I've been thinking lately about how poison and fast headcrabs and zombies got like they are. I havent played HL2 and I don't have much knolage of it. So without knowing much about it and stuff (sorry if valve or something has explained how they got like they are). So heres what my thoughts about it are. All the headcrabs were just normal headcrabs at one time in their life being fed by something on xen and when the black mesa things happend most of them were called to go there. The ones that got bodys were well fed and stayed as they were, but the ones that dident lost most of the fat on them and changed into fast headcrabs which as you know turn into fast zombies when they find a body but because when they dident get enoght food in black mesa they required more off the body (The skin and all). And the poison headcrabs (that were normal at the time) Dident get enough food so they went like the fast headcrabs and assuming that the food on xen looked something like toxic waste the headcrabs went to eat some of it and got filled up on it and formed a resistence to it and use the toxic stuff as a weapon when they hit you. then when they finally got a body (how ever many it was) after a while the poison built up in the body and made it stronger and puff up a bit.So thats what I think. But I wouldent know much because I havent played HL2. Any other thoughts or comments on mine?

They're just different sorts of the same family. Nothing about mutations of the original sort, the others just weren't teleported to Earth (probably because the portals Gordon caused only hit a certain part of Xen). I assume the Combine later imported the other sorts to use them as a weapon against the humans.

I didn't like those headcrabs though. I think Valve went overboard filling the game with more headcrabs and zombies, leaving too little diversity of other enemies. Besides, I don't like zombies and horror-themes, so, yeah... didn't like that too much.

Yeah your right, they just came from another part of xen. I find the normal headcrabs fine and the fast ones.But the poison ones just look nasty, I've only seen pictures of them but still they just don't look to nice. I mean if they hit you, You get 10 damage and it takes you to 1 heath. And then theres the poison zombies which are the strongest 150 heath I think they have.

yep 3 different species of headcrab = 3 different types of zombies. Poison heady's are the shit but, freaky little buggers. And the initial wave of aliens from hl1 were apparently drawn/sucked into our dimenstion through gordon's actions.

Captain P is right, there are too many zombies and two few aliens, it's just headcrabs/zombies, combine, antlion and synths.

Remember though, VALVe had to cut a lot out of the final product because of the hack including a load of weapons, a load of enemies and a ton of maps.

If that bastard hacker hadnt gotten into VALVe's system and stolen all their work there would of been more enemies and more diversity in the game. Its such a shame VALVe didnt just keep everything they had in there and release.

I like the two new headcrab types, it adds a new level of play, I used to get really pissed off with headcrabs in HL1 because it was always the same old "MEERRH!" and you knew exactly what was comming, 3 pistol shots and bam, their dead. The new types give the headcrab a revamp, the fast ones are awesome and the poison ones are tough and nasty, combined with the original Headcrab I think its a winning formulae.

Wow I dident know that VALVe were hacked, But really They should have backed up the files on (I just came up with this) a computer with no internet
so it would not be possible to hack into it. Its something they should think about this next time they make a huge game (even though they won't see this). I did have a chance to look at some beta pics of the bull squid and some other things. Sorry about going off topic but I just wanted to say that.

Nonsense. While it certainly added to the release delay, it doesn't make sense to make a game less varied because stuff got hacked. You wouldn't cut down on your sales after someone stole something from you, would you? They scrapped a lot because it didn't add to the gameplay, these are pure design decisions.
In fact, several parts from the beta are recognizable as early stages of nowadays HL2 levels. It's just a normal workflow - you alter things as you go.

Though I still think they should've added some more variety to the game's enemies... ;)

I would have enjoyed a wider variety of weapons, too. If there's one complaint I have about hl2, it's that it doesn't have as many weapons as hl1.

I liked hl2, I liked hl2 a lot but at the same time, I hated it.

Why?

Because I found hl2 just 'another' good first person shooter actually. (here comes the flaming..) The theme of fighting true the streets with rebels against the bad guys (the combine in this case) is way overused and not very original..

If a headcrab attacked me from a corner, then I didn't freaked out like I used to do, I mean, what can I say? It just ain't suprisive if that happens in every room.
I think zombies are really overused anyway, in hl2 and in general..

The combine were very cool and pretty new at the same time but their constant assaults in almost every chapter made it pretty boring after a time..

So in my conclusion, hl2 just didn't had that 'feeling' that hl1 had, don't get me wrong, I didn't wanted hl2 to be a remake of hl1 but really, a variety of weapons and enemies wouldn't hurt the damn game. :

Many people say that, FresheD. Hl2 is truly repetetive, always combine or headcrabs/zombies. In Hl1/opfor it wasn't like that.

I finally got a look at a zombie in the model viewer oh the joy :D

And Elon even though blue shift was small don't let it be forgotten, It was the first HL game I played other than uplink. It has the HL feel to it.

If HL2 is repetitive, I wonder what Doom3, Painkiller, FEAR, Quake4, CoD2, FarCry etc. really are... At least HL2 has more enviroment variation than most of those games.

HL2 has a large atomosphere, and its "realistic" with the assaults by the combine. I think the main thing about HL2 is that it was too short and some of the "themes" were overused a little, but lets face it, sequels VERY RARLEY get a better rating than the original.

Half-Life 2 was a good FPS, its downfall was its predictable and bland story line. Apart from the GMan, its all there right in front of your eyes. In HL1, you start off and you dont know what the fuck is going on, one minuet its all nice and safe, the next BOOM, shit meets fan.

