(either smooshed into the clipping block thats inbetween the secrete, the outside, and the arcade.. adding up to 4 lights) (or just outside the dance floor.. where pink meets a white, a green, and a yellow light)

either way, the map runs with lights even though theres that error, so i was just going to leave it, as of so far (about 15 minutes of test time) it hasn't really caused any in game problems

...

gawd i love that compiolator 64bit.. it will compile lights with nearly just about any vis error running on top of them

mour or less, i'm backing the opinion that maybe rated R movies won't get made as often.. at least (and now this is on a specifics level) not in austrailia..

I mean.. hell.. with hope.. that MAY even catch on.. and your 'million dollar' industry.. will turn into a 'poor bois fantasy' of seeing movies at his local dollar theater.. simply becuase the general public has grown out of visual media.. and moved on to a mour simpler time.. of actually doing sh*T

and no.. not particularly am I, a fan of video games in general at all..

they annoy me to the most bitter end..

I'm ok with this new law.. Movies are boring, and lame.. and Unimportant.

In fact the only actual effect this has on me what-so-ever is my baby millia might have a few less posters sold.. but that's nearly meaningless in the scale of it..

..and Austrailians don't need to be oogling over perfection anyways.

So I tried to use a game_player_equip but couldn't get it to work though I only tried for a minute. Any help? I know you know how to use them Rim...
think of it as a multimanager.. but instead of names of entities in the advanced section (whatever its called... the data input strings) place actual NAMES of entities..

where as the number following the weapon_entity would be how many that player picked up, and the number following the ammo_entity would be literally how much ammo that player started with..

so in example..
I want the player to spawn with an ar rifle.. about half full of ammo.. and 4 ar grenades..

the sequence is:
game_player_equipt > properties > smartedit

then in the data input.. add:
inputs represented as..
key // value

weapon_9mmAR // 1
ammo_9mmbox // 150
ammo_9mmAR // 4


*ALSO, if you use normal hammer editor 'check for problems' it will explain to you that 'game_player_equipt' has unused values.. just ignore that as to clicking either 'fix' button will result in erasing all the smartedit input and leaving your game_player_equipt completely blank except for a name and target* (aka, the unused values it thinks its refering too is all the custom values you added to the game_equipt)

OKAY.. now for the real reason I posted here..

The TP_Beerfort map, when changed with a vote map.. broke the server into thinking it was set for teamplay.. and was like that through the entire next map..

not that i have any room to judge you for spamming... or even have any concern in the manner.. hell i may even choose to humor you.

fact of the matter is though.. I was mapping for at least 3 years before I discovered twhl... I was reading their tutorials on mapping, and following a few of the threads in secretly WELL before posting at twhl maybe for a few months..

and even NOW when I post I do it under the proper pretext that it will be a well appreciated, and fairly clever-ish-ly(literally the 'proper spelling' suggestion offered by opera browser) deserving of web space thread.

but hey.. THERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS

Same thing happened to me..

It has a faulty res... It thinks were downloading all of the file, but its only partial file of whatever is causing it..

I just downloaded off the site link at twhl and i was able to join fine without locking up..

it's only when they download from the server is it locking up for me.

conclusion = res file.

How do I compile in Windows7

is there some kind of secrete?!

I've been attempting to compile A map all day.. all.. friggen... day..

So far, in every map (except the most basic box without sky textures or many entities) keeps locking up during vis..

everytime with vis..

the one map.. originally would compile all the way through until it explained to me there was a max_clipnode error in it..

but after I've solved that THAT one won't even make it past vis.
my problem blunt.

Everytime I go to compile a map, it (valve hammer editor 3.5/7/whatever) will lock up.. ultimately leading to me having to force crashing (or it just eventually crashing the cpu) during vis.. and only vis.. and always vis

I've attempted with zoners 3.4 / 5.1(if thats the newest one), silencers 3.1 tools... AND fresh install compiling tools

What, am I doing wrong here.. PLLLLEEEEAESE?

MAX_PORTALS_ON_LEAF is 256 in Halflife, so this problem is quite rare and usually a side effect of having a damaged brush in the map.

How the heck do I use HINTs/How does VIS work
There are some decent tutorials. First, there is the excellent CounterMap tutorial for HL/CS.
Second, there is Geoffrey DeWan's old tutorial on the subject. Although for Q2, the concepts are identical. It is worth reading the whole article, and it is also worth noting that the SKIP support in Halflife that was added to ZHLT is not as robust.
Third, Another old tutorial, also for quake2, is also in the gamedesign.net archives.
MAX_MAP_CLIPNODES
There isn't any way to add more nodes or clipnodes to the bsp's (its already maxed out). However, at least clipnodes can be reduced with a bit of work.

When the maps are compiled all the 3d 'space' a player can get to is broken up into convex regions just like brushes are required to be, alot of them are extremely small or too small for a player, and if you put a CLIP brush over them they don't become clipnodes at all (well really there are still a few intersecting the brush on its surfaces, but the brush can be excluding dozens or hundreds of them at a time).

If the world has had a 'box' placed around it to prevent leaks, its probably causing several thousand (if not 10000+) extraneous nodes and clipnodes to be caused, not only wasting resources but will cause vis to work a lot harder than it needs to. An example map is available, demonstrating how it is possible to reduce the clipnodes in a map. Without the clip brush in place, the map requires over a hundred more clipnodes to define the player-accessable space.

I always make about 3-4 base textures and make them rainbow colour.. :D

its so aweso/err.. a headache

..

yeah all the gears move (in seemingly appropriate manner too) except 2 of them are off set slightly.. its obvious)

also theres a max_map_clipnodes that i'm about to deal with now that i've gotten my beauty slumber

Had to get screenshots in 3d flat, because I don't have any textures on it yet, the top left one is in 3d textured and it all kind of looks like a big mess.

This is my entry for rooms, as far as i believe it

I think i'm going to make a deathmatch version of it too.. im thinking, hide exactly 1 of every gun, spawn with full ammo for everything / a 357
