No-scoping someone yesterday in Bad Company at relatively long range.

a few reasons why this is a bit more out of the ordinary...
1. He was shooting at me, you die fast in that game...
2. No matter what, you pretty much HAVE to have a neck/headshot to 1 hit kill a guy, and he had just seen his local medic.
3. I really didn't try, I just saw my health draining, freaked out, spun a bit, and blew off a round, and my health stopped dropping...

Yeah. If you can stay relatively low-priced, you can still last years before you need a real upgrade.

I'd stick with the DDR2 for now though. 2 to 4 GB. I have 2 and I'm doing just fine. RAM is one of the easiest and one of the more inexpensive (as of now) to upgrade really, so that should be one of your least concerns. Get a decent GFX card, I too would recommend the 8800 or 9800, especially at the price they're at now.

2.5ghz or so dual core would be suffice for a long time. I'm running 3ghz dual core and i really dont have much as far as limitations.

And yeah, there is really no reason to need SLi or Crossfire. Most people don't have it, most people don't need it.

I was fond of Classic and of Aero. Luna was always bleh imo. Although Windows Server 03's twist on Luna with the Aero style to it was kinda cool...

I can't really give good advice on that, but I hear Asus is a good one, and I had a Sapphire which worked really well for me.

  • Balance
  • No massive firefights where you'll have to restart ten times because you die to easy or aren't supplied what is need to pass through it.
  • Architecture
  • Having something pretty to look at as you move along really keep the map going. As long as it isn't too distracting.
  • Well Thought Story
  • Including a beginning middle and end, with reasonable detail and understanding.
  • Interesting or unique gameplay
  • Having something that no one or not many other people have, and pulling it off well is really a key point to a really good SP map.
Dislikes:
  • Never ending firefights
  • Including but not limited to: massive hordes of enemies that can easily overpower you, fighting enemies in every single place you go to, and fighting without properly supplied weaponry and armor.
  • Bad story
  • No clear plot, not story at all, pointlessness (i.e. you've been teleported here somehow. kill everyone that also randomly appeared here to win)
  • Bad mapping/gameplay
  • Boxy ugly maps, bad texturing, bad placement (especially surprise enemies in bad places) are all huge turn-offs.
  • Boringness
  • Playing that same old stuff every single time just gets to be too much after awhile. Alright, so you're a scientist and the guerrilla army invaded your base. I understand already, the last 20 maps I played were the same...

Yeah I remember this. I think there was another trailer awhile back, and it had some damn annoying breathing the whole time through.
But it'd like to see a bit more skill involved.
Out in the open with constant gunfire on you? No signs of being hit, with as realistic as this game looks like its aimed to be (in a sense) you'd think she'd have been hit as out in the open as she was...

It has all the same models, no need to buy extra ammo, and shield was a terrible thing in the first place.
And of course it doesnt have new weapons, its a remake, an upgrade to think of it. Not like it would make a difference, cs still sucks.

If you really don't like CS:S then why complain here?

But wasn't it Kleiner that DIDN'T want the Borealis to be used? Or maybe that was Eli.
Either way, we stopped their second portal storm before it happened, and if the Borealis is REALLY this important, then it's probably their best chance at finally over-taking Earth.
Either way, one party from the humans did NOT want it to be used. The other did, more than likely to send Gordon to the Combine home-world and destroy them from the inside out just as he did to Xen by killing Nihilanth.
ValvE is known for their amazing series, I highly doubt they'd ruin it in such a way, and if they did implement the portal gun, I don't think the use of it would be very long.
In fact, I believe that if they did, they'd do it Super Gravity Gun style. Some machine malfunctions giving the Gravity gun temporary Portal abilities.

If you haven't noticed, that man standing there is DEFINITELY holding a crowbar, indicating Gordon. Since they'll be out in the Arctic, and this looks very combine like, I am guessing that some sort of teleportation device is on the Borealis and will take us to the Combine homeworld. Kinda of like a mimic of Half-Life.

So I have somewhat of an idea of what I want to do, just not sure how to do it.
I tend to sleep in late in the mornings when I really should be up so I can get some work done. Now, I don't have an alarm clock, and I really don't feel like purchasing a beeping piece of shit if I can find away around this.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way that I could turn off, or hibernate my computer and have it turn back on at a certain time of day and then play some music. Any ideas?

Be aware the Spirit of Half-Life is a whole separate mod and you will not be able to play any maps made with spirit in the vanilla Half-Life.

I can agree with both sides, Vista does have a lot of cons to it, but seeing as standards today mean you probably should already have twice the hardware to support Vista if you're even remotely interested in the future of gaming, whether on Vista or XP, then you should be fine.

I use Vista, I've had my troubles, but there is already a lot of support and even more people willing to work around it. For people who are bothered the most by the UAC (the annoying messages you get asking you if you REALLY want to open MSPaint), there is a lovely program out there called TweakUAC. It works wonders, I even forgot Vista had UAC after awhile.

As far as game compatibility, some flat out won't work, others you can try with compatibility mode, which is a feature most Windows OS's have had for a long time. Yes, I know it doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.

Really, do we have to bitch every other thread in the forums about Vista? It's not such a big deal, and XP will be unsupported eventually, and you can't really stop MS from doing it, so deal with it.

Yeah that problem seems relevant to graphics. Do as Luke said and report back. But the lagging out doesnt make too much sense. That wouldn't be effected by graphics rendering, but you have plenty of RAM for HL2DM. =/

Your CPU speed is efficient, as is your RAM.
Try doing some virus and spyware scans, a disk defrag, and shutting down those resource consuming process while playing. It'd really help.
