Does Windows XP support RAR files? I mean, can you open an RAR file without additional third-party software?

Anyway you need a RAR extracting program sadly however I favour them over zips because with zips unless you buy it you have to wait till it says your trial has been running for so many days...
However ZIP has this cool ULTRA compression which I used for my wooping big Dedication map.
Also now we can discuss which is better: RAR or ZIP!

RAR is better than zip. and the winRAR never expires, it just tells you its a trial version when you veiw RARs in their veiwer. the rest of the prog works fine.

Personally I stick to .zip if it's intended for a large public (where some people may not have a .rar tool, while I want to reach as much people as possible).
I use .rar when it's intended for a few people I know and when file size matters more. And indeed, WinRAR doesn't expire.

It's probably better to do offer two formats: ZIP and RAR. RAR is a better format than ZIP, but as you said, people are noobs and they don't have something to extract RAR files with.
WinRAR is actually a lot lighter than WinZIP, and it also supports ZIP files.

In case you're wondering why I brought the subject up, it's because Causality Effect is compressed with RAR format.
It looks like a very good HL2SP map series. I'm going to try it out on my new 19" LCD monitor.

Get winace it's better then both winRAR and Zip. It can open/create both and many other kinds of formats like ace.
