It's TWHL's Internet Relay Chat channel (#twhl on irc.chatbear.com).

You need a tool like mIRC (http://www.mirc.com) to access IRC.

If you don't have mIRC or another IRC client, the link will fail to open as there is no program to open it with.

@G_KID: I've included an RMF.

@lucky4444: It's rather simple. Make your light beam directly under the door, then func_door both of them, set render properties on the beam to 'Additive', experiment with FXamt, give them the same name, and trigger them however you'd like.

Set the passable flag on the light beam if you want it to be walked through.

FGDs do not add new code.

Rosenberg is actually a normal scientist model with the Slick head replaced with Rosenberg's head. Either replace the model for normal HL, or make a seperate minimod with the scientist model in the mod's models folder.

in Try To Make Biggest List Of Ideas Ever Post #58819
Well, you can't expect everyone to respond instantly.

I have ideas, though I'd prefer to keep them to myself, or within my mod teams.

What I do if I'm stuck is stop mapping. I'll take hour, day, week-long breaks from Mapping if I'm stuck. This allows me to concentrate more on my surroundings and then I can draw ideas from them.

I also keep a little folder in my desk of level plans. I'll hack away at layouts if I'm on the bus, lunch break, etc...whenever I've got a few free minutes. If I get stuck, I can refer to my plans and change them to the situation I need to create a map for.

So take a break from mapping, relax, just do other things and you'll come up with a few ideas.

in logo.avi Post #58817
Correct me if I'm incorrect, but afaik, no, because the game tries to run an AVI file and gets a Bitmap instead, and it'll probably choke on that.

You could just have a single frame image and convert it to an avi with a converter, though.

in doom 3 mods? Post #58808
Part of the reason I purchased Doom3 was for the community.

All the magazines and websites claimed there would be lots of mods within weeks/months of it's release.

It was supposed to run at 800x600 on my GeForce FX 5200.

It was supposed to have next generation editing and modding tools.

They lied. Instead I get a shite community with no tutorials save for some gigantic editing ones, some difficult to use and poorly laid out editing tools, and a game that will lag on low difficulty at 640x480 on my average card.

Thanks, iD.

You'd need to edit some new code to add new working weapons.

The HUD and icons are stored in sprites in the GCF/PAK files. You need a program called Sprite Explorer to view the sprites.

Open Texture Application (Shift-A) and check the 'Face' box.

If both boxes are checked, you can set a negative X or Y value to flip the alignment.

in models vs. prefabs Post #58060
That's where the screenshot key comes in handy ;) .

What I like to do is walk around maps that I find inspiration from and screenshot areas that look good to me, along with screenshotting the lights, doors, floors, walls....all sorts of parts of the map to draw inspiration from whilst mapping.

On the topic...prop models can make decent levels look great. For example, trash models in a city street level can really add to the detail, while paper and pen/pencil models could add to an office level. Just don't go over the top with their implementation.

in face/world issues Post #57877
Align to World aligns textures on faces to the world's texture orientation settings, while align to face aligns that texture to the face it's on.

Align to world is what should be used most of the time, Align to Face is mainly useful on signs or textures with text on them.

I don't know why this "error" of both boxes being checked occurs, but if you need to switch alignments for certain things like decal application, you can set negative scale values.

Other way around, I'd say.

Any world brush that touches another world brush will split faces and possibly increase r_speeds. For trees or table legs or 'detail' brushes, I'd recommend to func_wall them.

What I do to get a screenshot of reasonable quality and size is to scale it down to 75% of the original size and then save it in JPEG format with least compression. It gives you a decent quality image with a low file size.
