Yeah, MODDB does that while the admins confirm that it is good to go. They check things like the website link and other info to make sure it isn't linking to "unsavory" websites.

Trying to give a little constructive criticism is all. It's part of the process. I'm not sure how seriously to take it though when your responses are infested with memes and other random outbursts of fuck knows what.

All that I'm saying is, perfect an area before releasing media and if you do release WIP material be prepared to get a ton of comments and suggestions about what should be changed.

Argh, I was meant to add this onto my last post. Anyway:

For a smooth brick texture like that, A greyscale image to use as a bumpmap would be similar to this.
User posted image
The grout is lower than the bricks so is a lot darker, whereas the bricks would be more raised, (but not too much) so they are a lighter grey, not white.

Yikes. You went waaay overboard with those bricks. The bricks in the texture look like they are on a similar level so they should all have the same sort of brightness level, with the cracks in between them being darker / black. The one you created would be best suited for a smooth wall with a few bricks jutting out.

Also, you don't need envmapping on a brick texture. Bricks aren't all that shiny last time I checked. :P

Well, there is problem number one right there. Don't use paint for anything ever.

Get Photoshop or use GIMP as a free alternative.

The signs are way too thick. The desk could also use some work to make it look more like a desk and less like a block.

Textures could use some work too. The signs look like they were done in paint.

And Urby, I think I understand what you're saying. But I still need more info about that normal map plugin smile - :). (btw is there one available for GIMP ?)
I believe it works similar to the VTFEdit tool. I've never used VTFEdit to make normal maps so I'm not the best judge.

Same goes for the GIMP question, no idea, don't use it.

The Photoshop plugins are available from NVidia
Also, that texture is not a good one to use for bump mapping to begin with. There are too many dark shadows and they will be rendered as cracks by the bump map. Remember that height mapping is related to brightness of the image.

This is why I suggest working with a greyscale image when creating the bump map. Mess around with the image, makeing the higher parts (cement) as bright as you need them to be, then making the lower down portions (underlay / gravel) darker. (Also, make the gravelly part have a higher contrast level so that there is the odd (brighter) raised bit that catches the light.)

Gray scale the image and mess with the contrast to get a more defined bump map. That's how I do it but I use Photoshop's normal map plugin.

Comparing GoldSource with Source is like pitting a hamster against a Siberian tiger.

Yes the GoldSource engine can be enhanced and improved upon, but the fact of the matter is when people do this, they simply mimic features that the source engine can do as standard.

True, you cannot determine an engines possibilities from a few screenshots...

Bottom line. If you want a program that records good-quality fullscreen videos you're going to have to grab your wallet. Fraps is the best program I've come across for recording gameplay. The only issue then is whether your sound card is compatible.

(My RealTek soundcard is onboard so Fraps won't record sound. I have to mess with the settings in Control Panel whenever I want to record, but seeing as I only record for reviews which I narrate over the footage it rarely matters to me.)

I prefer mapping for GoldSource currently because I hate the way the source engine over complicates things.

Say I want to make a single player mod based in modern day London.

Right away I'm going to need a prop modeller or 2, a texture artist and everything else that goes along with getting a model in game and working properly.

Hell, even if I want to make a City 17 related mod, just adding custom speech means recording the sound, loading it into FacePoser to do the lip synching and facial expressions and fuck knows what else.

I can create a fairly unique environment in GoldSource with Hammer, Milkshape and my mic in a day or 2.

In Source, it would take a team of 5 about a week to get the same result.

That said, The Core is my last GoldSource project. I really need to get with the times... It won't be easy, but the first few years of GoldSource weren't either. :)

There are elements in the HUD, above the health bar which light up as and when you need to eat, sleep or drink, or have a crippled limb.

SLP - Sleep Deprivation
FOD - Hunger
H20 - Thirst
LMB - Crippled limb

They light up in the standard HUD colour when they begin to affect you (lowered strength, stamina, endurance etc) and turn red as they get worse. The PipBoy gives you a 0 - 1000 meter which you can check.

I told the khans to defend the NCR Dam, I told the brotherhood of steel to defend the NCR dam (ncr agreed to both) and I told the Enclave to defend the dam... It's the worst combination you can get haha all of them hate each other. But also I teamed up with Yes Man! so now he told me to blow the dam up myself, haha! I duno what to do now!

My opinion is this. Keep the random item drops but make them purely cosmetic (Hats, Costumes, Wearable items that are just amusing) and leave out the new weapons and shit. Focus on releasing new maps and game modes. The class updates are what put me off. I prefer TFC now personally. TF2 used to be awesome, and they fucked it.

in What's the origin of your username? Post #285907
Up until I started college (coincidentally the same year I joined TWHL) I only used to get to play Half-Life on-line due to us having a dial-up connection and my Dad's work PC being the only one hooked up to it. However we also had a LAN set up so my brother-in-law and I used that a lot.

I had dozens of names during that period, a few I can remember are:
Andyrew
Poo
Bloodbath
Blood_Baron
Psycho_Mantis
Monkeytoy
Monkeys_Todger

Well, when I started college I needed to create a unique email address. I came up with Urbanebula (pr. Urb-ah-nebb-you-lah) as it was a mix of Urban and Nebula, (City Clouds / Smoke)

Then I started playing Unreal Tournament a lot more and started joining communities so I kept using it because it was always available.

I go by Urby most of the time now because it is shorter and that's what everyone calls me. It's just simpler.
