I'm still dwelling on this water issue. But i hear me on some logic:

The Func_Shine uses a sprite as its graphic ingame. Sprites can be animated up to a certain number of frames. High as I have gone was 39. Either way, it can be animated. The shine doesn't play the animation, it sticks on the first frame, but what can be done if it did play the animation?

I think I could manage something out of it if I had this feature available. Since I will likely be using it often to compensate for the lack of shader water.

Also made a fun new smiley.

On a scheduling note: I want a demo in 2 months, and the whole thing done by the end of the year. Hopefully, but still, no promises since I do not know how well things will go. Like I said before, all this is still built on theory.

I may need some favors from people soon, given there are some voice-acting stuffs to be done. Please note there are spoilers in the lines. On the side, I'm planning everything out, such as mapping and exposition to the story. Running all that by some friends on my end and getting criticism on all that. I got good comment from Joe,
Story works perfectly with the game mechanics, like that of Deus Ex.
...k

I guess they like it. Other criticism had mention of Halo, given there are so many Plot holes in a good story, 6D doesn't make those same mistakes. Also, everything has a history and a adherence that most games don't and is told in a way that isn't "In your face" and yet understandable, like that of HL1 and HL2.

Another satisfying grab on the scenario is that the game starts at the beginning as much as it can. Most games stick you in the middle to immerge the player immediately into the action. 6D doesn't do that but it makes that up with a mild blend of tension that gets you thinking about the setting and why things are, which get answered, and of course that leads to more cause and effect.

On a more interesting note, I recorded more time lapse, but I'm not finished with it yet. When I started costuming, I wasted a load of time since I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make it look. Plus the poly count is borderlining my budget. (3000) In turn, it looks even more confusing on the video since I add and delete stuff for like 20 minutes. I'm on a good roll now in texturing it.

Stay Faithful.

Either way the thread isn't going to get edited and why fuss over something broken. My I argued with my roomy and he convinced me that im better than fancy visual gimmicks. I still have spirit, I still have a slew of tools at my disposal, but I see the 6D water to be nothing more than a really nice texture and the shine effect.

I just FUCKED UP SO RETARDEDLY BAD!!!

By sharing my "Treasure"-like find, I may have cost me the extra boost in reputation for 6D that could help me get a fuckin job at a company down the line. I may have already sacrificed thousands of dollars to share it with you guys and not such as a thanks from anyone. To my misfortune, I didn't know where the code was, I thought I had to contact the creator for it, and I didn't know it was included in the mod folder. No one said anything, no one fucking tried the mod to tell me it was worth the trouble. Chickfist proves that anyone can easily implement it. To put it simple:

The better reputation on this mod, the better the chance I get hired.

Pablo Picasso once said:
Poor artist copy, Great artists steal.
This will hurt the rep of the mod if it looks like I "Copied" this code. In reality, I did but given its open source, it was easy. I would have paid a good amount of money for the code if it was open source. But its free and now I opened Pandora's Box. That's what you fucking get for being a nice guy. As far as its use in 6D, I'll give full credit to the creator.

I need help from the admins to erase all mention of Mechmod and the links to the site where its located. As far as Flat-Life goes, I don't care if he uses it, in fact 6D is open source after final release. The difference is that 6D is a huge part of my portfolio. This need to echo as hard and loud as it can because if its get famous, Valve may pick up on it and thats a job I would like.

God I feel so fuckin stupid!

edit: Whats the use, Karma better get on her knees and blow me over this. Admins don't do many favors around here. :(

i wish, but i was just gonna use some clever spritework that didn't work out. Particle system isn't as sophisticated as it should be.

I wish i could get some dynamic water :(

any way. the jump beta is here.

After trying it out, im very skeptical of keeping it. Yeah it opens up the mapping a bit, but it may be abused some way and all that. given its a puzzle game, leaving it out would leave in more puzzle for moving the player upward. Though how many puzzles can there be, and stacking stuff could get boring. I still think it would be nifty, but maaaaaaaaaybe not for 6D.

Can't copyright ideas, so the idea of the high-jump module can be used for something else if needed.

I just pm'd him. Like usual, the little things are adding up. Concerned about getting the necessary stuff done absolutely first for the demo. To prove there is a solid foundation for the project.

I'm going to prototype this in spirit and release an example map. That will be a good indication, tho the version I'll make won't be too smooth compared to a coded one. It'll get the point across.

how does that sound?

ok. If you're crouching and you jump, its a normal one. (or it should be)Kinda like when you're crouch-walking and jump, its not a long jump.

Minor blips of fall damage isn't going to harm the player all that much. Not with the systems involved with upgrades and all that.

The jump itself would be high but not damagingly high. Like 270 units or so. Enough to jump a clearly unaccessable area. This doesn't effect the normal longjump either. Since the normal jump is altered so you can easily jump at least 70 units high, the lonjump has a bit more boost to it. Or at least i hope so.

Also, i won't add it if it isn't fun.

What do you think?

heh, time to pitch in :)

As we are all very familiar, the long jump boosts your ability to leap large gaps. In description, its power assisted movement.

The Thesis: whether or not to add a high-jump addition to the Longjump module. A longjump while standing idle in place would perform the High-Jump, which would be a considerable height gain in comparison to normal jumping ability.

The Reason: open up the mapping a bit more to its possibilities. I believe this would have a better and more versitile use than that of a wall jump and would likely be easier to code in.

The Problem: Potentially not necessary, but i think it is. The only other problem is the increase in work for Daubster. He is the one man army behind the code on this project and has feated some incredible achievements so far.

Discuss it.

Wait no longer, time lapse is done.

Time Lapse Part 1 (69 mb)
Mirror at Maprookie

A few odd difficulties but its a start. Its 5 minutes because in 3 minutes it moves so fast you can tell twf is going on the whole time. Its uncut except for the time speed up.

There will be a few more parts as the model develops. Next chapter is costuming and textures, then Animations.

Also, my first attempt at this, i recorded a very lovely Max crash. :pirate:

Where can I get camtasia?

I got editing stuff (necessary for school) where I can grab the end and squish it into a decided time. No lame cutting and posterization.

And yeah, I'll do both eventually. But Modelling is faster and more intriguing I think.

Speaking of the devil.

Glizard max file for those with max that want to play with it.

EDIT: oh yeah, the alien dude is only mildly furry. their homeworld is mostly arctic and the prime living areas has the climate of Canada. Minus the Canada. So they have a skin and spotty layers hair ontop of their arms and such. Like how Humans have fuzz in various parts, only we've evolved far beyond the caveman days.

Just speculation from the group on my end of the project. I think everyone likes the design so far to some extent. So I don't think I'll change it for any reason other than believability, which isn't easy with anything alien.

YAY MAOR EDITING: I found a simple screen recorder here

Its not as amazing as camtasia, but it'll do the job. Just like the free version Fraps for in-game movies.
