Can we possibly make the news updates smaller or something? I hate scrolling all the way down to see the latest posts. :(
Posted 19 years ago2005-06-28 20:24:57 UTC Post #117613
I suppose I could just hit the End button, but...It looks better with smaller news imo too :)
Posted 19 years ago2005-06-28 21:22:26 UTC Post #117619
I can't adjust sizes, so I just have to post shorter news articles.

I'll take shorter stuff into account in the future.

Nah, don't do that, just remove the previous news post (if that's possible).

Maybe atom could page a seperate page for each "full" news item. With a "read more" link after a few lines, on the front page.
m0p m0pIllogical.

In the news page we'll have the name of the articels and if you select an articel it will jump to another page with it! (It may jump to a page with all of them of course but this articel must be viewed on the screen, like in tommy's error page that you choose an artical and you get to a page full with all the articals but you are located in the place of the artical)

Can't =<

How about we just scroll down for now? Is it that much of a hassle?

Create your newspage full length and on the index page, link the "read more" to an anchor at each newstory...

I agree with m0p and Rabid and Ant. That's how it used to be, remember? Was just an oversight on atom's part when he re-did the front page all those years ago.

I might well vie for administrative rights and re-code it myself.

I'm going to try this new idea.

I will post a short stub on the index page, and then link to a forum post with the full newspost in the Site board.

That way it also works in terms of "comment on this newspost".

Edit: No, probably not a good idea. They're locked. - Rabideh

It might be a good idea though - if we got a new forum section for it ?
That way we could have a proper archive too. Give this another try. Maybe make the News even shorter on the main page?

Just my factor 0.02 of generic currency.

Will talk to atom regarding a new forum section - I agree, that would be useful, to have a proper archive.

I need to re-edit the HDR post =[

I've ahem got a copy of TWHL's source code from the time of The Incident. I'm going to have a try at implementing my in-dev. PM system when it's "finished" and talking to atom when it's all done and dusted.

Good. Some of the mods should get Admin powers here. It's really pointless having to wait on atom (not that I'm bagging him out or anything).

Nah, it's perfectly fair, he being at Uni, I believe. I'll e-mail him when I've finished my messaging system and integrated it with the version of the code I have to some degree (a feasibility demonstration, or whatever they're called).

YAY! ;)

And while we're on the topic of new forum boards - i think we could use an extra Map Vault for maps that have been recognised by the community. (No reviews or anything, just mods putting popular maps in there)
Posted 19 years ago2005-07-04 01:53:18 UTC Post #118489
That'd involve a lot of work for the, what, 2-3 active mods?

Actually, We could make the community decide - on the Star rating, you could have a check box for "Recomend for Best Of Vault" or something phrased better.

Then the mods just move the maps that have a high enough "score"

And while we are at it, a CS and HL? mod vaults would help also - there's no rush in putting everything we have now in the right place, just encourage the news maps to be sorted properly.
Posted 19 years ago2005-07-04 14:29:34 UTC Post #118577
The "Best of Vault" page could be done seperately, on a page hosted on a non-TWHL server.

As a matter of fact, I've been thinking about buying a web hotel along with a domain(twhlers.org or similiar) and putting IRC stats, user blogs and possibly the "Best of Vault" thing there.

We'd need to eliminate spam rating then. I suggest we take the SnarkPit's approach, wherein you have to leave a comment. If you don't, your name appears on the list as someone who has voted.

I could do that if atom lets me have admin stuff. I should get Mercutio stable at the week-end, I'll then try and integrate it into the code I have and the database that it'll generate, and let atom know. Then... we'll have to wait and see.

My greatest concern is that atom might still be using his dad's business's webserver and might therefore be reluctant to give p0wer to me :).

Hey, that does ring a bell actually.

Of course, he might well use the same server for all his PHP projects, so it might be a no-no on that count :(.
