in Fear 2 Demo is out Post #261901
F.E.A.R in a nutshell by Urby :rly: - A mash up of Doom 3's scare tactics and the Matrix' style. Often genuinely terrifying but its main aspect is definatly the action. Some of the fire fights are impressive but it all boils down to a pretty average shooter The inclusion of the kung-fu and bullet time are a little unnessecary and the much hyped AI is nothing but scripting and bullshit.

I'll have you know, The Hunter can make anything into a hilarious adventure. One minute your bungeeing from a bridge in an advisor pod, the next your being chased down Highway 17 by an entire platoon of combine forces.

An that was literally over the space of a few minutes. Not to mention him finding a way into the void and then acting like L4D's AI director. Dropping in random enemies to prevent me from escaping.

Used to play a lot. Not any more.

RPG's have moved on greatly since then and I personally am waiting to see if Diablo III lives up to its predecessors.

Any really. Seeing as the best maps are basically arenas for people to mess around with. It depends what look you're going for. HL2 / CSS.

Can't believe I nearly forgot that one. It played a major role in my childhood.

Duke Nukem 3D. Played the demo, Played the First Chapter when it came out with a magazine, played the entire game when my dad bought it.

Bought myself the Duke Nukem KILL-A-TON Edition Plutonium Pack: The original game, an extra chapter and a shit ton of expansion packs. (Nuclear Winter Xmas Pack, Duke it out in the Carribean, Duke it out in DC. and another crap load of 3rd party maps) It was an 18 rated box set the size of a PC Case. I got it when I was 7.

Doom, Doom 2, Quake and Quake 2 came and went. Half-Life came and has never left me.

Finally, got my hands on the level editor and built some incredibly basic rooms. This was around the time my bro-in-law was messing around with HL mapping. You can guess where I went from there. :)

After all these years, I still prefer the MIDI version of Megadeth

(User was banned for this post ("Back-seat Moderation"))

The guy merely pointed out that the thread creator had posted in the wrong section of the forum. Something which a mod can easily rectify without going to the trouble of banning someone.

The Mods and Admins on that site are a pure example of an abuse of power.

I've never been banned from FacePunch because I rarely post. Most forums go with the flow and simply enforce the "Don't be a dickhead" rule.

Facepunch is run by dickheads. There's your problem. I mean hell, they allow users to post pornographic pictures to their hearts content, but ban them for pointing out the facts. What a fucking joke.

Hey guys. Been a while since I started one of these silly threads for no reason.

I was browsing youtube and came across something that really took me back to my teen / childhood years and it made me realise just how simple life was back then. It's incredible how far games have come and even though HL1 was out in 1998 it doesn't really take me back in the same way. One reason is that I still play it regularly. The main reason however is because it's soundtrack wasn't as memerable.

Here's what I mean. The following links are to game tracks that remind me of certain points in my life.

The first game I could play. I was 5 and this song still sticks in my head

First game I ever played on my PSOne on my birthday.

First game I ever got addicted too. Also the very song that was playing in the background when I asked a girl out that I liked. She said yes :)

Oddly enough, the song I had stuck in my head while on a 30 mile bicycle trip in the middle of summer. The surrounding fields were all dried out and golden.

There are loads more but I wanna hear some of yours. Maybe some of you are familiar with the ones above?

tl:dr? LIFE IS SHORT. MIDI ROCKS

I didn't even know there were textlights in Source. I always use point-entity lights. I know there is a line of code within the materials .vmt file which determines how much the areas (created using the Alpha map) light up and what colour the light is but I don't think that this emits light like a GldSrc textlight does.

I think i'm going to cram all this shit into a mini-mod file.

I don't know, I just can't stand having a messy Valve folder.

Another thing. Player needs HEV at start point. Having several weapons and not being able to select them can fuck players right off.

Another thing x2. I can't play the latest version, I seem to be missing all the model files. You might as well include all custom files in the rooms.zip file each time whether they've been updated or not. When it's finished players will need all the files anyway.

Friday will be the next chance I get to copy over the files I want to keep before I format the fucker so god knows when I'll be able to finish up the room and upload it.

Should have done it earlier but I got excited when the parts arrived :(
