I dunno if it's been mentioned before, but maybe have some sort of simple confirmation process for new members, like say they can't rate maps for 3 months or something.

Maybe that would help stay the bullshit 1-star raters who don't even download the map.

.. or bullshit 5 star raters, who give 1 line of comments, like "OMFGWOW!!1~ I C A LADDR IN TEH SCREENE!! PWN!!1 5*!!"

Yeah, just as bad.

There should be a post count and as soon as you've posted 50 times in the forum you are allowed to rate maps.

Or how about 25 mapvault comments before being able to rate?

i think that the comment or time before rating is a bit extreme but i think a comment is 100% necessary for a rating and only one rating per person as not to spam.

I agree. However, if we were to give each person a single vote, then I think it would be necessary to implement the ability to change the vote after it has been cast, in case you discover something you liked about it, or if the map was updated with a new version.

It can be done.

Right?

If something like that were to happen, it's easily reversable. :

Map vault moderators can delete those bullshit 1-star rates if requested, and the mappers can ignore them until it's done. Looks easy to me.

A site doesn't mature with time. Individuals do. And individuals are not always the same in a site. If oldtimers remain and less people join, the site can mature. If oldtimers start leaving and n00bs flood the place, it will get worse.

yea kasperg is right, if the map is so good and 1 shithead rated it 1 then the real reviewers can easily rate it to its real score.Or if its very crappy and 1 shithead rated it 5 then the real reviewers can easily rate it to its real score..Exp, It happened to one of the Kasperg's map someguy just registered and rated Kasperg's star-trek map 1 but it didnt really effect because it was so good that every1 else rated it 5.Get it?

Or make a "member power" thing. If a guy who made 100 map vault comments rate a map it effects more but if a guy who made 2 map vault comments rate the map it effects less.

Sajo's idea isn't half bad. But instead of making it dependent on how many posts someone has made, just create two tiers. When someone has made a certain amount of posts it's assumed they are no longer a n00ble and get a full opinion/rating powaz!

Spammers can easily break any barrier of that sort.

While it is a good idea in theory, I think it would be hard to make it viable practically. Everyone wants to get rid of one star spammers and people rating their own maps, but at the same time, everyone should have the right to express their opinion.

Therein lies the problem.. -.-

Being a 1/4 spammer this is what i have to say: Well, i dont think holding them back by making them have 50 posts or something will work.
Perhaps have a map vault modulator check up on every knew map to see what coments there are. give the spammer a warning and if they do it again........ban them?

They do express their opinion, its just..they wont be very powerfull till they expreince more in the map vault and making comments.
