Why do people drink alcohol?
What? That's hardly a deep thought, it's a chemical process. Alcohol relaxes people, which often makes them happier.

Stop quoting silly "one-liner" SERIOS FORTS.

qft!?

Quoted For Truth (Internet jargon) - Used on internet forums following a quote to make sure that the first 'poster' cannot go back and change what they've already posted. An alternative meaning is that the 'quoter' quotes the first 'poster' in order to show that the 'quoter' agrees with the 'poster'. An example conversation looks like this: "The sky is blue" and then "qft".

Was that aimed at me?

Its always bothered me on how we came to name things in the world, take for instance the word "DOOR" we all know that it is an object that we open to go some where.

Would it feel the same if it was called a truck? How do we come up with words for things that is universally understood, like cat, dog or even toast (cooked bread by radiant heat)

I hope that made sence....
For instance imagin if the following made perfect sence:
"I went to the kitchen's the other day and laid a frog, it cost me 20 slippers".

Now I will repeat it in the way we all understand:
"I went to the shops the other day and bought a book, it cost me 20 dollars".

This is heavy deep thought, and "no" I dont do drug's, lol.

I think so, Lefteh. People who become fluent in various languages have to, and do.

Posted 18 years ago2006-03-11 08:16:12 UTC Post #167668
The words would be pretty tough to trace back... I mean, like, someone made a word up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, then a person from another culture misheard it/couldn't pronounce it, so there it is in another language... Then someone took the new word, changed it to something slightly different, so it sounds better in their own language... and so on... You'd probably have to devote your entire life to it, if you want to find out where every single word came from... and you probably still wouldn't be halfway done by the end of your life. Words are words. There's not much point in discussing how they were made up, or why is this called "shuwr" and not "gwatko", or why do we "kligjer" instead of "tryclpet"-ing, etc.

Who came up with the Idea of calling dyslexia, dyslexia?

If you destroyed the universe, who would mind?

why do emos exist?
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-11 08:41:56 UTC Post #167675
Well I program C.N.C machines (numerical controled machines), the languages are different, for instance the Mazatrol system is unlike the Fanuc system, Fanuc reads G-codes for every single operation.
The Mazatrol system is much more clever because you can scan the drawing and down load it to the the machine and it will work out its own path, but you have to tell the computer what material it is to be machined.
It then pre-determins how long the tool life will be for each operation, and also work out its own speeds and feed rate.
I also have to program the robot arm to operate within the perameters of the machine, one wrong calculation and "BANG", (expensive problem to fix)

And what exactly was my deep thought you ask.....well, if I type a little about myself, would you respond with a smart arse reply, for instance it could be a negative reply for several reasons.

A. imaturity.
B. You realy dont get it and answer to your mental ability.
C. Or you are an ass.

Look forward to your deep thought on this..... :aghast:

why are some underground carparks not really underground at all, just under building?

If the concept of "hell" means eternal punishment, is there anyone capable of commiting an eternal crime worth of such punishment? Wouldnt such punishment always be unfair and make "divine justice" seem totally unjust?
If punishment is suppossed to have a redeeming factor, how would it be possible that going to hell is a one-way trip?
We can conclude that there's no such thing as hell.
If there's no such thing as hell, why the hell did I just write all the above?

Yeah, that's because whoever wrote that bit of the bible didn't write the other bit, and one guy was like "OMG SCARE PEOPLE INTO GIVING ME MUNNY LOL" and the other guy was like "hey, let's be nice to each other, yay". It's a terrible mess, as you can see from the state of the world today. Yeah, it's all your fault, anonymous people!

kinda missing the point - its like the lisp thing, why call a dysfunction where complicated words are muddled 'dyslexia' rather than somthing more simple?

similarly, is you say lysdexia to a dyslexic person they will not understand what you mean.
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-12 06:36:51 UTC Post #167877
Most people aren't dyslexic, so it makes perfect sense to slot together very well-established words as opposed to just making something simple up to benefit 0.01% of the population, whilst leaving anyone who hasn't been told the meaning completely baffled.
