everytime i try to compile something it never works...someone suggested to me removing entities until it worked. but instead of doing that i just made a new map, it was a hollowed out square, with a ct spawn point....thats it. there was nothing wrong with it at all, and it would still keep saying that it is compiling for hours. what should i do?

ok i got it...do i put it in my valve hammer editor folder?

I recommend you download Zoner's tools (I personally like ZHLT 2.5.3 Merl Custom Build 1.7, but others prefer the newer 3.x.x series), and use Nem's batch compiler instead of Hammer. Hammer sucks for managing the compiler, for example, you can't even see the progress of VIS and RAD, until they have finished, the log view just freezes while running VIS and RAD for some reason.

That's just the wrong attitude, m0p.
But seriously, use the fucking edit button.

Anyhow, to clear things up:
ZHLT / MHLT :
Compiling programs. They replace the original qcsg, qbsp, qvis and qrad that are designed for Quake.

Nems batch compiler :
A program which runs the Compiling programs (ZHLT or Q*tools) in order on the .map file. It has nothing to do with the compile itself, but is merely a UI for Batch compiling.

Now, to set up ZHLT tools in hammer, open your Options dialog and change the build programs lines to point to your ZHLT exes. Where you place them doesn't matter.

Posted 18 years ago2005-11-02 19:27:58 UTC Post #144960
what does UI mean? and what do i do with the batch compiler, do i compile through hammer first and then do something with the batch compiler?

For crying out loud, use the EDIT button instead of creating another post.

No, you only compile through Nem's if you're using it (note that you don't have to in order to use ZHLT).

Save your map as a .map file, then load it up in Nem's and run it (with Nem's setup for your Compiling tools (ZHLT).)
