It's a little bit sketchy indeed. But I can live with it. I believe Archie's HL server is also hosted at MultiPlay. I don't know what his opinion is about their service and support, but yea, maybe I'll keep the server for another month or 2 and then find a different provider.

Pff.

They keep telling me that mods, modpacks and plugins require extra ram but I'm not using any of those at the moment, it's all vanilla.

They also don't answer my question how it is even possible how everything was working fine before, no memory issues whatsoever, and then all of sudden ram usage is exceeding the maximum amount of ram and the server starts to go bonkers.

Whatever.

I think I'll just purchase a ram upgrade and be done with this, because this is not getting me anywhere.

You people better keep playing on a regular basis so this upgrade doesn't feel like a waste of money.

Yeah I guess, it would be very annoying if you only get to play for 5 minutes before the server goes NNNNNNNDGJJJJ and kicks you off.

Might as well not play at all until I can fix this.

Looks like something is hogging memory like a madman, or there could be a problem with server hardware like bad memory module or something. I'll contact my host to see what can be done to fix this.

If the server is offline again and you want to play, post a message here or dm me on Steam and I'll restart the server whenever I can.

Sorry you got confused, Tets, let me clear things up a bit:

Like I said, the goal is to detail and pretty-fy the base map. You can do this by adding you own brushes, trims, holes for windows, detail props and whatnot.

You cannot remove existing brushwork, the base layout and design of the basemap needs to be intact. However, you are allowed to cut holes in the existing brushwork for windows or whatever, but only in the inner walls that don't "see" the void.

Hope it makes sense, if not, just ask. :)

ZHLT.wad is allowed, as it contains no actual map textures, only useful tool textures that you can use for optimizations.

If you don't like the way how some walls are clipped/carved or whatever in the base map, feel free to fix it, but don't change the shape of the brush, from a visual standpoint, it should be the same, ie, look the same as before the fix.

It's kinda stretching the rules a bit, but does the Half-Life alpha that was leaked count as "stock" textures? There are a few offices ones I'd really like to use.
Hmmm. Ok. I feel those textures are "stock enough" to fit well with the vanilla HL textures.
Atom, am I correct in assuming we can add as much brushwork as we like (including structural stuff, not just props/prefabs), so long as we don't remove any of the existing layout?

@Tet: Only vanilla assets, the default wads that come with the game. I feel that when people are using custom wads, they could have an advantage over those that use vanilla wads. You just have to be creative with the good old vanilla textures that we all still admire in one way or another. I know I do. Hope you're OK with this rule.

When you say we can't change the geometry, you mean just the existing geometry, right?
Yes, the existing geometry may not be changed, you can only add your own brushwork to it. Cutting into the existing geometry is fine, as long as you don't change the overall shape of the geometry. So you can cut a hole in the wall for a window or whatever, but only if that wall is not in direct contact with the void. Hope that makes sense.

Compo type: map from base
Engine: GoldSource
Game: HL singleplayer (the base game, no mods)
Assets: Vanilla only
Deadline: July 19th

Your task is to detail and dress up a boring bland base map, provided by Rimrook. You are allowed to replace the textures already applied, you may NOT change the geometry/brushwork, however, you are allowed to cut into existing geometry if you want to add a window, a trim or whatever, as long as the walls you're cutting into are not exposed to the void.
This is a GoldSource vanilla HL mapping minicompo, so you're going to have to dust off your vanilla HL mapping skills.

There will be a prize, and ONE prize only.
The winner will receive a free Minecraft code! If you've always wanted to give Minecraft try, but never got around buying a code, here's your chance to win one. The winner will also be allowed access on my Minecraft server.

I'd like to announce the winner on July 20th, as this date marks the one year anniversary of my Minecraft server. You only have 18 days to submit your entry. The base map isn't that big, so there should be enough time to work on it.

Base map download

When you submit, name your bsp file as atomsminicompobase_<yourname>.bsp.
You can submit your entry via PM. Make sure you provide a working download link. If your link isn't working, too bad, I'm not going to chase the authors.

I already did the math. Build the portal at -2224 -869 in the Nether. Go through, and you should end up in a closed off cave below a small island south-east of the main island, as shown here in the red circle:

I can give you the coords of the mushroom island, then you can do some math to figure out where to build a new portal in the Nether so that when you go through it, you'll exit out of the portal ON the mushroom island. From there you can easily get to the mesa west of the mushroom island.

I'm not going to bother with Nether overview renders anyway.

There are 3 mesa biomes visible on that map, to the left, top and right of spawn. The mesa biome on the left has a mushroom island biome (the bright purple) to the right of it, I say try to get to that one.

Only if you all agree to it, I will start a new world when 1.8 is out so we can have instant access to all the new terrain features. It will be a regular sized world, no extra large biomes (yay for you).

But there's no release date set yet for 1.8 so we'll stick to the current world until then.

No, the old map.
I think it's better to wait until 1.8 hits as it brings new map features, before we start a new map.
Unless you really can't stand the large biomes map feature that we have going with the current map, I'm happy to start a new map right now, but know that you're going to have to deal with ugly borders with 1.7 and 1.8 chunks next to each other when 1.8 is out and running, because the world seed updates.
