i wish you'd space the compos out a bit more... give users a month to work on their own projects without having to worry about the comp deadline...Another reason to alternate the competition engines ? gives people a chance to enter all the HL ones, for example, but still with a break.

I'm with Ant and m0p in pretty all regards. Building a PC is not hard, and it gets easier all the time. All you need is a screwdriver. Really.

Maybe keep the judging and idea thinking from those compo's apart from each other, e.g. the HL compo winner judges in the next HL compo and the Source compo winnern judges for the next Source compo?That was definitely the idea ? who says that all the HL entrants will even have HL2? Gives them a month to decide on their subject too... ooh, that could mean some more From Base competitions!
Muzzle: don't worry, yours is an HL competition, just that, being the present competition thread, it's being used for people talking about what'll happen at the end of it.

This is an HL1 competition. After this and the sort-of-unofficial Source compo, the competitions will probably alternate between engines. I think having them running simultaneously is, and would be, bad entry count-wise.
Extra cool stuff impresses the judges. Just make sure it does stick to the subject reasonably.

The .VMX is a clone of the .VMF if you're in Source, and the .RMX and .MAX are the equivalents for HL1 mapping. Back them up, and then try opening them.

Is it a physics prop in the original map? If not, it could be not appearing on the grounds that it's being placed as the wrong sort of prop. Try making it a prop_static or what-have-you. Check the console for error messages.
