If you're going to post images that size either resize them so they're not over 2MB each, or use thumbnails to link to them.

The first test.. it's a little messy and it screws with your eyes a bit.
User posted image
Tree! The 3D effect is a little less apparent because of how far from the cameras the tree was, but it's still pretty visible near the base.
User posted image
I was struggling to find some places in my house with a lot of regularly-spaced 3D elements. The counter did a pretty decent job; I like the champagne glass especially...
User posted image
... and flowers do an even finer job!

Taking these shots in such a way that your eyes don't want to roll out of their sockets is a little tricky. The first shot has the point of convergence for the two cameras relatively close; it makes looking at the edges of the photograph a little nauseating. The last three have the cameras' orientations nearly parallel, and I think it works quite a bit better. It's a shame that red-cyan anaglyph 3D glasses screw with color as much as they do. We'd probably see a lot more of this kind of work, otherwise.

Aww but I haven't had cyan-red 3D goggles in like two decades...

I'm finding it hard enough to look at them without 3d glasses.

Crollo, don't worry. It's even harder to look at them with the 3D glasses on.
Anyway, I looked at them with 3D glasses and the tree one doesn't seem to have a good 3D effect indeed.

I like that last one. Did you use a filter or something, or is it just as out of camera?

Last week I finally got me one of these:

I haven't used it much yet, but the f/1.8 part is amazing. Shooting in such low light and with such a short DOF can make some great photos.

Will post some new photos soon. Must... eh... develop them first. Yeah.

DiscoStu, I also just got a 50mm f/1.8 Nikon lens recently :D The first two pictures in my last post were taken with it. Like you said, those lenses are pretty nice.

For the beach photo there I adjusted the exposure a bit in Lightroom, and used Exposure to get a Velvia-type look. I'm quite happy with it, overall. Here's another one from that day:

Has anyone here tried shooting the moon and then afterwards increase the fill light to 100% (if you shoot RAW that is)? The results are quite exquisite.

That's a neat idea, I've never tried it. What lens are you using? Looks like a 400mm at least. Can I borrow it? :P

@Caboose: That, my friend, is San Carlos de Bariloche, somewhere in southern Argentina and near Chile. I'd totally live there (I'm saving up to make me a castle in those gorgeous mountains). You can't miss it, people come from everywhere (I've met tourists from the US, Australia, Brazil, England, Germany, Israel) Also there are exquisite chocolate factories, it's like going to Switzerland and finding everyone speaks Spanish instead of German :P

Perhaps that's the reason I haven't seen any Swiss :P

I think TWHL should allow 3-4 images per line, to save us some vertical scrolling...

Awesome, DiscoStu. :)

Boomer: Interestingly enough, about a month ago I was with a friend taking shots of the Moon with his telephoto, and when fiddling with them later on in Lightroom we noticed the same exact thing you mentioned. :D

Looks like he must've screwed around a bit with the colors in that photo as well... we were fairly stoned at the time.

Thanks guys :) Any favourites?

Those two are so grainy! Did you do that on purpose? I can't do that until I hit ISO 3200 or so :P
Posted 13 years ago2011-01-27 19:58:48 UTC Post #289709
First was shot at a high ISO and was originally underexposed out of the camera anyway. The grain in the second photo is intentional.

Ooh the wonders of macro photography. Sometimes I wish I had a macro lens.

Anyone willing to fork out $400 to get me a Canon EF-S 60mm macro as a bday present? :D

Man, you guys have been kicking ass in this thread.

I wish there were landscapes around my way as nice as what I'm seeing here.

Ditto. Have you got any cheapy macro/close-up filters, though? I got a 4-pack (+1, +2, +4 and +10) and you can stack them up, highest first, to enhance the effect. They do a pretty decent job, all things considered.

Haven't thought of that actually. I suppose they're but a fraction of the cost of a whole lens, but it never occurred to me to try that first.
Posted 13 years ago2011-01-28 06:48:50 UTC Post #289730
You can always use focus stacking when taking macro photos, if you don't have a proper lens that is.

@Saribous: That only works if you have a lens that focuses close enough.
