in Model spawning at wrong coordinates Post #346329
I think that's indeed the problem! The models I've mentioned are based on decompiled player models, but converted to be used as NPCs instead. Is there some easy way to offset the model and all its animations through the .qc file, perhaps? I've tried using the $origin command, but haven't had much luck so far.

in Model spawning at wrong coordinates Post #346311
Hello! I've recently been working on a model replacement pack for a mod, and I've been encountering an issue in which some of the human NPCs I've created as a replacement spawn in the wrong place in-game. More precisely, their placement is the same, only they spawn in the floor at the waist level. Of course, I probably don't even need to mention that I've only taken up modeling recently...

If someone could point me in the right direction for solving this issue, I'd be grateful.

in Changing a texture's palette Post #346129
Thank you both for your answers. And thank you Admer for the detailed answer based on GIMP - that's precisely the application I'm using. While I had managed to obtain the color palette myself after having switched to indexed mode, I ended up stumbling over the fact that I had to manually modify every color in the palette, but playing with Hue-Saturation in RGB mode did the trick.
You gotta practice to get the results you need, maybe for a couple of months or something. There will be pain and frustration along the way, but it's worth it IMO.
Yep, customizing game assets and creating new ones is definitely no easy process...but it's definitely worth it, there's only so much one can do by reusing the standard assets all the time.

in Changing a texture's palette Post #346124
Hello everyone! While I'm certain that the question I'm going to ask will sound very elementary to most people in here, no matter how many Google searches I've done I still can't wrap my head around how to make a simple palette change for a texture so as to, for example, change the textures of a blue scout in TFC to a purple one or convert the textures of the HL1 truck to winter-themed, white ones. My image editing skills are next to non-existent, so I'm hoping that someone could point me to a simple method to achieve this. Thanks in advance!

Friendly advice: you have to stop becoming so unmotivated every time you hit an obstacle, and most importantly, you have to stop considering yourself a failure and write posts on the Internet telling everyone how miserable you are. That's simply going to lead you nowhere. And, at least speaking for myself, I don't appreciate seeing others uselessly bashing themselves instead of trying to improve, no matter the difficulties they might encounter.

We all have to begin learning or doing something from scratch. We're not born with already fully developed skills or abilities. We have to slowly build them up over time. That will not only make us better at something, but it will also make us more confident of our abilities (and of ourselves). So just try to get into the mindset of learning something, and learn it well, without feeling hopelessly discouraged every time you encounter even just a minor difficulty. Challenge yourself to learn it a few hours everyday, or even just every two or three days, but be constant. Only in that way you'll ever be able to achieve anything.

Most importantly, stop thinking that complaining will solve anything.

in Competition 36: The Whole Ascension Life (Mini) Post #341932
It's been ages since I've last used Hammer, but this sounds like a good excuse to get back into it...and of course, it helps that I also happen to like this competition's theme.

Maybe I'll add an entry of my own!
