It pretty much just takes a good mind for shapes to do this...
Its very possible to accompish this with VM. Remember, the more Brushes you use, the more realistic it will look. Where you draw your limit is either where you get bored and want to stop, or where it takes up too much memory.

making such a thing from solids will make any Hl1 server lag.It won't lag that much. Its kinda small.
It will also create tons of leaf saw through portals. If you want to make such a thing from solids func_wall it(easier for vis) and clip the inside.(less clipnodes)Turning it into a func_wall won't cause leaf portals saw into leafs errors. So ya, func_wall stuff like that.
