in how do you make a train Post #347462
Figured I'd upload this map I just happened to have made earlier this month, it's for a project I contribute to:

https://twhl.info/vault/view/6743

It basically is a test map with examples of what works (and what doesn't) for the func_train and func_tracktrain entities. The map is also filled with point_message entities, and while they don't work in GoldSrc, you can read their "message" field in Hammer to understand what you're looking at. Hope this is helpful.

But everyone knows bunny hopping is bad and for those who doesn't have anything better to do then just completely ignoring the spectacular scripted and AI gameplay events created by Valve.
Bunny hopping is what made games like Quake; in fact TFC is barely even playable on Steam because bunny hopping is horribly ruined it almost makes me take down my TFC server (even FF added back bunny hopping and endorsed it). If you don't see the appeal of bunny hopping, then you've completely missed the point of fast paced first person shooters altogether my friend.

Also regarding WON HL, don't you guys hate how Steam HL is horribly injected with DRM? WON is not only a DRM-free version of Half-Life but it is the most classic in my opinion. That's why even on Linux I prefer to play it under Wine, Half-Life is just a steaming pile of dog do-do on Steam.

I whipped up two quick icons, I may rework them later but for now have a preview and a download link:

Some quick notes:

I released them under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, created Sprites for use in Sledge, and I also left in the .xcf files from Gimp. Hope they provide some use.

That's really awesome to hear! I think I might make some sprite icons, any requirements? Can they be a different format so they're easier to replace and all that good stuff (like PNG)?

I mean in terms of when you load env_sprite and modify it. Though it would be nice to have some other of the FGD entries had sprites too...

Found this: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=35

"SavannahLion of HLPD has ported my HLLib library to Linux. The port has been dubbed libhl and contains a HLExtract clone Slatch."

The link provided is dead now but thankfully Archive.org has saved this page:

https://web.archive.org/web/20070630072842/http://half-lifepd.planethalflife.gamespy.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&cid=1

"Download Profile: libhl
libhl is a direct Linux Port of Ryan "Nemesis" Gregg's HLLib Windows library for accessing Steam GCF Files. This version is based on 1.1.6."

Hope you find this useful!

While I know Sledge is not going anywhere near OS X or Linux in the foreseeable future, I still thought it would be interesting to see how the source code would look if I ran it through the MoMA tool from Mono's site: http://www.mono-project.com/MoMA

You can see the output here:

Interestingly enough it ran better yesterday. This Wine 1.7.4 update seemed to cause Sledge to not even start. After removing all .NET versions and reinstalling what I can (up to version 4.5) I was able to get it running. However, now it only runs properly under Windows Vista and even then it's still more buggy than yesterday. I can't even open up a new map due to the fact it uses Wine's terrible explorer clone now for whatever reason. If anything starts to function better I'll post some new stuff on it!

Damn, seems I'm stuck with Hammer at the moment. Tried Sledge with Wine again, and it works until I want to open a map. Creating a map works but I can't move around in the 3D view with my mouse, only with W A S D. Perhaps I'll mess around later and see what I can get working. Speaking of which, would it be possible for someone to use Mono for Sledge?

Fantastic new update! The "Logical Tree View" is pretty nifty and I can see it being very useful for those problematic maps (usually the engine pushing ones). Any date for Sprites and Models in the 3D view? That would basically make Hammer obsolete completely for me. Also that History section, another great new feature coming soon?

Great news! I figured out why I couldn't use Sledge anymore. Turns out Sledge was using my integrated Intel HD Graphics instead of my nVidia card. So I simply changed what program it uses in the nVidia control panel! No more crashing!

I can't use Sledge anymore, it just crashes when I open up a map or try to create a new one. I think it might have to do with the wads I have loaded but it just doesn't seem to add up. I have even tried clearing the AppData and a clean install of Sledge, yet still nothing. At one point, I did have a crash before that let me send a bug report, so hopefully this can fixed.

Just an update, I think I pin pointed the source of bug #2 in my previous post. I ran into the issue again after closing out another tabbed map.

Also thanks Captain Terror! Most of the work in those shots really is by Rafael from our team. I did more background work in those maps, functionality and such.

Well here is a screen of me editing our latest addition to the HD Map Pack we released a while back. Everything working great!

Now here are some bugs I've encountered:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1ur-tndF9iDZm81RHRPNzBQbFE/edit?usp=sharing

1) Sprites don't seem to load initially? Eventually they show up, but am I the only one getting this?

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1ur-tndF9iDSG52dG9iOVlRZ1k/edit?usp=sharing

2) As a laptop user, I went into sleep mode several times and left Sledge open for hours. Eventually when I began editing again, all the transparent developer textures became black and I couldn't tell them apart.

3) I can't type in the letter "u" for entity names.

I apologize if any of these have already been reported.

Along with that I was wondering if there any plans for previewing sounds and if it was possible for entities with different render mode properties to show up in the editor's 3D mode as well?

Just wanted to say that this program is simply amazing. It has made GoldSrc map creation easier and faster for Bloodbath! I eagerly await each update, keep up the great work!

Edit: Holy bug report Batman! I just checked for errors, and after clicking on "Group has no children" it sent me a never ending line error report requests. Guess it really wanted me to report the issue...

I'm back on Windows, but just before installing it on my SSD I decided to try the latest version of the Compilator with WINE under Kubuntu. Happy to say it worked! All I needed to do was install .NET Framework 4.0 with Winetricks and I was even able to compile. Great update!

Well when I was young I use to go as G-Man, which was based on two factors: Obviously G-Man from Half-Life, and the first letter of my name.

So when I made my first online account at 11 (other than Steam/Gamespy) the name was of course taken, so I came up with TheCoolGman, a terrible name that haunted me for many years. I honestly have no idea what I was thinking when I made it...

My current (and probably last) alias I got from Bio class. We were learning about plant functions/life and Xylem was one of our vocabulary words. I simply thought it sounded like a great name and it's definition has noting to do with me or anything I do in reality.

After some thought I decided to remake Streetlevel(back in October). After finishing the map pack for Scientist Hunt, I finally loaded this back up and I'm so close to finishing it. Best part too is the reduced wpoly, which is now under 4000. In some spots it can be 3000+ but that's only near the gas station and another part.

Looks pretty sweet Collapse, can't wait to see it textured.

I do plan to, but I'm not so sure by what you mean blocky. I am trying to go for more of a 1998/1999 styled map, though it might be lacking some detail in that area?

Most of it is pretty finished though there is still quite a lot to do. My main goal has been accomplished though seeing as the original maps r_speeds was 8400+ max, and this version is 3400+ max.

noSICK, superb work. I didn't even feel like posting my shot of Streetlevel. Has an awesome Cyberpunkish feel to it, definitely would like to host a map like this on some of my severs(Scientist Hunt and The Specialists port?) It also reminds me of Gunman Chronicles.

Joe, sweet looking model. It's pretty faithful and matches well with the other HD/SD models.

That's pretty much it so far, there is another area behind that door, check a few pages back for a screenshot of it.

I like the lighting in the shot above, though the buildings seem a little flat and the side walk seems odd, needs a different texture. Other then that it's not bad.
