Hi All,

1st of all I'd like to thanks everyone for all their help that you have given me in the past - I couldn't have done it without you.

Here's my map - let me know what you think!

Still having a light issue but I'm going with what I have.

I'd say two things need some work:
1. the map. try to add a little more "flowingness" to it. not just all angles. and use displacements!
2. your graphics card, man.

I agree with nickel plate!
Just don't ditch your design! Just improve upon the foundation, and you'll have a VERY nice map on your hands!

Wrong section, this should be in Doom Engine Discussion. Oh wait...

@srry: Lol

But yeah, your gfx card sucks a lot, not sure how you play with it. A good mapper DOESN'T label his map.... why do I see BUG in one of the screenies? Looks like it belongs in goldsource, TFC.

it isn't the graphics card, the images are saved as gifs.

i've have some pretty damn good looking .gifs, so it may not be. unless he did it in Paint

Paint would look worse. No, this is normal behavior for GIFs. Plus, anybody can see that they are indeed GIFs.

I'm actually using the valve files - unless I've configured it wrong - should I be using zoners tools still?

No.

What textures are you using?

Kill_the_bug. yeah, maybe its the fault of the screenshot, but you should really work on your texturing.

I mean, most of your map is just made up of rock textures.

I'm asking where those textures are from, as they're not any of the Valve ones from any of their Source games.

the textures, lighting and brushwork look like they belong in Deathmatch Classic. Really ugly.

Layout looks good though.

If your gonna take promo screens for a map I suggest you max out teh graphics no matter how slow it is.

You want your map to appeal to people.

Sort out ya textures!

2nded. The map looks fun to play but eye candy makes it more lovable.

Hey - thanks to all who commented - I tweaked the map- mixed in some new textures, added in some new props - railway tracks in tunnels etc.

But I'm not sure about the whole texture thing - I'm using valve textures so it might just be my Graphics card - Radeon 9200 - that's causing the problem in the screenshots - do video cards cause an issue when compiling?

For the final version I'll be changing it over to a more displacement type.
Have to learn it first - is that like the polygon terrain mapping? If so, I'm good with that in 1.6, just need to learn it for source.

A few people have played it already and they like the layout and game play - I also forgot to put in a picture of the dark cave - it's only lit with lantern lights - lol watch yer back for spies in there -

Anyways, if any of you want the more complete version to try it out on your system - you can dl it here form my site:

It's similar, but much faster. The basic use of displacements is easy, but some more advanced techniques can be learned that you can use to do some really cool things.

Textures should be scaled to .25, not 9,999,999

Actually, in TF2 i believe the texture scale is around 0.13..

Yes, many textures in TF2 are 1028x1028 and are scaled at around .13. Others are .25.

Seems a bit rash seeing as he was simply correcting you.

Seems a bit stupid seeing as he is a moderator.

Ok, here's what I'm doing;

select face - apply texture - texture is at 1 or 2 - bigger than 2= crap - smaller than 1 or 2 gives me a hideous tiling texture effect on the cliffs, floors etc.

The water looks great but the cliffs don't - I don't get it. :(
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-22 19:17:23 UTC Post #239019
then read the thread.

HL2 textures: 0.25 texture scale.

TF2 textures: 0.13 texture scale.
