Wtf.

So this model started as a simple cillinder primitive? No extra primitive's (except the eyeballs it looks like).
Looks like you're only using extrude, inset and... whats the other one...

I can do a very VERY basic rendition of that using blender.
Nothing to that extent thogh.
In essence, it's a basic model. An outstanding one, but using basic tools. But i do have to side with Muzz on:

What do you think?

heh, time to pitch in :)

As we are all very familiar, the long jump boosts your ability to leap large gaps. In description, its power assisted movement.

The Thesis: whether or not to add a high-jump addition to the Longjump module. A longjump while standing idle in place would perform the High-Jump, which would be a considerable height gain in comparison to normal jumping ability.

The Reason: open up the mapping a bit more to its possibilities. I believe this would have a better and more versitile use than that of a wall jump and would likely be easier to code in.

The Problem: Potentially not necessary, but i think it is. The only other problem is the increase in work for Daubster. He is the one man army behind the code on this project and has feated some incredible achievements so far.

Discuss it.

I like the idea. But if you're keeping the same control scheme, what happens if you are just crouching around and decide to jump? Will that cause a high-jump?
But then after you get said module, you'll have to control damage given from falling no? (if there is any in your ethereal world as it is)

Posted 16 years ago2007-12-11 00:27:28 UTC Post #240558
ok. If you're crouching and you jump, its a normal one. (or it should be)Kinda like when you're crouch-walking and jump, its not a long jump.

Minor blips of fall damage isn't going to harm the player all that much. Not with the systems involved with upgrades and all that.

The jump itself would be high but not damagingly high. Like 270 units or so. Enough to jump a clearly unaccessable area. This doesn't effect the normal longjump either. Since the normal jump is altered so you can easily jump at least 70 units high, the lonjump has a bit more boost to it. Or at least i hope so.

Also, i won't add it if it isn't fun.

code it, map it, test it, decide...

I see.
Well, when you put it that way, i think this might have to be a beta-testing issue. See if you/whomever plays it likes how it integrates them with the environment and puzzles.

I just pm'd him. Like usual, the little things are adding up. Concerned about getting the necessary stuff done absolutely first for the demo. To prove there is a solid foundation for the project.

I'm going to prototype this in spirit and release an example map. That will be a good indication, tho the version I'll make won't be too smooth compared to a coded one. It'll get the point across.

how does that sound?

i wish, but i was just gonna use some clever spritework that didn't work out. Particle system isn't as sophisticated as it should be.

I wish i could get some dynamic water :(

any way. the jump beta is here.

After trying it out, im very skeptical of keeping it. Yeah it opens up the mapping a bit, but it may be abused some way and all that. given its a puzzle game, leaving it out would leave in more puzzle for moving the player upward. Though how many puzzles can there be, and stacking stuff could get boring. I still think it would be nifty, but maaaaaaaaaybe not for 6D.

Can't copyright ideas, so the idea of the high-jump module can be used for something else if needed.

I just FUCKED UP SO RETARDEDLY BAD!!!

By sharing my "Treasure"-like find, I may have cost me the extra boost in reputation for 6D that could help me get a fuckin job at a company down the line. I may have already sacrificed thousands of dollars to share it with you guys and not such as a thanks from anyone. To my misfortune, I didn't know where the code was, I thought I had to contact the creator for it, and I didn't know it was included in the mod folder. No one said anything, no one fucking tried the mod to tell me it was worth the trouble. Chickfist proves that anyone can easily implement it. To put it simple:

The better reputation on this mod, the better the chance I get hired.

Pablo Picasso once said:
Poor artist copy, Great artists steal.
This will hurt the rep of the mod if it looks like I "Copied" this code. In reality, I did but given its open source, it was easy. I would have paid a good amount of money for the code if it was open source. But its free and now I opened Pandora's Box. That's what you fucking get for being a nice guy. As far as its use in 6D, I'll give full credit to the creator.

I need help from the admins to erase all mention of Mechmod and the links to the site where its located. As far as Flat-Life goes, I don't care if he uses it, in fact 6D is open source after final release. The difference is that 6D is a huge part of my portfolio. This need to echo as hard and loud as it can because if its get famous, Valve may pick up on it and thats a job I would like.

God I feel so fuckin stupid!

edit: Whats the use, Karma better get on her knees and blow me over this. Admins don't do many favors around here. :(

Uhhh huh.

1. They will never know of Half Life - 2D, guaranteed.

2. It's not like you're claiming the coding as your own, so it's not like you accomplished some huge feat. Anyone could use that code at anytime, people just happen not to. Just because you find it doesn't make it something that looks awesome in a portfolio.

If anything it hurts you for not making it yourself.

Yeah i know. "Cry me a fuckin river"

Even though someone else developed it, its not common. Anything uncommon thats this good is appealing.

If I could code, I'd do the whole fuckin mod myself, but we all can't be that lucky now can we?

Ehm. You're blaming me for making it look like you copied the code, which you did. (As did I) You were going to credit him for the coding anyway, so everyone would know you didn't make it, which you appearently want all the big "industry" guys to think.

He released it under open source license, I and everyone else has the right to use it... (It wasn't easy to implement either, I just made an enormous hack. It doesn't WORK per say, there's memory leaks and god knows what. Making it work properly would take a lot more work.)

Fuck it. It doesn't work for me. If it doesn't run on my laptop, its not useable. Not going to blow computers up here.

Either way the thread isn't going to get edited and why fuss over something broken. My I argued with my roomy and he convinced me that im better than fancy visual gimmicks. I still have spirit, I still have a slew of tools at my disposal, but I see the 6D water to be nothing more than a really nice texture and the shine effect.

edit: heh, just got a nice comment from someone.

"Master of Antiquated technology"

:)

but still... i don want it to look like "I am Rimrook I don't need fancy water to make my maps look good."
