I would like to let the twhl, half-life mappers community know about this tutorial for beginner coders http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php?page=tutorials&game=HL&id=223#comments

Make sure you read the comments below btw.

I'd strongly suggest using a newer version of spirit. 1.2 is pretty old and still has it's stability issues. There are plenty of custom builds; As far as I know - the newest one is 1.5 alpha 4. Download the sourcecode here.

The newest version is spirit 1.7. And anyways it doesn't matter because I will be using arrange mode for my mod, which was built on top of spirit anyway.

Are you sure Muzz doesn't mind you linking to a rather large piece of warez hosted on his site in an article that'll probably be read by quite a few people?

As for the tutorial, you didn't really explain any of the code at all. Just saying "paste this here and that there" doesn't really help anyone, imho.

What the crap is spirit?

Spirit is a modifcation of the original HL code to allow things that we wanted to do... stuff like doors on moving trains without doing seperate doors, etc. It gives the mapper more control over everything and more easy access to the code. Its not a mod for HL.

I'm just letting the half-life community (and admittedly this is probley the biggest half-life mapping community site) about a coding tut for people to start of.

And about the explanation of the code, I will do, look out for an update at the bottom of the page in the next week or to ;).

why didn't you write the tut for this site then, instead of our orpheus-infested, emo-themed counterparts?