Although it would be kind of hard to do that in HL2 as anyone who has played HL1 knows the story, and can pretty easily peice together what has happened.

HL2 was a fun cool game, alas it lacks as much replayability as HL1, simply because there was so much to do in HL1. Now if VALVe had made HL2 non liniar, where you could choose your own path, we would all be bowing down before it.

Don't think they ever should made HL2 Half-Life 2. I liked the whole plot with Combine and Earth being taken over, but It should have just been a test with source. If they took out headcrabs and Zombies, Just left the Synth (I count the Striders, Gunships, Carriers and Ant Lions part of the synth "Species", not just the things you see on the conveyer belts), and Combien forces(the different soldiers, police, and stalkers) in, would have been a much better game, there was no need to be connected with Half Life, Although a good sequal to HL is a good idea, Continuing the storyline, and ANSWERING question like who the f*** is GMan would be cool. Ohh, and in HL, the headcrabs were far overused than people stated in this thread, As soon as I went into a vent it became habit to be prepared for a "Surprise" attack from a head crab from a T joint, or a corner, they wern't used well in the game, at least zombies were a little creative, Pulling people through vents, smashing doors, and in Hl2, they had some cool traps.

Sorry got of track from original post, but the other headcrabs were going to be in the game (I have the collectors edition, it came with a little book with some concept art, and some bio) but they didn't do it. So instead of yelling at them for putting them in, yell at them for not putting them in HL.

Oh, then I'm glad they didn't put them in in HL... haha! ;)

Interesting though, they did have plans for these buggers while working on HL already? Heh... talk about lack of ideas... :)

There is some other stuff, like the fast zombies were originally for combine fast troopers that were for a part in the game that didn't make it into the final production. I just counted in There are 11 things that didn't make it into the game(example: The combine synth elite soldier), and at least 2 or 3 that they didn't use the model for, or it changed drasticlly (example : like the picture of the combine sniper).

....sorry, I am a big fan of concept art, no matter the game.

HL2 is a ok game... Nothing i would play more than once... Boring story, boring enemys... And those bugs! why would they have to ruin the game with a Starship Troopers rip-off? The zombies aren?t zombies in the HL games... I WANT REAL ZOMBIES! AND MORE OF THEM!

I don?t really like HL1 either... But it?s so damn easy to customise and map for so that?s why i play it... But it?s so much limits... A bad engine...

The movie Zombies that you call real are stupid and over used in horror movies, HL zombies are a good Idea more orginal than the zombies brought up by wictch craft, diseses, etc etc... Even though they are over used in HL2 I don't think they were used as much in HL1. I think they were used to much in HL2 because They couldent add as many as in HL1 because with HL1 people wernt knowing what to expect from it and wernt really worried about the reliese date, And with HL2 people wanted more HL to play so People were really annoyed with the game being delayed.Which put more pressure on VALVe to give the people what they want fast.

Zombies aren?t overused in movies, zombies are underused! And they aren?t stupid, they are cool! A virus that turn people into zombies and then whatch them slaughter and eat people, i just love it! But "zombies" in a game like HL is just stupid...It?s like putting in a vampire in a game of chess! They don?t fit in! and games with aliens are never fun... Neither is those damn grunts... HL is a stupid game...

I perfer demons from hell, a REAL zombie game or something like that... Not a half made game with aliens, zombies, grunts... They stole the headcrab from the alien movies... And in HL2 they stole the bugs from starship troopers...

That?s why i mostly play HL mods and when i play original HL it?s HLDM that i play... Can?t stand the single player game...

I did playquake 3, wich is just brainless (but fun) shooting.
I assume quake4 is the same and I've heard painkiller is quakish..

CoD2 and Farcry are ww2 kind off games I believe? I mean you can't just make something up to history...

Alright, put your handbags away.

Everyone has their own point of view, some like zombies, some dont, some love them and want more and more (Tosse) - whatever. HL2 had to try and account for all tastes, I think if they had put a bit more variation in the game it would of been cool, like keeping the super snipers (that could move) and the fast combine soldiers like the assassins in HL1.

Alot of stuff VALVe could of done better or worse. Some people love HL2, most of them that I know of are from the younger generation, you just dont see many games out there today that are targetted at an adult audiance (and dont give me shit like ZOMG its an 18), it just doesnt seem to happen any more. F.E.A.R. has been the most recent one to come close so far, possibly Doom 3 aswell, but even then I think thats more targeted towards the teen generations and not at adults (blatent rip of the teen movie "the ring" in fear).

Games like Duke Nukem 3D were desgined for adults, you could pay strippers to flash you. Now you look at the same type of thing in GTA, you pay 'ladies of the night' to get it on with you, and the car bounced like its from some b rated movie or a cartoon (I'm not saying I am a fan of 'cyber sex' or anything but they could of done better than that if it was an 18).

Games these days seem to be more based on "lol" rather than somthing that is enjoyable to play that you can indulge yourself in.

BLOODY SHIT INVALID COOKIE BOLLOCKS!

I just wrote a short review but I got booted when i hit post and lost it all.

Basically HL2 is short, repetitive (especially in the drving sections) and has no entertaining multi-player aspect or replay value.

Also steam is a bag of shit and runs like something Microsoft made.

I find Hldm2 a lot of fun when playing with friends, just to mess around with the gravity gun.
