Looking for a very in-depth video review and playthrough of your latest and greatest maps and mods?
As a mapper of many years, I know how frustrating it is to spend months on a project only to end up feeling that nobody has really played it and that it hasn't been noticed.
Too many mappers are demoralized by this situation, and I've decided to try to help rectify it.
Scotch and Coffee are now offering guaranteed video reviews of ANY map/mod for any Valve game posted in our 'Show off your stuff' forum.

Of course, we aren't going to spend our precious time for nothing - but all we require in return is that you are a member with at least 25 posts on our forums.

Think of it as a you scratch our back, we'll scratch yours situation. You get an in-depth and fair review and exposure to our subscribers and our community grows.

Note: We will not review every map you've ever made. Submitting them all constitutes spam.

Trapt, your words have opened my eyes. Of course I shouldn't try to expand our community by offering a genuinely useful service to up-and-coming mappers.
What was I thinking?

But then of course, the very post before yours, as well as Cstriker's and several more on other sites suggest that actually some people might give a shit.
Could it possibly be that Trapt's opinion isn't the same as everyone else's on the planet? Certainly such a revelation should be kept secret from Trapt himself as the blow to his ego might send him over the edge.
Ah, who am I kidding. He'd never believe it, anyway.

If you're not interested - just don't post, because I'm not interested in your opinion either. The thread isn't harming you in any way.
You're so obtuse it actually warrants research.

I'm surprised I haven't commented on this yet. I do like the idea. I have no idea how others see my maps, or how they play them, and a video review would be great to get the visual feedback I need.

You're being awfully whimsical with all these ambitious projects.

If you're going to commit to giving video reviews of our maps, why not finish off the video reviews of the MOTM instead? They would seem to deserve it more than some random guy asking for a thorough review.

You've also not updated your vlog for some time. If you're going to make some videos, why not update your vlog?

You've opened up a formspring account. Why are you using formspring when you answer emails in your vlog? Are you going to mention the questions people ask you on formspring in your vlog?

What is this Sims Virus thing? I'm sure it will be cool, but it's also yet another whimsical project that you seem to have come up with.

The results of the second competition weren't announced until two months later.

And what about your podcast?

There's just all these things that you're juggling, and nothing ever really gets done.
Both you and Urby have a tendency to do this.

why not finish off the video reviews of the MOTM instead?
I've done quite a few which haven't been published on TWHL, and I can't do more because our MotM hub is down. Daubster can't fix it until after his exams and to ask him otherwise would be completely unfair.
why not update your vlog?
Because I've been really busy at college, and with...
...this Sims Virus thing
No, it's not another whimsical project. It's a short film which is about 80% complete. It has actors and everything ;D
The results of the second competition weren't announced until two months later.
Yes, this won't happen again. There were a couple of reasons for this. One was that I had lost my job and actually had to do some fund-raising to afford Rimrook's prize.
Are you going to mention the questions people ask you on formspring in your vlog?
The formspring is more for personal reasons than SnC reasons. Mates on facebook use it, but I thought that I'd make it open for the SnC community too.
And what about your podcast?
Don't have an answer for this. Allan fucked us about and it really put me off.

I'm sorry, reviewing peoples' maps on request is a very noble action for you to take. However, coupling it with 'YOU MUST POST 25 TIMES ON MY AWESOME FORUM!111!' is just downright bullshit promotion of your site which you have already pimped far too many times on this site. As the post directly under mine said, anyone who cares is already on your website and the rest of us couldn't give a toss. Keep your promotion shit out of TWHL, advertising is largely frowned upon and against the rules in most forums out there, I'm surprised TWHL has put up with it for so long.

I know of more than a few people who agree entirely with me. To be honest I've already come to grips with the idea that not everyone agrees with me on everything, but hey I can't expect everyone to be as intelligent as someone as brilliant as myself. After you have berated each and every one of us with journals, forums topics and posts, steam personal messages, and god knows what else, perhaps it is time for YOU to realise that not everyone cares and most of us don't appreciate your blatant marketing on our beloved forums.

It's a "scratch our back and we'll scratch yours" situation. They don't do it for free, but the fact that you only need to have 25 posts on their forum is a very low cost for a mapper's delight.
You only need a walk in the park. Huntey already said:

I can honestly say I don't see how a video review by random unprofessional vloggers is in any way a boon to one's mapping 'career'. Especially when you're really using it as an opportunity to prove how witty you can be on YouTube. I'm sorry, that's just the way I see it.

A kind word or recommendation from someone who is widely recognised in the industry or modding community, maybe, just. In most cases I'd say the work would need to speak for itself, correct?

That being said, if people want it, let them have it. It's not my place to stop them. I just don't understand why it needs to be offered to us wedged tightly between more Scotch 'N Coffee adverts, it's becoming annoying and baring little difference to a spambot at this stage.

If it isn't clear yet, I hate vlogging. ;>

It's a good idea on Huntey's part, he gets added site traffic, and people get indepth, helpful reviews.

