what I got.

To rival it in source it would require 14,138.9 maps
To rival it in goldsource it would require 61,111.1 maps

LETS BEAT THE RECORD! :walter:

Even if ever map in the vault was a source map, we've only covered about 2056.25 miles of that!

you can only use a func_wall_toggle if you're using spirit and can parent the entities together, assuming you're helicopter or transport vehicle is a func_train thats moving.

and no, clip brushes will not work for this, that's why I suggested the null brush. works similarly but has properties solid enough for entities.

Dammit you guys...

Just add a null brush clipping into the lower half of the player's body, but not cutting into the surrounding geometry. To get him out as in Opposing Force, use a teleport.

Oh ... I remember now!

Since gravity bends time, getting away from the sun and planets and other sources of gravity could speed up time. Based on Gravity Well theory, spending 1 month local time in space could be 4 months on Earth, just as an example. I maked pixture.

"Normalized" as in even squares as they expand further from the source. The tiles near the source and the ones further away are the same, just have a different ratio to scale.

A time bubble around a shuttle would be expanded in reverse. It is a known fact that Mass has the ability to hold gravity (mass stronger than gravity?). If you drop your space trousers and take an interstellar dookie, even that crap has a gravitational field because it has some kind of mass.
An object with a negative amount of mass would oppose gravity in respect to the laws of physics. So a bubble of negative mass emitted from a ship would expand the time around the ship locally. Who knows how that is done though.

What seems to be popular in theory lately is IF/THEN logic.

If there is such a thing as biological matter, then there is the possibility of biological energy. Stuff like that.

If you can fold matter, you can fold energy. Thus folding space which makes a wormhole. Honestly wormholes are tough based on that. Just master gravity, because time is faster than light, but Gravity is stronger than time. Gravity bends time. You bend time, you bend space on the 4th dimension rather than limiting the aspect to 3D space. Creating a time bubble that pulls a ship through space which creates a sort of 'hyperspace' that is not on the same time as everything in regular space. Plotting a course would be safe, since things wouldn't move or move nearly enough to make a difference. This would be retardedly fast as well and could possibly allow short travel to a variety of galaxies. However, bending time does not mean you can travel to the future or past, you just simply slow down or speed it up locally... feck i lost my train of thought...

If you want to free up some rules for a compo, just make another "Map from layout" compo. That was surprisingly successful as well. Or bring back the "map from base" sort of compo. I wish I was around to do that one.

Here's an idea that may spice things us.

A mini compo where you make 1 map only using absolutely nothing except the default provided assets. Pure Vanilla. Objective: Make the most authentic looking/playing map as if Valve made it themselves.

6D is dead.

By some miracle it may come back but I can't be fucking around right now. However, I like the story that developed out of it and would make a nice singleplayer mode, which may be reserved for a day I have a firm grip on the unity engine.

The team members have gotten a little something out of it though. I got my modeling texturing chops up to the point I want to take it professionally, as well as Daubster's coding skills as well have been practiced.

but yeah its dead. I got a killer portfolio out of it, how about you?

As far as the small project noted in my latest journal, its not big, its tiny, I'm really far on it in only 2 weeks and I can take care of it on my own and will work on it on my own time and release it when I feel like it. I'll post a few things to show progress, but again, as it goes when it goes. 6D was fucked from the start with the hype.

The reason this small project will succeed is because I can't take it seriously. The law of gaming is "If you love it, it will fail." I suggest going to SMWcentral.net and have some fun and relax.

Peace. Close. Thread.

The Rooms compilation is the best thing to have ever happened in a long while. I say lets get a nice new compo going, an easy one to promote mapping and fun rather than thinking and strenuous mapping hours and tweaking.

Fear unwrapping no longer!

Ever since blender developed smart unwrapping tools, the open source software has been on top with that aspect, until the technology and scripts were exported out. There are several plugins for the wide variety of 3D packages out there, most cost money, some are children of Blender's dynamic LSCM Unwrap.

I have one for 3DS max, but it doesn't work as clean as I hoped, and it still requires some man-handling to fit stuff, or prevent it from crashing. Exporting to Blender is weird because launching the whole program for that was sucking up my ram, and then I have to navigate through Blender's interface. Wah.

The best unwrap solution I've found was presented to me by a friend, he shown me the Roadkill UV Unwrap Tool!
User posted image
It has plugins, but it is stupendously good as its standalone program. A light-weight tool that is ergonomic, simple, and is better than the other plugins. Why? Because it took a few steps above the smart unwrap from Blender by improving upon it and making things automatically organize, reorganize, and reorient as you unwrap you're imported OBJ file.

Best part, its fuckin free.

TRY IT!

I found a really friggin nice new trick to painting textures. If you like texturing at all in 3D software besides Hammer, research Camera Map Per Pixel shaders. They allow you to project an image onto your mesh. Once finished, you bake the textures with an unwrap. What so cool about this? Its the same method a lot of model painting programs use to project your image to your mesh, but instead of crappy tools, you have full comfort of your Photoshop as well as your desired 3D software.

How does this pertain to 6D? It doesn't. But when I do get back to working on it, models will look nicer. As far as 6D is going... it isn't. No developements since last I remember.

Actually, teaching is a balance between hard and soft.

Like encourage and promote that they are learning, and praise that they made a cube and compiled it. That's better than what you were before that.

Then encourage development, increased standards, challenges, and meeting expectations. But never discourage, that just makes you look like a douche-bag.

That seems rather oxy-moronic to have a rank or approval system required for the newcomer forums...

Although I could see a dozen forums starting up that would be simple like:

Newb: Where's the ketchup?

But since many are getting into Source and there is marginally less source tutorials, I think it'd be appropriate.
