in Compiling Post #101948
Allright, my map is coming along fairly well, but im having a problem. I can compile with fast vis and rad, just to get a feel for how the map will look. But when i'm compiling with "normal" vis and rad it just seems to stall out. The compiling machine is a P4 3.6ghz 1gb ddr2-633... i let it run for a full hour and it stalled out on "portal flow". I also put it on my other pc (2.8ghz 1gb pc3300), and i get the same results. Any ideas?

in ladders ??? Post #101595
I was having trouble with that tutorial as well. I was informed there is an easier way. Make a brush with the nodraw texture. (i use one thats about a unit thick and place it in front of my ladder prop) Then apply the tools/ladder texture to the side of it you intend to be the climbing surface. It's a red looking texture that says "ladder" on it. Select the brush and press CTRL+T to tie to entitiy. select "func_ladder" from the dropdown list. this should work, and is how i am currently making ladders. Credit to RabidMonkey for informing me of this solution.

Are hl2 and cs:source both installed? Make sure you've at least loaded both games into their main menu screens.

Ok, i hear water cannont be applied in 2 different levels on the map? as in having some on a lower point in your map, then having more higher up in the map. is this true?

I have created a ramp, and the texture applies to it the wrong way, IE, the sides show the texture horizontally, but the ramp itself goes vertical, what am i doing wrong?

Still need to know how to scale objects from maya into HWE... unsure how to get the measurments right between these 2 programs... thanks.

2 questions. When i make a prop static in my map, it first i couldnt see it, untill i pulled out the radius for it a bit... I do notice however it lets you pull out the radius 2 times... what are the functions of both of these? Also, I'm unsure if anyone else uses maya, but how do you ensure your models in maya are scaled correctly into Hammer? I was going to make a metal archway support structure for one of my buildings, but i have no idea how maya will translate into hammer... thanks.

Hehehe, my mother would credit you for correcting my grammar :P I'm sure i'll have more than enough questions for everyone. I'm also sure you can see where I'm coming from asking for some support over comms. I personally retain much more and learn better through hearing and interacting. So thats why I ask. Hell I might set up a vent server just for mappers if people want to exchange ideas... And, when i've learned enough i'll contribute myself.

Rabid, i dont want to bust out the server info publicly... and i cant seem to find a personal messaging system in the forums. Feel free to email me and i'll get you the info, thanks!

in Some basic mapping help Post #99944
Hello. I'm a new cs:source mapper, and of course i have many questions about the entire process. Tutorials from web sites such as this are always a great help. However, I still want some one on one help from an experienced mapper, who can answer questions and perhaps walk me through a few things. I'm looking to have someone join my ventrilo server in their spare time, perhaps when they are mapping as well, and perhaps lend a helping hand by answering some questions i have as i'm creating my map. I'm no artistic genius, but I do believe if it's worth doing it's worth doing right. I got into mapping for fun, and as an exscuse to learn Maya 6 as well. I'm NOT annoying, and I wont try to take up too much of your time. I can offer access to a great FTP server, and I can more than likely host your maps for download if you so desire. (this is on a t3 connect). BTW, if you are under 18, or are offended easily by swearing, this probably isnt the ventrilo server for you  Anyhow, if you are someone who spends a good deal of time mapping, wouldnt mind logging onto ventrilo while you do so, and is open to some questions, please post back with a way to contact you and I will be sure to do so! Emailing me at aboleth@hotmail.com is also fine, just make sure you post here telling me you did, as i get lots of junk in there :P Thanks!
