Dunno what that has to do with TWHL3, but ok.

It's being coded from the ground up, remember.

The swearfilter is just a plane bad idea! If you just flamed someone and you feel darn proud too, then the guy you flamed doesn't know just what the fuck you said beacause all he could se was:

'** ** * **** * **** * * *** *** *** ** * * ** ***'

@ZL: You ingonrant little boy, what is your damage?
You obviously never really learned how you make a good site or how you optimize a 'kinda' good site. If you know how to use frames it can be pretty damn awesome, but you obviously don't. So I suggest that you go ahead and learn some basics instead of talking about your own faliures.
Sure, it would suck if you had 100 frames with different sources (like you probably did?), or even 5, but that's not the case here you bozo! Im talking about two fucking frames! One for the menubar and one for the site. And that would rock. So up yours ZL, you angry little boy!

Personally I think CSS layers are better. Not that I know much about web design.

And I just thought I'd save making a new thread Mr Anthony.

Tosse, until I see you come up with something like this, I'm going to respect Loffe's opinion on web design more than yours.

Frames suck, end of discussion.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-05 16:53:53 UTC Post #224520
God, Tosse, you really need to pick up on web standards, and you know, doing websites like they weren't done in 1996. Frames are bad - deal with it. Ask the W3C or the Web Standards Project or generally people who know how to make websites. If you're still not convinced, have a look in #css or #html on freenode. Those guys are pretty much all paid web designers, who actually keep up with web design, unlike you.

I would say "ZING", but that wouldn't be very classy of me.
Srsly, gb2 table layouts ffs.

Tosse thinks because he's in a web design class he knows everything.

Dude, seriously. Frames are shit. They serve no logical purpose.

Now, Elof and I regularly converse on website design as well as standards and whatnot, so we're fairly well versed. We also have designs to show: I have my own site and the design of the New Classic theme for TWHL3, and Elof has a bunch more (and is far more talented than I am). To my knowledge (and according to your profile), you have none.

The swear filter is going in. It'll be off by default. End of story.

God, I know enough about web design to say frames should be avoided, and I think ZL's web portfolio is proof enough that he knows what he's talking about.

And what's wrong with the swear filter? It does no harm as it's off by default. Good work TWHL3 peeps. Bad Tosse, bad.

Is it just me, or does Tosse sound drunk in both of those posts (especially the first one)?

Anyway, I'm not sure I would be too proud about using that many swear words in a row, but if the coders have any sense at all it'll be like "f***" instead of "****".

Alright, I have another idea, and I think everybody will like this one.

When deleting private messages, instead of having that utterly useless page with an "OK" button on it, I'd like a page to confirm the deletion with "YES" and "NO" buttons. I feel what's there right now is pretty much pointless, but it could be put to some use.
Posted 17 years ago2007-06-20 02:06:52 UTC Post #225762
Better yet, you could just tick all the ones you don't want then the delete them all in one click.

Has anyone mentioned we need an edit button for Map Vault comments?

We need a delete confirmation page, end of story.

Confirmation page makes sense though, you win.

I think one of the biggest additions TWHL3 needs is the ability to sort the map vault by game/mod of your choice (e.g. HL2DM only), and not just by TWHL's current mod sorting method (top to bottom). Not sure if that's on the cards or not.

Ok, New Classic got a bit of a GUI update today:

http://www.rabid-monkey.com/~ant/twhl/twhl3/

I tidied up a fair bit of the style code, and added some extra bits. The front page is nearly done, design wise.

Change the <div class="headers"></div> to <h4></h4>. Much more semantic. Should be easy replace work, both in the HTML and CSS.

Hey i just thought of something.
I dont know if it's been mentioned or not, but you know how if you click on the thread with the most recent post, it brings you straight to the last page?
Why can't every thread you click on bring you to the last page?

(gettin tired of clicking 4 or 5 times to read HL:HS)

There's already a button for that.

After the name of the last poster, there's a little arrow pointing right you can click.

When TWHL3 comes, i think we need some better forum rules......

I must admit, i have been on plenty of sites where they dont have forum modderators etc and they can still keep the peace without insults, swearing etc.
TWHL has heaps of modderators, but they do little to stop those who cause trouble.
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 05:32:24 UTC Post #228052
Swearing will always be allowed, as we already discussed. That's why there's going to be a swear filter if you don't like it.

As for insults... well, every forum has them, and I personally don't see the problem with it. It unavoidable when you're discussing things that people are highly opinionated about. I wouldn't exactly call it trouble.
There's already a button for that.

After the name of the last poster, there's a little arrow pointing right you can click.
I don't see it... I mean, there's these little arrow symbol things on either side of the page numbers that seem like they should do something, but they're unclickable.

Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 06:38:53 UTC Post #228055
it is rather small, isn't it?

anyway, i was thinking the forum topics should be expanded.

we already have

-HL1 discussion
-Source
-maps and mods
-site suggestions
-general

...but we need a few more like:

-tech
-modelling
-a forum for all those 'deep, religious, stupid conspiracy' threads, etc

any more?
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 06:57:08 UTC Post #228056
I don't think modeling is a necessary section, as most people here don't do it, or at least don't discuss it. I personally think modeling discussion should just stay in the forum of whatever engine it's for. I wouldn't have any problem if a section for it existed, but I think it may end up being kinda empty.

I also think having a whole forum dedicated to annoying political/religious/conspiracy threads kind of suggest that we want them in the first place, and encourages their existence. This is a mapping site, after all.

But yeah, I definitely think we need a section for technology.
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 11:09:35 UTC Post #228094
People don't talk about tech and have religious crap to have their own forums.
Luke LukeLuke
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 11:17:39 UTC Post #228096
There aren't enough threads concerning tech or religion for them to have their own topic. Everything seems to fit nicely into the 5 we have now, so why change it?

i still think there should be something done about "insults" etc, becasue, its just not funny when someone insults you for no apparent reason, at the very least, we should have a "No Put Down Zone" picture on the front page :quizzical:
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 20:08:11 UTC Post #228154
No. Grow up and harden up. This isn't an internet etiquette website for preschoolers. Seriously.

And when was the last time you couldn't tell why you were being insulted? If you are, there's usually an apparent reason for it.
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 23:09:09 UTC Post #228167
srry: I have the RIGHT to talk/ask about topics on the forums, without being insulted.

and if you find it funny to put in insulting comments (ie: My ABC HL thread: E enough of this stupic thread) then you can just piss off and go bother some one else, because im just sick of it.
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 23:21:17 UTC Post #228170
It's not a right, it's a privilege. This is the internet.

And when did I ever say I was trying to be funny?
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-09 23:28:29 UTC Post #228172
if you were not trying to be funny WHY DID YOU SAY IT? WHY?

"If you dont have anything good to say dont say anything"
"Good" is often relative, srry probably thinks that thread is a spammy load of crap. So saying it should be ended is "good" from his point of view.
Posted 17 years ago2007-07-10 01:09:40 UTC Post #228187
Gunter is correct.
if you were not trying to be funny WHY DID YOU SAY IT? WHY?
Are you trying to tell me that everything I say should be intended as humorous? Geez.

I think NineTnine asked that because he didn't realize that you thought the thread was a spammy load of crap(?)
