I came by this article while perusing Wikipedia:

http://cscs.umich.edu/~crshalizi/Dawkins/viruses-of-the-mind.html

Figured I'd share it with those of you potentially interested. It's a pretty interesting view of religion, and has some interesting conclusions. :)

Personally, I don't trust the people who wrote down Muhamad's teachings. Who knows? he might of been a nice guy.

Gabriel might have talked to Muhamad, but I doubt it. He was probably just seeking attention and recognition, as history shows.

Egypt was a haaard place those days...
Egypt? Muhammed lived his life around Mecca and Medina. That's in current-day Saudi-Arabia, so you missed a bit.

Religion in general is just a big gamble. You could get lucky and pick the correct one (assuming there's something as unlikely as a God and afterlife), but with the sheer amount of religions, there's a gigantic risk of accidentally worshipping the wrong god and end up burning for all eternity.

According to a statistics site I found, there's 19 major world religions, which are divided into circa 270 mainstream interprentations. Christianity alone has 34 000 identified seperate directions, where the majority most likely considers all the followers of different directions as damned to an eternity of fire, brimstone and unpleasantness.

Instead of wasting a lot of time trying to find the one less ridden with contradictions and odd commandments, I choose to live a life of trying to get as much as possible out of this short trifle on earth, without haggling people for having other values than me. (Seriously, christians, lay off pornographers and gay people. They're not imposing on your lives!)

Conidering how cheap harddrives are nowadays, you should go for a 200-250GB HD.. The price difference is so small that you'd be a fool not to. :P

Just make sure it's 7200 rpm or better. And I agree with Seventh-Monkey, get a S-ATA. :)

(If you can afford it, go for 400GB! :D)

Hehe, love how the discussion derailed into Star Wars. :P

Just my 2 cents: Religion and communism is the same, blind belief in impossibilities to soften the harshness of reality and save one from the effort of coming up with real solutions.

As for claiming that man never descended from the apes; you've got a lot of genetics, biology and archeology providing damn good proof. :P

in True advert from norwegian television Post #109277
I'm posting this mostly for the americans, so they can see what europeans get away with, while the FCC jumps onto american networks that show a brief glimpse of a nipple. :P

One of the channels, TVNorge (TVNorway - a somewhat trashy channel that shows a lot of reality shows, soaps and B-movies), run a WAP based dating service called Match. I just watched an advertisement for it, and I was - for the first time ever - genuinely shocked by a commercial.

It consisted of clips of "happy" couples.

The first clip showed two smiling people hugging each other in a couch.

The second clip showed two people sitting naked in a bathtub, naughty bits covered by foam, holding wine glasses and making out in a quite romantic way.

The third clip showed two people shagging in an elevator in a really undignified, up-against-the-wall-thighs-around-the-bloke way.

The fourth clip showed an apparently naked woman from shoulders-up, bouncing up and down with a very sexual expression.

Then the fifth clip came, one that actually made me spit out the soda i was drinking at the time: It shows an appartment. In the foreground, there's a guy that seems to be clad only in underwear. He's ball-gagged and wrapped from throat and down in tight shrink-wrap. In the background, you see a woman in a black Latex uniform with a big whip, actively using it on the hapless fellow. :zonked: :zonked: :zonked: :zonked:

Then it cut to a white background; a 3d rendered cellphone came gliding in, the service logo appeared (Match with in-woven hearts), and the wap address of the network.

Recording an album costs a lot of money for rent of studio, producer, marketing, production, etc.

If you like a band, you should buy their music and support them.

I meant to load it into some editing program and adding a texture and small details to make it look more real. Right now it has a certain Made-in-paint-and-glued-into-HL feel to it. :(
