Yeah that's true, in most cases I miss them for a while and then I see the little orange envelope while some page is half-loaded.

What it truly needs is <blink>. Also <font color="red" size="300%">. And UPPERCASE.

I just thought of this, perhaps using an average of map ratings received by any given user could be used as a reputation meter of sorts. Or at least as another item in their profile stats, as "average mapping quality".

Map a map within a map.
We need to go deeper.
I like it. It can be done.

Look in Tools > Options > 3D views

Change the value of "Reverse selection order" (near the bottom of the tab) and see if that fixes your problem.

Don't be so harsh crollo. The first time I ever tried to map I had no idea HOW, somehow got my hands on Hammer (2.2? don't remember) but then I had no idea how to convert that into a playable map (I got to the point of renaming map.rmf to map.bsp). Although I was on dialup back then so internet access was scarce at best.

That said, I'm not sure I understand the question. Most likely due to English not being this user's first language.

Why is it that rookie forum posters all over the internet - especially those to whom English is a new thing - write all in lowercase and barely use any punctuation? I never, ever, did such a thing. Has humanity degraded global perceptions of etiquette that much?

Read my post again when you're fully awake then. You'll notice I said there already are multi-level elevator example maps in the Vault. If, after looking at those you're still unhappy, I may make one for you. But I can't guarantee it'll be any different.

What kind of user controlled? As in, with a func_traincontrols?

Maybe I better download that and take a look.

Edit: How exactly is it user controlled if there's neither buttons nor func_traincontrols?

I'd use a func_train, trigger_changetargets and buttons. An elevator in a map I've been working on recently (not yet finished, will upload soon) runs between 3 levels on that setup and works perfectly.

I'm sure there are a couple of elevator example maps out there in the vault.

Some forums have a daily "rep quota" you can give out to others - i.e you can give up to 10 points a day. Other than that, I'm not sure how else would I limit it.

1. I'm quite sure you can't do that without tinkering with the source code and recompiling into your own mod.

2. What do you mean glow a door? Don't you mean blow? In that case, func_breakable is the easy way out, though there can be more elaborate setups.

3. Same as 1.

4. Perhaps you've set something wrong in the player_equip?

5. func_wall_toggle

Good business for airlines. They fly 8 feet shorter and sell tickets for the same price as before. Improved margins, this should happen more often.

I have my main drive (250GB) divided in two partitions: 40GB in C: (Windows and whatever) and the remaining 200GB D: for everything else. Last time around, C: got filled up pretty quick. I later formatted it and right now it's got 11GB free.

As for Steam, I didn't format D: when I reinstalled windows in C:, so I reinstalled it to the same directory and since all files were already there I didn't need to download anything again.

Imageshack most certainly works without an account, you just can't copy and paste the direct link anymore. Open the image and copy the URL from your address bar instead.
And while you smart asses do this, unlucky folks like myself only see every image redirected to this - thus never seeing anything:

Then let's make a more useful suggestion. This is related to the Map Vault: Make my visits to my own maps not add to the views count. It only requires an if() statement.

Something also practical would be to add an extra database field for maps, to store the last time its author/uploader visited it. Why? Simple: To display in the user's control panel that new comments were made in maps after the last time we went to look. That would have the bonus side effect of allowing for just one generic private message to be sent when someone comments on a map, until you visit. That helps to avoid inbox clogging. Private message inboxes in TWHL are small in capacity compared to other forums :)

It would also be useful to receive an email when someone sent you a private message, but I think I have already mentioned this somewhere else.

Edit: I know, I know. Wait for TWHL4. I hope we see these features implemented there :)

1) Make games uncrackable by applying an even more draconian DRM measures. Everybody knows that what them damn' pirateers need is demotivation.
2) Inflate prices enough to compensate for all those copies of the game that were pirated instead of legally paid for - twice.
3) Force players to log in to our service every time they play, to ensure only legitimate customers get to use the product.

Oh you were talking about reducing piracy? Then I guess it's been all said. I could only disagree with striker in the following:

There's no way you can obfuscate a game so hard it's impossible to crack. At least two decades of such attempts have proven it completely ineffective - everything gets cracked eventually, and the only one who suffers from that is the "legitimate gamer" who paid for an official copy of the game. The solution to this is to just leave software as it was originally programmed, without copy restrictions. Piraters will still pirate anyway, but at least you're saving legitimate customers off a big hassle. Plus, it's less work if you don't code all that. Everyone wins.

If only the industry were able to realise that...

If over a decade of network-capable games and gaming systems have taught us, is that depending exclusively on any kind of online service instead of offering generic connectivity (LAN or direct IPX) is a stupid idea.

Think of it:
WON - gone.
GameSpy - gone.
Microsoft Gaming Zone - does it even exist anymore?

And who knows how many others I don't remember right now. It can happen to ANYONE. And we all know well that once they start going down they won't remember to set up the servers to "remove all DRM from Steam games". Even if they do, unless they do this way in advance, I highly doubt they'll keep the servers online enough time for ALL players to get online. There should be an alternative method.

What happens when you want to play one of these games in multiplayer mode, but can't because they don't offer LAN or direct IPX options, relying solely on online services? Once said services are gone, you end up completely unable to play multiplayer again. Reverse-engineering the game and setting up a custom ad-hoc server probably isn't as convenient as it sounds.

Corporations tend to be dumb. That said, I must side with the commenters in that page. If you download a pirate copy of a game and connect it to its official servers, then you are even dumber. It's like stealing a car then heading off straight to a police department or its insurance company's hq then start hitting the horn like mad.

Whenever I, eh... acquire a game of dubious legality, I do everything in my power to make sure it doesn't call home, exactly so this shit doesn't happen. If I want to test it, fine, but I'm not going to parade around their offices waving my not-too-legal copy at them.

That said, I also am reluctant to spend money in various systems (Steam, Skype or others) having read accounts of perfectly legal users that were permanently blocked from access with no apparent valid reason.

Depending on how you look at it, it's sort of a gray area sometimes.
