This will be the default theme for TWHL when the new version finally goes up. A classic theme will also be avaliable (which'll look like the current TWHL, just with some slight positioning changes which you can see in the dev version) if you're an idiot and you don't like the new theme.

Good work, chaps. How about something other than the index page, though? ;)

I dont like the colors. They look too faded to look decent.

What happened with the original theme? That one was awesome.

Looks good to me. Smooth and easy on the eyes. Good job!

I don't like the bottom though, the sidebar stops too sudden. Minor detail of course. :)

What? No one likes Limey?
I made some ridiculous themes, mostly for fun. I'm working on the forum HTML at the moment, and as usual, internet explorer is being the biggest bitch ever. It's as if Microsoft wants to make us all become an hero.

Wasn't there supposed to be a User Announcement section? I heard of it a while ago....

The sidebar isn't supposed to end like that, it's supposed to extend all the way down. Code isn't fixed for that yet.

New classic took me ages to get right. I tried so many colours and gradients to try and get something that looked like the current TWHL, but didn't suck at the same time. Glad you all like it.

A little suggestion, the sidebar shouldn't move when you scroll down, that's a bitch for busy threads.

Was it ever supposed to do that? I don't see the point... the scrollbar is there for a reason.
Posted 17 years ago2007-05-23 05:12:54 UTC Post #223094
The sidebar should always be on screen, it's more userfriendly and it looks better...
Posted 17 years ago2007-05-23 05:15:16 UTC Post #223095
no it doesnt, it looks shit and invasive. also, frames suck.

Penguinboy, have you ever been on the HL:HS thread? Frames are a brilliant way to make a site look proffesional and behave proffesional. Where would you get such strange ideas? It's like having no phones in an office building!
Posted 17 years ago2007-05-24 14:40:05 UTC Post #223321
I think it's a crappy idea. It just looks bad.

But how would it even work, if the sidebar was taller than the height of a person's screen?

Much like our dear friend who fights for freedom, Tosse doesn't seem to have paid much attention to the web since late 1996.

Frames are bad. They're horribly unsemantic, they hinder search bots, they block a lot of functions on the user side and they are generally ugly. A much cleaner solution to get a scrolling sidebar would be to use the handy CSS property position: fixed;. Unfortunately, Internet Explorer, our undying foe, can't handle any of the relatively new CSS properties (which are sadly the most useful ones), so you'd have to resort to JavaScript.

In any case, JS is much better than frames. I don't see why this is even on topic, though, TWHL3 will not have a sidebar that follows the user's viewport.

You know what I think could be a very useful feature? A little checkable box that would switch a swear word filter on and off. I wouldn't use it personally, but some are more sensitive than others about that kind of thing, and this place does attract a wide variety of people. It would be a hundred times better than the permanent ones that some forums have, and completely unobtrusive for those who don't care to have it activated. What does everybody else think?

Seems good to me. Should be turned off by default though.

Damn it dudes, I have a grade in webbdesign, I know that frames are good! They are userfriendly and can sometimes be good for the loading time but that's mostly for the 56k dudes...

Anyway, that wordfilter just sounds silly and it would ruin jokes, flames and all that stuff. If people don't like to read COCK ASS PUSSY FAG FUCK DAMN they'll just have to ignore it!

Wordfilter cock to giant throbbing man-stick.
Don't forget meat crowbar ^_^

But it would be a nice feature but from what I can tell kids of all ages come here to escape their parents and the last thing they want is prarental control. It would help those who have website blocks that pick up swear words.

However let them jump into the big wide web and learn the nasties.

Are you just pulling facts out of your ass? It's widely known that frames are slow as hell.

But since you have a "grade in webbdesign", you obviously must know more than any one of us.

I fucking hate swear filters. If we implement them, they should be optional. I swear like a sailor and it always looks goofy when posts get replaced with ***s. We've all heard the words before.

They don't work either, so swear filters ultimately fail - wasting time & effort.

IMO... I really don't see a point. It's not like any of us really swear like truckers on a regular basis. Of course you have the "son of a bitch" and the occasional "fuck" but thats in frustrated situations. I vote no.

Well, your teacher should be fired since he obviously does not know what the web is about. Semantic HTML is must in today's web design. Ergo, you suck, gb2 internet explorer.
I'd wager you'd say "Dreamweaver is a great tool for developing websites" too, eh?
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-02 16:35:43 UTC Post #224227
Pfff... I don't care whether the swear filter is implemented or not, but some of you guys obviously never read what I was proposing. Of course it wouldn't be permanent, or turned on by default. I mean, what would TWHL be like if there were no swear words for anybody? In a word, shit.

It was just a suggestion. Frankly, it wouldn't have any impact on me, but I was thinking of the people who might find it useful.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-03 15:41:35 UTC Post #224306
Instead of *s we should use GIANT breasts to censor our swearing. If we compromise on wordy obscenities we have to give with imagery. But seriously, as long as it's off by default then who the heck cares? It won't effect you and can only do good for people who want to use it.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-04 03:51:56 UTC Post #224355
Yeah, that's the only reason I want to implement it: for people that want it. It won't affect people that don't want it anyway.
