Theres alot more envolved here than working on first-person shooters. You can say that again!
Personally i'm going to hunt out a computer science degree. Make this thread again in about 2 years and ill have a dignified answer, heh.Well, everybody has to start somewhere, no shame in that. Once my military enlistment ended some years ago, one of the first I things I did was to use my G.I. Bill collage funds towards getting a small business management certificate. Nothing fancy, just the basics.
Who knows, you could've got the last oneYea, but knowing Newegg, they will have it back in stock soon enough, especially if the item is one that sells consistently well all the time. Of course, the item will still need to be in circulation, if it gets discontinue by it's manufacturer regardless if it sells or not, well......there wont be much Newegg will be able to do about it.
My parents said that they wont even get any made, because of the look on my face in the picture.Yea, now that you mention it, they might be on to something there......
Tito that's a workstation graphics card, that's a pretty average price for a good one. Drop one in a gaming rig though and it'll seem like you're playing on three year old equipment. They're built for the high-end 3D modeling in movies and such, they're not built to the same specs as the average consumer card.Oh I know, the Quadro line of cards is meant for heavy duty workstation use. It is probably the ones used by animation studios like Pixar. Now, some game studios might use them also to make the "pre-rendered CGI cut scenes" found on some of today's games. But for actually playing the games, yea, the other cheaper, regular graphic cards need to be used.
Actually hlife_hotdog, all that money is very real. I recognize that photo, it was taken about 2 years ago in a big drug bust in Mexico. All that money was found in a mansion that belong to one of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels. There's cardboard under those bills! I just know it!
Now I can simoultaneously run not five but ten copies of Autocad with a detailed 3D plan of New York loaded and read my emails at the same time!Your the man Daubster, go for it! Hell, why stop at just New York, load up too at the same time Hong Kong & Tokyo while your at it, that should teach them.......
to be honest, tito - I rather suspect most of those "honest player" stories are just people denying that they cheated. VAC is held with pretty high regard. You might be right. It's also interesting how you said "most of those honest player" instead of saying "all of those honest player". I think you suspect something, but only a bit. I remember reading this interview from one of Valve's executives, he was asked about false positives on cheating, and his response was "we are still working on that issue". Man, I wish I knew where the hell I saw that at, it was about a year ago, but I can't remember now. As soon I find a link to this interview, I will post it. I do agree with you that some of these banned players are lying, but I am also sure some are innocent. Like you said, VAC is held with pretty high regard, and I agree, but I also say that as good as it might be, it's not 100% perfect, therefore not 100% fool proof. NOTHING ON EARTH IS. Remember, the system is only as good as the people behind it, it only takes on mistake from just one person to throw everything off.
If you used a hack, you deserve to be banned. Congratulations.See, that's the thing about this, what if no hacks were used, but still got banned? Sure, if you used a hack, you deserve a ban. But what I have been hearing around and got a bunch of people confused is there were a while back a lot of underserved bannings from "false positives". Now, some of these gaming companies that are doing the bannings are saying they have fixed the false positives discrepancies.........Have they really? Do you buy in to this?
lol Star Trek sucks.Okay, I see you made your point about Star Trek, you don't like it. Now, is it just Star Trek or is it sci-fi in general you don't like? The reason I ask is that I know some people who don't like Star Trek either, and yet love other sci-fi stuff, like for an example: Star Wars.
I hope this is a miserable disaster so the whole franchise's reputation can be ruined even more, but I don't know if that's possible considering all the Star Trek branded shit we've seen thus far.
Seriously, I don't think anybody cares except... dorks.
And yeah, I did watch it. Looks like a typical sci-fi trailer, nothing unique.
They better not ruin it, I like star trek :/Well, the main guy behind the movie is big time Hollywood producer & director J.J. Abrams. To get an idea of the quality of his work, here's a complete list of his filmography: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0009190/
Actually, that's TWO pancakes.Yea, I know. But the picture is not my work, so I can't really fix it.
Tito, what happened to your overly intelligent and philosophical posts that I've come to know and be annoyed by?Nah, just kidding ATDestroy. Really, here's the thing: I was having a few beers, so I was under the influence of alcohol. Please disregard that post. Oh, as for my "overly intelligent and philosophical posts", I will see if can try to tone it down then.
i really need to torr... i mean, buy that programWell, if you are so interested, then I recommend you visit the official webpage and carefully read it. Also, you can try to see if you can be put on their beta testing program. You would need to specifically ask for it or tell them exactly what is it that you would like to do.
"Optimizes the entities in compiled maps, allowing you to include more entities and also reduce network traffic."Yea, it sounds good, but wouldn't it also reduce the overall visual quality of the entities?
The actors for Kirk and Spock look a little young to fit the bill, but I reserve judgementThey need to look that young, according to the movie's plot, they will be featured as Star Fleet Academy cadets.
if he didn't take the texture photo himself, it'd be illegal for him to sell itTrue,.....but to a certain extent. If the texture came from a picture or texture bank with a user agreement that states "royalty free", you can do what ever you want with it, as long as it does not specifically excludes selling it. And if it does not, then you can sell it then. Now, I suppose for one to be on the safe side, it would be better to come up with your own custom graphics, that way you can rest easy knowing that if you do sell it, no body can bitch to you about not getting their cut.