I personally haven't picked up the ammount of times he has advertised on TWHL, but that can be justified as I've only been a member, a year or two, and sometimes don't check the site for weeks due to.. life.

However, going by what Trapt says, what Huntey is doing is unacceptable.

But then again, its only 25 posts, a small number. If it were a free service, it would become exploited and everyone would spam.

To summarise my ramblings, Huntey gets away with this post, as it is a fair call, a 'win-win situation' as previously mentioned, however any other forms of advertising would be taking it 'too far' ie steam messaging.

My "subtle" suggestion was that even intelligent people have negative sides. Well, Trapt is a little too nervous and irritated as if Huntey touched his privacy or something.

Also yes, it's obvious that I support Huntey. I'm not a wealthy guy, so my cake for him will be supporting him.

You like him?... Anyways I think its a good idea but there would be way too many "crappy" maps to have to do it for. How about "if it gets five stars on the twhl website" and they post 25 times in your forums than you would do a video review for it. This makes a little more sense. Theres really no point in doing a video review for a shabby ugly map. If you feel you have time to do that many video reviews than by all means do it but imo there should be some motivation for the map to be good at all in the first place.
Edit:
I worked so hard on this map. It tooks months to build. I know it's a bit of an oldie, but it's so underrated, and I'd really appreciate a nice, positive review.
HAHAHA...

Anyways im working on a condition zero map right now that I would love to get a video review of when completed so I will definitely take you up on the deal. May take a while to finish thow.

Both potatis and Strider have valid points. Perhaps you should change the requirement to maps with an average rating of 4 or more in the TWHL vault?

I don't see how your website gets any advantage if it's just a bunch of TWHL members spamming pointless crap to rack up a post count of 25. All of TWHL is aware of your website already, as potatis said.

Additionally, your site doesn't seem to be related to maps and mods. In fact, as far as I'm aware, it doesn't seem to be related to anything besides you trying to be witty on youtube. Maybe it would make more sense to contribute to TWHL instead of spamming advertisements? We are a modding community, after all. I'd even be willing to let the videos be embedded somewhere on the site if they aren't full of advertisements.

Nah, you're right. But from my point of view, he's done a good thing for me at least. Gm_BeachPlay is kind of crap, I know, but it was the best to offer for a review from me. He pointed out some strong points that will help me make my maps better. Isn't that good? Aren't we trying to focus on making the novice mappers better? Motivate them for the best?

The problem with requiring a minimum rating in the TWHL vault is that not everyone releases their maps on TWHL, and people don't always flock to rate a map these days.

Well, actually, the entire point of this was so that mappers who maybe don't have the skill to get a MotM win or shining star ratings still get their work properly examined.
I don't see how a video review by random unprofessional vloggers is in any way a boon to one's mapping 'career'.
You've missed the point. Yes, there's the exposure to our subscribers aspect, but it's more about getting work fairly reviewed.
When I see a map I've made on a site I never submitted it to, with a range of screenshots (sometimes a video) and a full review I get this huge surge of... worthwhileness. So why not actually offer to do that for people?
However, going by what Trapt says, what Huntey is doing is unacceptable.
Going by what Trapt says, I'm the second coming of Hitler.
I fail to see how (what used to be) a weekly journal update and the odd shoutbox post to let people know about competitions is mass advertising.
you can still make and send the videos.
Have done several. They're still not on TWHL. I don't know what the new winners are, so no, I can't do more.

Ok well the "joke" soup posted for huntey to review is a prime example of what im getting at as a waste of time. How about this. You must have put quite a bit of effort into making the map good to get a video review. Otherwise you could probably make it better on your own without such a thorough examination. Its just common sense.

Becoming an e-celebrity is serious bussiness. If that wasn't the point of the thread then your thread is pointless.

As for the rest of the offer, I would like to point out a personal thought. I been here since 2004 and I was an annoying engrish speaking newbie back then, I probably made them dead angry sometimes or basicly made them laugh with my actions. But 2010 and wow, I'm still here posting with everyone older or newer than me. I never did spend years in a website. TWHL may look like a strange tribe from the outside. But the members of the community are helpful and respectful to anyone with much patience and rational thinking. And you are still charging them 25 posts and a registiration to draw more attention to your website. And you have been here since 2004 too. After all those years, I can not truly see the reason behind your action if it's not you having nothing towards the members in here. I know that you are good at reviews but I wouldn't change that for the mutual respect and friendship the community has. Your offer is not a fair call compared to what the community offered you for all these years. It's just "these guys should fall for it, so I can get more members for my website. And become someone important on the interwebs". Prove me wrong by telling what is really in it for you? What is wrong with doing it in TWHL? They all probably have more than 25 posts, hell even the new members probably have over 100. Why can not we see your noble action here?

I'm sorry if the post was too dramatic. I guess, I'm the sensitive idiot here. Or maybe I'm just a low life repulsive bastard.
