Uhh... well now for a while iv been working on a total cool cs map witch i want to make my best ever yet! :cool:

I wasnt cinda shure on how to make it realy cool because some of my last maps didnt get such a good coment.

The map theme is atcualy from real life. i wisited this 1 cool place in london with my class and i realy waned to make it.

The theme is cinda like a river in london.

UHH LETS GET TO THE POINT!

well i wanted to ask u some help on how to improve the game play and everything else there is to be inproved including shadovs :)

This map looks far too unfinished to comment on the gameplay yet. And if you want help with the shadows, try showing us some screens of the compiled map. :)

I find the riverbed's terrain very impressive.

Well atcualy its all made by: my hand, clipping tool and the sweet vertex tool :)

nice isnt it? i wana make it like real life!

but im afrade my computer cant take somutch brushes... :(

That looks pretty neat. Keep it up!

For aim maps, there aren't too many gameplay aspects to consider really. Try and make things so that the teams can't shoot each other immediately, and give them interesting cover to hide behind. Try and give both teams the same amount of cover, but do your best to make each side different. It can be trickier to achieve a fair balance, but it's nice if playing T is slightly different to playing CT.

iv done the other river bit, but avbiously thats not all of it :P.

some people maybe do a cool ground like that and then copy + paste it.
i dont do that! i make it more cool.

oh and also the ground over there will be covered with bit of water thats why i have it like that

Well dont just keep making them from scratch.
Copy+Pasting works fine, just edit what you pasted and you'll be all set.

hehe lol. ITS ALL ORIGINAL CS WADS :)

windows gravel and the grass from cs_bdog.wad
the white wall and the cool bridge from cstrike.wad
and the others too from somewhere there!

I just know how to set them up to look real-life ;)

Looking good, although I wish you had some bigger screens to link to... I don't really get much out of the ones right now. You sure have improved quickly, but don't let that terrain get out of hand, or your r_speeds will as well. is the riverbed going to have water in it? If so, there's not much point in making it extremely detailed.

One little nitpick though: If nothing else, please start saying "kinda" instead of "cinda". :P

I could detail every mistake, but "cinda" has been sticking out for a while now, and it's bugging me. ;)

P.S.

Refraining from calling your own map cool so much might make you sound less boastful... I doubt that you're trying to be, but that's how it comes off as.

looking good.... forgot to 'tie to' barriers? :)

IMO, some of the textures look really lo-res - and stretched. Maybe lower the XY values a bit? Also that bridge doesn't look right - textures don't go with the rest and its blocky.

However, riverbed looks awesome! - As does concrete support pillars against the side. Really HL2'ish! Keep it Up!

alexb, if that's as big as I think it is, he's going to want to have the dirt textures stretched like that. It's already way too detailed for such a thing, but to then scale the textures down, that's just irresponsible.

Ghetto: How about you just make some custom textures for it yourself and put together a simple brush based one?

Your terrain is good but I think you need to lay off screens for a bit and work more on it.

i liked the river bend BUT!

u know this river is in london and basicaly its urbaned (concrete walls buildings bridges) and stuff like that. so i duno if that name would be good :(

I've made texture sets for an ENTIRE map using MSPAINT.
Check my kitchen compo map and you can see for yourself.

Another tip.. If your r_speeds do get out of hand, just delete an adjacent triangle, and stretch the one next to it to fill the gap. I know for a fact that every single triangle is not on a different plane, so combining a couple of them should prove useful, although a bit tedious.

He doesn't need to, TWHL already has a tutorial on it...

I'm kinda surprised at people's reactions to the terrain. Sure, it's nice and all, but it's pretty damn hard to screw up with the kind of layout he's got there. It's no big feat. I'm sure most people on TWHL have seen way better than this before, why the big positive reaction?

I've read said tutorial long time ago, but I think it's good to have lots of perspectives on how to make terrain. If you had downloaded ghetto's example map you would know that he tries a different approach. Also, it looks like he used two blended textures when you aren't up close.

C'mon srry, you have to admit he's learned a lot with his stay here at TWHL. I think people didn't expect this coming from Ghetto.

Agreed. He's come a long way since his first release, which in reality was also pretty impressive for a first release.

I'm liking this. Pity I don't play CS 1.6.

Yes.

Vis makes compiling take longer, but makes maps run better.

It's somewhat more complicated than that, but basically, you need VIS.

Send someone else with a fast computer the source files and ask nicely for them to compile the map for you.

Ghetto.. just give it an overnight vis compile. im sure you can do it yourself. it takes time.. go outside whilst its compiling or suttin.

use the -estimate thing to see about how long its gonna take,

well im realy not shure about it! because many times iv goten a Virtual memory too low error on smaller maps! so im quite shure i cant do it with vis or over night because of the virtual memory shit :cry: :zonked: :nervous: :tired:

Run your PC in safe mode and do a batch compile, it should help.