Tito what's wrong with a div and overflow: auto?Oh, nothing really, they are okay as long as you don't have too many of these scripts running on the same webpage, it could slow down the PC. Now, I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly from a previous post on this same thread, Penguinboy has made it known already that he does not like using these type of scripts, especially if they are not cross browser compatible, or at least that's what I understood at the time.
Recent forum posts on the front page should extend to recent comments on maps as well
I don't think there's really enough space on the front page for that.Well, this is a text book example of why the iframe tag was invented in the first place, but apparently some webmasters don't like using it due to the fact it requires an additional html file to display the contents, which is the same reason I try to limit it's use when ever I can. Then, there are those funky Web 2.0 scripts, like for an example a "Collapsible DIV", a "Content Glider Box", a "Switch Content Script", an Accordion Content list" and other clientside scripts like these that can also be used to display a lot of content in to a tight space. Of course, using these methods will make the webpage all that more time consuming to edit when updating it's content.
Oh Noes The Line ;OHehehe, nice come back pic there, Habboi.
The line .Well, after that, I supposed it's not just a matter of this thread being closed, but when.
I agree with Luke. These threads don't belong here.Ha!.....Now that right there, is funny.
Quote: You don't belong in this thread.
"Bla bla bla" was a little bit funny, but the other text? What?I agree. You have to be careful on how much of the "geek factor" you throw in, The_(c)Striker. If it's not balanced right and your joke comes off more like a "statement" against Microsoft than an actual joke, the punch line could get lost to some people. Now, I did get it somewhat, but it could use a bit more refining on the text, especially on the ending. But it's still okay.
In the green image, the little graphic to the right of the text looks like someone giving the middle finger.
looks more like a dick with an abnormally large knob.Hehehe, yea it does. Now, if you click on the "[Open in new window]", you would notice that it could just be an arcade joystick by looking at more carefully.
Facebook's Social Arcade can be found here (you will need to sign in with your Facebook login info): Social Arcade is a Facebook exclusive application allowing anyone to make their own arcade games. The ALPHA version - was released in the first week of September, and will at first allow the creation of 2D platform games.http://apps.new.facebook.com/socialarcade/
As new features are added, the following types of games will be possible:
Shoot-em-ups (Space Invaders, Scramble, Galaxians)
Retro Games (Tank Blast, Missile Command, Pacman)
Racing (Super Sprint, Horse Race)
Sports (Bowling, Pong, Tennis)
And much more besides...
Absolutely no programming or art skills are necessary. All game entity behaviours are managed by the application using server-based AI behaviours. The user simply chooses the type of game they want to make and then construct it using the game elements for that genre. If you place down an enemy it will act like an enemy and it will know how to move around any scenery that the user places down. All game elements like scores, lives, high score tables and title pages are handled automatically by the app and can be customised by the user.
Once the game is completed the user simply clicks on the "Publish" button and the game is posted into their news feed on Facebook for friends to play and enjoy. If the user chooses to share the game for editing, friends can take the game and make their own version.
Social Arcade started development in mid-April 2008 and will continue to be developed through to 2009 and beyond.
Behaviours and Intelligence
Behaviours encapsulate everything that relates to a game object, including artificial intelligence, animation frames and sequences, sounds, effects (such as particles and events). The user doesn't need to worry about any of this, the application handles it all. Every object in Social Arcade will have a behaviour associated with it that relates to what a user might envisage the object doing. For example, a tank will move around slowly kicking up dust as it moves and shoots cannon balls. Another behaviour will make a lava ground object emit fire and smoke and kill anything that lands on it.
The AI section has been a big focus and at an early stage we realised that we wanted to make upgrading Social Arcade as painless for users as possible. To this end all the Behaviours (which include AI) are stored on the server rather than inside the application. If we want to add a new behaviour we simply write it in the AI language we developed and store it in the database. When Social Arcade runs it pulls the current set of Assets from the database together with their suggested behaviours. This method makes Social Arcade very easy to extend without forcing the users to download a new version each time it is updated with new features.
AI controls all game objects, such as static backgrounds, platform lifts that move back and forth, ladders, enemies that hunt down the player and so on. The foundations for the behaviours are in place and working with the selection of assets we currently have. We would like to cover as many genres as possible, although at the moment we have been concentrating on the "Platform" genre and will expand to cover others later on.
Direct control over the arrangement of the gluon's, quarks, neutrons, protons and electrons. Offcourse, not forgetting the Atom. Also, photons would be nice so i can turn myself invisible to.You know what pepper, that's the same power that Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen has (the blue guy):
No limits, use your imgaination. No limits, uh?
Constant zooming in and out would be rather annoying. Using that two finger gesture over and over would surely lead to carpal tunnel, hehe.Uhmm,....good point. Well, you can always try to switch between your left & right hands every once in a while to help reduce hand fatigue, just like a good dual-hand major league baseball pitcher would do. And just in case, having a tube of Ben Gay rub cream and a bottle of Advil won't hurt either.
The blunt quality of people's fingers disables the user from being able to put something exactly where they need to. It lacks accuracy. That was my very first thought when I first saw the Autodesk demonstration video. Now, I am pretty sure the reason they did this demo video with just a finger, was to help convey to the audience a bit of "wow-shock". I will bet you that just as easily you can use a finger, you can also use a fine pointer pen, similar to the one the Nintendo DS & most PDA's use, that will resolve the "blunt" issue. As for the accuracy problem, no different from what you can do in a graphics editor like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, just zoom in closer to the area of the model you want to work on, and your accuracy will improve, you will have more control of the area as far as details are concerned.
