The instruction at "0x11c4a69f" referenced memory at "0x18e3b018". The memory could not be "read".

Why does my game say this every time I try to play Ep2?

I think I have already asked about your system but you never answered!

How much memory do you have and what kind of graphics card do you have?

Have you updated your video drivers?

Do you have enough paged_pool_memory? google it!

Have you simply tried restarting your computer? this helps alot of the time.

Well, from what I know he's playing Half-Life at VGA resolution. If that's because he can't run it higher, then his system definitely can't run the source engine.

I've played it before and beaten it, this suddenly came out of nowhere.

I don't know my graphics cards or video drivers or memory!

But I have restarted my PC.

5. Make sure your PC if free from viruses.

If you don't know how to perform these steps, get someone to do them for you.

I've had this error before. I believe it happened when my RAM was getting worn out, so I had them changed. That solved the problem

I actually had the problem too when I only had 1 GB( now I have 4). It usually started to show some red error messages in a corner of the screen and the fps dropped a bit. After some time it exited the game in this manner.

Some of the minor problems go away when you add a little more room to the paged_pool_memory. I am not saying this is the problem; I am just saying it's worth a try. If he says he has run it before it can only be a couple of things.

Follow Atoms suggestions AND change your paged_pool_memory and you problems "could" be solved. If you are running source then I suggest you buy the best possible graphics card you can afford. This goes for memory as well.

I think the difference between win7's search box, and XP's "Run" might trip him up.

Edit: Well nevermind then.

Edit Edit: Whoa, is there something seriously wrong with the memory there?

2048 MB Ram is bad?

Approx total memory is the onboard RAM on the video card, not the computer's main RAM, ATDestroy.

So while there's nothing "seriously wrong" with that, it is a pretty slow video card. That might be the problem if the game is having to call upon all 2gb of his RAM to compensate for the lack of RAM on the video card. I'm not sure enough of how these things work to say definitively.

A FX 5200 is low end, but not low end enough that it can't run source on lowest settings. Don't tell me you've never owned a single 'FX' card.

I had an FX 5500 256mb like 5 years ago :/
It barely ran HL2, so I doubt it could run ep2.

edit:
I think that was probably my last AGP component ever, too. aww :)

editedit: Dimbark's card is 8 years old. It's fair to assume that it's part of the problem.

Did you try turning the settings down or were you one of those people that just assumed it could run max settings at highest resolution with highest aa? Because when I first started with computers i had a shit geforce TWO. And it ran half life 2 fine. I also had a Geforce FX 5500 later on, and it ran portal fine on lowest settings. I think it's safe to assume it was just on your end.

Although recorded by a shitty camera and ultra slow gameplay, this is a somewhat good example of the card
(Just keep in mind if he lowered the settings even more and resolution it would run better, but people nowadays don't even care about framerate.)

How come I was able to play it and beat it before? Also, I can run any other game fine.

Yeah, the card is a bit old but the 256 on the card definitely makes the game start pulling on other resources to compensate. The paged_pool_memory may help in this situation but I couldn't say for sure.

Pretty sure that's where it's coming from...

You could try putting all your game settings to low and try a lower resolution. This might help a little.

Hmmm...there is a reset but I can't remember what the heck you do....

Ok, I looked it up and this may or may not work because it didn't for my DOD.

If you are running steam and I hope you are....go to your launch options on Half Life 1 and type in -autoconfig and this is supposed to reset to 800x600.

Maybe someone else can chime in and give you more info on this cause I would like to know too. Like I said it didn't work for my DOD and I would like to play it.
