Are they possible? Can they be made?

I'm making a carnival map, and working on the restrooms.

I was thinking maybe a camera entity might work, if there isn't a specific mirror entity, maybe we can brainstorm and find a way to make one?

I dont see a mirror happening without coding.. Even then it more than likely be a resource monster (as reflections are dynamic).

Otherwise, you could try a camera but it probably wont look right, and it will require an extensive amount of time to line up a camera to look backwards and be correct. You also wont have that 'gloss' that you're looking for.

Yeah, the camera idea was just a pitch, haven't done TOO much source mapping so wasn't sure.

You can create a func_reflective_glass but it's more expensive to render than the camera.

There's a trick you can use where you make a water texture with no animation and put it underneath a transparent texture:

Yes, but keep in mind that there's no player model! You won't see yourself reflected.

Isn't it possible to make a material reflective/glossy enough to achieve a mirror-like effect in Source?

Using cubemaps, yes. Think of the effect window textures have. It's very low quality. Fine for windows on buildings that are always a good distance from the player, or for really slight effects but it would look terrible for a mirror i think.

although it is certainly the easiest option.
