Whenever i load my map it runs extremely slow and it seems like there is a wiked low rfamrate. It supposed to be a big outdoor map but i dont know how to make the backgrounds so i used normal textures and i think that is the problem. So how do u make a sky and everything like that and will it fix my problem?

First: You may have a leak. This causes your map to run extremely bad.

Second: Half-Life doesn't like big open spaces with lots of stuff in it. There are tricks to keep the r_speeds low in big open spaces.

To make a sky, goto Map ---> Map Properties and find the environment map (cl_skyname) property. Here you enter the name of the sky. Take a look at this tutorials to find out more: http://twhl.co.za/tutorial.php?id=6

Make things that are square in triangles.
If its filled with objects like crates and cars ect, try removing them or turning them into entities.
Increase the texture to X2, But for a big open map its will always be slow.

if i make a sky can i get rid of the cube i made to surround the level because i made a cube of textures that surrounds the level to prevent leaks

Do you have halflife.wad loaded in Hammer? Then you should have the sky texture.

I'm not sure, but I think the compile chops things into triangles, so if you make them triangles before, maybe it's easier to compile? :

Anybody have a linkie to a good, in-depth article about the compile process?

Here ya go, Rowley.

As you can tell from that article, the compile process is much more complicated than just cutting brushes into triangles.

i still cant find the sk y texture, is it included with the cstrike.wad or do i need to download new textures?

i looked at your tutorials and you dont have the installation guide for textures if u bought counter strike on Steam. You only explained how to download textures if you have the disc.

1)Look for the tutorial on how to create a custom wad.
2)Create a texture inside the wad named "sky" and it should work. It doesn't matter what size you use or what you put in that texture.

trying to make my own textures was a little to tricky for me but i found a great website(www.cstrike-planet.com/wads) for all the wads I needed. Thanks for the help anyway and ill try to enter my map to the competition when im done.
