compilator wasnt working at first. I didnt try it after i downloaded the super tools, I just got the 32 bit version, edited the batch file and it worked. I probably would have worked if i set the ZHLT directory to where the supertools were but I didn't want to mess with it. I've been using the compilator almost since its release.

That's what i like to hear!
I don't really use all my ram either.

but i can't wait until i get Win 7 and my DDR3 ram...
Then i'm gonna need another motherboard because usb 3.0 is coming soon.
It's not even running half full speed, and it's 2x as fast as 2.0 already. :-P

I believe i can start working on the gameplay later tonight. As i should have the majority of the brushwork completed, and the level sealed in, leak free.
then from there its: lighting - extras - optimization.
18 days SHOULD be enough :)

I didnt mess with the batch file at all.
all i did was change the super compile tools to the zoners tools.
So i finally just downloaded the 32 bit super tools. Now it's all working fine.

It's not running -full vis, i hope that's allright.

I just started the compile on this dreadful laptop:

Intel Celeron M 1.4 GHz @ 1.40GHZ
504 ?? Mb ram

(I really shouldnt be bashing this lappy. It runs perfectly. Clean, fresh new install of XP. The only 3rd party programs on here are AVG, Chrome, and The compile tools. It's just slow by todays standards)

But, as promised here are your updates:

CSG - Done
BSP - Done
VIS - BasePortal - Done
VIS - LeafThread - Holding steady at 29%

More news in the Am.

And VS49688,

Don't worry about having the compile be shut down by outside sources. This comp is mine until mid august, and nobody is going to be using it except for me.
I'll turn off all the power-save options (except for monitor shutdown, this is a brand new screen... the reason i have this comp in the first place. i did a screen swap) and it's a laptop so if we lose power it'll still have a 3 hour battery keeping it up.

if a power outage lasts too long i'll have a word with my manager. I do work at the power company ;)
unfortunatley my wired machine downloads at the same rate the wireless does. Which means your server is bottlenecking the process. Oh well.

guess i cant start for another 2 hours lmao.

What else do i have to modify for the 32 bit mode?

Or can you just tell me the compile settings and i'll have the compilator do the work for me

And.. it took YOU seven days.
you won't hear from me for a month...
Still worth a shot though.
The computer runs only windows and the wireless network card.
I can disable everything but the basic OS functions to maximize speed.

The laptop i'm running is a Dell Dimension 6000. It's crap.

My Main computer specs:

AsROCK p43 Twins Motherboard
I have that same processor, not overclocked
I also have the 8800 GTS (not sure about the 320)
Generic 500W Power Supply
And 4 gig Corsair ram.

Looks like our systems are fairly similar. (Minus the overclock)
So if the lappy fails to compile i'll try it on my Main machine. I just won't compile my source maps while that's running.

I'll probably make some decent progress anyway.

My compiles are right around 2-3 Minutes. It's just basic light_enviromnent, and displacements.

I scrapped the whole middle part of my map 2 days ago. Made more progress deleting stuff then i did trying to get those damn subdivisions to work.
Ahh well.

I wanna compare to see if that could make any difference...
That's for my main machine.

I have a laptop i recently re-formatted (My cousin broke it with limewire pr0n) I can just set that up and see if it'll run.
It's 32 bit so i'll see if i can just open up the compilator and keep the settings you mentioned.

I can't try it for another 8 hours, as i just got into work. But i'll definitly give it a shot.

. I spend 1 month working on this map, where 70% of the time is wondering how to fix stupid errors.
Not to kill your spirit, But welcome to Game Development

As for the engine switch, you can import your current map into source quite easily.

you'll have to re-do a lot of the entitys, and ALL the texturing, but at least you wont have to do all the brushwork over again.

Just save the map in hammer 3.x and open the VMF in 4.0
Should direclty import.

So you WANT the trigger teleport to be rendered?
If that's the case, then just make another brush and tie it to a func_illusionary. It won't cut vis at all, nor will it make any clipnodes, and you can see it, but you can walk right through it.

The teleport itself wont be rendered, but when you hit the illusionary you'll be teleported anyway.

Well just make sure all your triggers have only one texture on them basically. Else it can cause errors. (You usually want to use the AAA trigger anyway for triggers)
And what is the brush with the AAA trigger on it that's getting rendered... What's its function?
Tetsu0 Tetsu0Positive Chaos
Posted 15 years ago2009-06-25 14:04:50 UTC
in Bad Surface extents problem Post #268860
Um.. is the trigger teleport the only floor you have in the map? because anything turned into a trigger teleport isnt rendered. so put a floor beneath the teleport if there isnt one there already
As for the AAA trigger, what is it supossed to be?

And bad surface contents can be a lot of things... It could be 2 different material types applied to the same brush (ex: solid / liquid)
If you vertex manipulate at all, you might've turned a solid inside out.
Does Alt+P show anything? (Check for errors)

And if you could, post up your compile log, maybe that has any clues.

And.... if it's just voice, the compression now-adays is much btter than it was in '98.
