As far as I know its down to the env_cubemap thingy being really reflective. (I assume you have built the cubemaps?) I had this issue myself with several custom textures and prop_models in dark areas. Never did find out how to fix it other than alter the materials .vmt file.

Hm, just realised that buildcubemaps doesn't do anything when there's no env_cubemaps in the map! xP When I placed some env_cubemaps and then built cubemaps it worked. All these effects are confusing to an old Goldsource mapper!
