Now that the games are listed separately on Steam, here is what they cost:

Half-life2 - $19.95
Episode 1 - $9.95
Episode 2 - $29.95
Team Fortress 2 - $29.95
Portal - $19.95
Total - $109.95

The orange box has those games for $44.95
People who want only the three new games would have to spend $79.95 on Steam, which is still more expensive than the Orange Box.
I actually only wanted to play Episode2, I don't care much for the others and I don't think Portal should cost me the same as Episode1 did back then.
So, how long do you guys think these prices will last? Will we ever get the cheap pack with only the 3 new games?

:> i couldn't wait and bought the orange bo 3 days ago.

TF2 is the best multiplayer game i've ever played.

hey, who cares. i've lined up a guy for hl2 and ep1, and bought it over steam. not only do i save AU$45 for not buying retail, i get to play TF2!
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-05 08:23:38 UTC Post #235708
I'm buying it retail strictly because I want the DVD, I have HL2 and EP1 on DVD, and i'm not going to miss EP2 on DVD. It'll probably be $90-100 but I really do not care, I pay the same amount for any other game every couple of months, and i'm getting 3 in one package.

While it is a great deal cheaper on Steam I'm just not willing to pass up an actual, physical copy of it in case of.. y'know, problems. Waiting 8 extra days is no problem either.

Do the new games require Steam internet activation? (I only have retail HL2+cs:s). I mean, in case of "problems", won't retail games be affected as much as the Steam versions?

Kasperg: should anything go wrong I have physical proof that I own the game, that's all.

half-life 2 and episode one is like, a free gift in the package.
I don't understand what people are complaining about.

Would you have bought Teamfortress 2, Episode 2 and Portal for the same price as the current orange box? Yes, you would have.
Now you get 2 games which you already have in the same package.
So?

Nope, considering I only really want Episode2. And I can't get it for $19.95 or less, which is what I payed for Episode1 on release...
But given the circumstances, I guess the price is ok. Other companies sell 7-hour games for the price of the orange box.

Paying extra for a boxed title that's already marked up. Don't make me lecture you on retail business, damnit! :P

Well, I would without doubt buy the 3 new games for the same price as the orange box.
And ant, no advanced stuff, I know Im wrong about

It's just a point of view.
Even if that isn't the case, it would seem like it is judging by the prize

I hope you beat him with a lettuce afterward.

I won't be getting The Orange Box until October 18th. Hey well, at least that way I don't have to spend anything on it. Besides, buying it before then would be kinda pointless what with this PC struggling to run Flash games :furious:

Who cares how long these cheap prices last. If they go away, they go away. So if you want it, get it now.
You're paying more for Episode 2 than Episode 1, because Ep. 2 is [supposed to be] much, much longer than Ep. 1. Not to mention they had to make practically had to make a whole new game, since you're not in City 17 anymore.
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-05 15:19:21 UTC Post #235755
Good deal, still don't see a problem, REGARDLESS if you bought the other games or not.

TF2 is fucking awesome. I can't wait to play Episode 2, and Portal is a fun freebee.

Well...looks like I'm not getting Ep2, TF2 or Portal any time soon. There's no way I going to fucking pay to get 3 new games, along w/ additional copies of 2 I already own, nor am I going to pay MORE just to get the 3 alone. That's absolute bullshit.

You have horrible math. If you were to buy just Ep2, TF2, and portal by themselves, it would be 80. With the box, it would be 40. You SAVE 40 dollars when buying all the games, including the ones you have. There's no lose about it.

Unless you consider the black box, but it doesn't exist, so don't cry about it.

Episode 2, so far, is fucking awesome. The game play is fantastic.

Im about to go play some portal. Will be back for story time.

Finished both games. Portal taking roughly 4.8 hours and EP2 taking 5 hours. Portal was short but I think the length was just right as the same thing over and over could get boring if done for too long. I was compelled to go on because of the story and it satisfied me. I expect a Portal 2 in the future.

As for Episode 2...Valve have improved a lot in their design. I really like the AI now. So much more challenging such as the headcrabs running away when they are close to death. I also liked the Antlion Workers although they were a bit tough at times and I think Valve loved spamming them :) The game as a whole was great. They had some kickass moments and some funny comments especially by Mr Vort who follows you. I suggest to those who are gonna play it explore a lot because you'll find some funny conversations between rebels and such. Now I ran at pretty decent graphics and that handled pretty well so I was happy. But my flashlight symbol was that huge square you get when you are missing a texture..Not too bad but then the sound was acting up as well. It was too quiet and Portal was fine so...In the end I used ear-plugs to listen as the sound was unpredictable at times. But again that ending...Almost like a play...I am really interested to see where Valve take us next...Quite hard to imagine and no preview of EP3 was made. In the end bravo Valve. I look forward to mods using the new effects and such. I loved the cinematic physics.

Right lastly like I keep saying I'll be recording Ep2 and Portal and putting them on Youtube pretty soon. My PC is coming on Friday now and I'll have to set it up and such. I'll say when I've uploaded the first lot in my journal.

Anyway enjoy the rest of the game for those still playing. And for everyone else...BUY IT!

Crazy puzzles, funny humor, enjoyable.

I'm still confused on this. Does that mean that you can play all the levels of Episode 2 with just the Portal gun? How the fuck could you beat it? You can't tell me you can just teleport yourself away from all the battles??
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-10 22:56:39 UTC Post #236115
Gabe said that you could play through other Half Life 2 maps, specifically mentioing Episode 2 maps, with Portal. You can probably simply use the console to change the level to the start and, yes, teleport through each level.

Did anyone else notice that someone in the Portal commentary refered to Portal as "this first game"?
Posted 17 years ago2007-10-10 23:14:37 UTC Post #236116
Well the Portal game is loosely tied into Episode 2, so I suspect it'll get a sequel that's tied into Episode 3.

I'll be happy as long as they NEVER give Gordon a Portal gun.

Habboi: You passed them both in under a day? Don't you want to make things last at all?! I'll be making The solo adventures of Orange Box last at least a week or two.

I had paid a lot more for things that are hugely less entertaining.

Even so you can surely compile a map and then just place it in the maps folder? As for TF2 people just extracted the textures etc...So I'm sure you could do the same for Portal.

Its the official fgd that was included in the TF2 gfc shortly after (or shortly before, I forget) the files were unlocked. It was subsequently deleted, but obivously a good few amount of people got their hands on it.

The near end fighting sequence was the best ever. My computer handled the crazy physics stuff flawlessly, making it so worth it.

I wanna replay the game just to do the last fight again, man it was intense.

End was sad, kinda lame like ep 1 ending, too.

By the sounds of it, the music is still good. Although, my FAVORITE half-life music compostition was the one during Gonarch fight, I loved the hell outta that piece. =) It made it just feel awesome, and I hope they leave it in for Black Mesa Source, maybe redo it the same to up the quality, make it sound more clear and stuff? Dunno. =)

I always liked the one when the space shuttle goes up, and the song that plays when you first get to Xen.

The basis for the soundtrack in 6D, I relisten to them often.

Also, the song that plays when you get the buggy in HL2 is saved to my MP3 player.
