applying a texture to the floor

Hi. I'm new at making maps, and I was wondering how to add a texture to only the floor. I've tried using the ignore group button, and selecting only the floor, but it selects the ceiling. how do you select only the floor?

k dont select anything then pres shft-a( texture tool) then click on the floor and then click the browse button, now you should pick a texture and aply it if you did it right you should have only the floor texture

and hammer has a cool feature : hold down the mouse when selecting 
you can select through walls

Just use the texture tool, click the floor, select your texture and click apply! Presto! You have textured the floor!
