I was looking back on some REALLY old threads, looking for an answer to my problem (Which I fixed), and I couldn't help but notice that everyone who posted anonymously was automatically a content contributor.

hmm???

Must be a code bug. I'll alert Alex to it when I see him next.

I really think we should bgo back to allowing anon posting, lets people ask stuff without going through registering and losing passwords and such just to ask one question.

IDEA:

Allow anonymous posting, but every time they post, they have to do one of those code things, so they cant just spam.

Or just have their IP posted in place of their username, like on Chatbear.

I agree with World Crafter here, though anonymous posting brings nothing but trouble. If they want help, why not make a little commitment. Plus, if they make an account, there is a better chance of them coming back :glad:

Well its more for the server to keep up with if there is a whole new member instead of an anonmymous post. I mean, if a guy posts anonymously, all the server has to do is register the post and that person's IP once. If someone makes a whole new account just to make one post, the server has to register the new user, all the information about the new user, the user's avatar, and probably a bunch of other internal code, in addition to logging his/her post and IP.
I vote anonymous posting for the sake of keeping TWHL speedy!

We'll look at the pros and cons of anonymous posting when TWHL3 rolls around. Anonymous posting was phased out because of spammers. But back then, we didn't have IP logging tools built into the site, so it may be an option now. We'll definately think about it anyway.
