in Transparent modeling? Post #264866
Fonzies method is how i used to be done but there is a checkbox in Jed's HL MDL Viewer that lets you change textures to chrome / additive on the fly and then save them. Handy to have the program anyway seeing as it usually lets you check the appearance of the saved model as it would look in game.

Grab it: Here

Oh yeah. And you need either the transparency DLLs for HL, or use Steam version. Also, Spirit of Half-Life supports transparency in models too.

My original user name (Urbanebula) is extremely unique seeing as I made the word up. It was the best way to get a unique email address and later a unique website URL.

Anywho, back on topic:

Hello. Welcome to TWHL. I'm Urby the resident dude who shows up when theres cake and vanishes when its all gone. :)

Of course there's nothing wrong with working on a Source version a few months after the release of the mod. If it builds up a decent sized fan base you could probably cobble together a team willing to work on a competitive Source conversion.

No. Its not a render property on the entity. It's some kind of effect that creates a glowing layer over the model. It's used Opposing Force when you use the lightning bug weapon on enemies and is also used in mods like Sven-coop.

However, I have no idea how it works but I'm pretty sure it requires some coding.

So yeah. I guess with my PC being stuffed and the Sims 2 being as boring as it is I may be putting this on hold indefinitly.

However, later this year we should be seeing the release of The Sims 3 which is supposed to be the most customisable yet and has a major AI upgrade. I may very well set up a new thread upon the games release and ask you guys for personality traits and whatnot but until then I think I'm going to axe this thing.

The thing is, I have a wireless router hooked up to the modem which is what the laptop uses to connect and that never has any issues with Steam / MSN. The only time it slows down is when the desktop PC connects.

EDIT

Wow! So yeah, turns out my PC was trasmitting information to some Russian porno site. I managed to stop it briefly but when my firewall decided to install an update and rescan my system, BANG! 2 Trojans were infecting a great deal of my Windows directory including winlogon.exe and svchost.exe. My PC's memory was being drained by these 2 processes and task manager would lock up a few seconds after starting it. My system was pretty much dead.

Luckily, my virus scanner managed to heal these files after 5 attempts and as many restarts. Now, Windows needs to be authorized online using my product code...

Needless to say I probably won't be around for the next few days while I try and sort something out.

Man, PC's are a ball ache.

Reset my Router and that also seems to have helped for now. I imagine my ping will shoot upwards again though. Ever so many things seem to set it off. Then, randomly it drops again and I can browse and play without problem.

Connection is being stupid.

Ok. Just discovered that watching YouTube videos has the same effect. When I started up my PC this morning and Steam kicked in the net slowed to a crawl again. I killed it in task manager and restarted Steam and that seems to have fixed it.

Hey guys.

Got a major issue that only started up a few days ago but is causing some serious problems. I've been having a lot of trouble with my internet connection running incredibly slowly and I've just realised that Steam and MSN messanger seem to be using an awful lot of bandwidth. Whenever either program is active it makes web browsing impossible.

Why has this suddenly started happening and how can I fix it!?

Cheers in advance.

Yes. By reproducing VALVe's content in the form of a mod you are essentially giving away their game for free. That is kinda illegal you know?

Uhm...seeing as all the players and weapons are models then I'm gonna go with "Yes?"

I'm pretty sure some vehicle models come with CS 1.6. If not, they're not hard to find.

Having said that, theres nothing wrong with the brushworked ones you've got. They're pretty awesome actually, and you won't have to mess around with player clips and the like. :)

Theres a lot of nice details furniture wise but the rooms are lacking. Round off some of the corners (such as in pics 2 and 3), add height to the rooms / walls (using more than one wall texture looks good) so that there is more variety and pay some attention to the ceilings. Lights are good but play around with grating, pipes, vents and other small details to create a sense of place.

Also, keep up the great work. :)
